I know the silent film studios reused plots. As a kid the local stations ran a lot of Hal Roach slapstick films and I have a memory of the pie seller in the back of the theater getting hit with a pie, picking up her necklace and it leaves a reverse impression on her uniform. But in the version of "Shivering Shakespeace" that I have she isn't wearing a necklace at all.
I checked several versions on YouTube just now. All the same.
Is my memory totally wrong? Was that in another movie? Are there two versions?
My first hand memory does not go back as far as 1930. Gee...you must be older than William Shatner if you around to see films from the 1930s. All I say is that the Our Gang film series spanned 2 eras, the silent film era and the sound era. Today all the sound films exist, including this one, while many of the silent era Our Gang films are now lost, so perhaps you saw an earlier silent era version of this film that no longer exists today. This 1930 versioo is a sound era version.
I checked my version per the caps attached and I what I see are TWO pie sellers dressed like maids, and the one that gets pied is not wearing a necklace and is wearing a bow tie. The other pie seller is in a different uniform and she has a necklace, but there are no clear shots of her getting pied.
It would be impossible for the 2nd maid with the necklace to leave an impression on her uniform because she was wearing an open v neck style uniform and the necklace is against her bare neck, not against any uniform. Dorothy Coburn is the pie sale girl without the necklace who get pied.
There were 88 silent Our Gang films and 132 sound films. Most of the silent era films are now lost..
It is conceivable that you saw an earlier silent era version of this film, that aired before 1967, when there was a fire at the MGM Studios film vault that destroyed many of the silent era Our Gang films.
