One of my favourite vintage WAM events is a wrestling match in a ring filled with sticky black molasses. Feathers are added later to make things a bit more 'yukky'. A few matches were held and there are clips online. My favourite is this match since the male wrestlers are wearing chinstrap swimming caps to keep the gooey muck out of their hair like female mud wrestlers later in Hamburg in the 50's/60's. I like the 'bald androgen' look, ready for the molasses pool .
I've always fantasised about being one of those lucky guys. Imagine emerging from the changing rooms, clad in swim trunks and white cap, then jumping into a pool of sticky goo in front of a cheering audience, rolling around and getting coated in the sticky mess. I was lucky back in 2008 to realise this, albeit on a smaller scale when I wrestled another guy in a pool of treacle, both in rubber caps. I suppose its the nearest to actually having a time machine and going back to that match.
