Carrying on in the usual vein of taking titles and lyrics from hit records and turning them into subjects, today I'd like to talk to you all about dreams. Last night I dreamt that I was at 10,000ft in one of my dining room chairs flying. On my feet I wore loose carpet slippers. I had to find a location somewhere in Europe and drop of these slippers to a mafia organisation who were going to kill me if they weren't delivered. I couldn't figure out where I was perched on the chair and the slippers were precarious to say the least and about to drop off my feet down to the earth below. The controls of my flying chair were the knobs from my electric oven and I could go back and forth in the air by operating them.
Are there any dream analysts here on UMD or should I call for professional psychiatric help?! Incidentally I don't think I have ever had a dream about my fetish, which seems odd. it is always just very weird stuff like this. Am I alone or do others enjoy a delicious romp with their favourite UMD artist when they drift off into the arms of Morpheus? If so you are very lucky people indeed!
So, no takers? Can anyone point me in the right direction of someone who can interpret dreams and what they are trying to tell me. As from the description above they are getting increasingly strange and unfathomable. Should I just shake them off as brain maintenance or do they have some hidden message? I did read once that your brain likes to organise memories and thoughts in certain areas of the brain. A bit like a computer copying files to different folders on a hard disk. Apparently your dreams are just the mind shifting around your memories and thoughts and having absolutely no means at all! If this is the case why never any messy? It occupies most of my thoughts when awake!
My advise would be not to attribute too much "meaning" to dreams, in my opinion it could be a rabbit hole.
If these dreams cause you to not get sufficient and good sleep i would first try the textbook things like no coffee and screens in the evening, do something relaxing before you go to bed and exercise to get physically tired. Sleep meditation to clear and calm the mind is also a recommendation.
Personaly i would try to stay away from sleeping pills, unless prescribed by a physician for medical reasons.
Thank you for all the suggestions. I think staying up too late and too much screen time might be the cause. I will try and get more relaxed before drifting off. I must admit I do have many dreams where I am utterly lost and can't find my way back to where I started. I am not the most secure of people and I think my nighttime life asleep might be a refection of my daytime one.
I use it sometimes. Don't need to listen to the end, usually abt 10 minutes is enough for me. It helps to calm the mind, focus on your body and breathing and relax.
Dreams can be a complicated subject. It feels like there is difference between the sort of day dreams that you're able to control before you drift off to sleep, and those that you feel you have no control over. It's easier to dictate the former, as you're kind of narrating them, but the latter can be unsettling and generally much harder to remember come the morning. I have had the former type that has turned into the latter.
The fact that you can remember vivid details is interesting, but I know absolutely nothing about the subject other than my own experience.
The problem with dreaming about your fetish, is that you get excited and need to do something about that before you can go to sleep!
