After over a month of silence and no posts at all this Group is going the way of the dinosaurs and could do with some activity again....so here is my comment....do you know that we are about to lose all trace of vintage wetlook photos, slides and magazine clippings.
FYI the earliest known purposely made wetlook media started in the 1940s with Craig and his wife being the first known married couple wetlook fans who made photos and cine films. Both of them passed away but they passed their collection to the original "Wetfan" poster TG from Florida who created the great Wetlook Newsletter in the early 1990s. Wetfan had his great collection of photos and clippings from the 1940s, 50s and 60s. Roger Carpenter of Aquantics also had a huge collection of magazine clippings. wetlook photosets, slides and articles stored in his attic.
Wetfan and Roger worked with a guy in Canada to create the site Vintagewet.com and they restored hundreds of their old photos and clippings and were the 2 largest contributors to the site which was originally hosted by Graham on his Styx server. The site was up and running in the early 2000s until the webmaster disappeared and was presumed to have died. Then the site hosting was passed to David Wilkey and David and Roger maintain the vintagewet archives. Sadly we since lost Roger and David who have both passed away.
The only remnants of these archives can be found on the Internet Archive Wayback machine from 2002, however many of the links and pics were not saved by the Wayback machine.....so this is all we have ...
I managed to save around 20% of the pics that were on this site 20 years ago....so I have around 100 vintage pics from the 40s-60s, like this sample attached from the 1940s of Craig's wife......
The good news is that Mike from WSM Production has undertaken a project to restore all of Roger and David's Aquantics and Artscene videos from the 80s and 90s, and I am available to lend a hand if he needs help upscaling these old videos to HD quality.
But we need a young pup to create a new site to host all this vintage media. The good news is the Original Wetfan is still with us and I chatted with him recenty. He is now in his 80s and both Mike and I are also getting up there in age and in our 70s. If somebody younger wants to set up a new Vintage Wetlook Archive, I can reupload the stuff I saved from the old site and perhaps Original Wetfan can reupload his collection again.
Hopefully someone will come forward and set up a hosting space, and then we can preserve the legacy of Craig, Roger and Wetfan.
