I'm concerned. There are 168 members of UMD that have been here 24 years. I am one. Only 18 are still relatively active. Was I supposed to outgrow this?
Outgrow this? Probably not haha...another comparison could be my love for childish things like cartoons, I'm down with classic cartoons like Looney Tunes, Tom and Jerry, Nick Toons, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, etc...been watching all that since before I even knew about WAM, and still into them today. It's not really that unusual to like what you like and to continue doing so. The music I enjoyed when I was younger carried on too. It almost seems like Punk, and heavy ass core music shouldn't be for "older" people, but I loved the stuff then, and I love it now, and I don't foresee my taste in music ever changing.
I feel like I've been here at least 20 years myself, maybe a little longer. This account is a newer one, I had one or two before this, and there were probably a couple years at the start where I didn't actually have an account, I just lurked the site. If other people who have been here long stop posting, or being active, it's probably because they weren't as into it as some others, family/life stuff came up, or maybe they're here in some other form and we just don't know it. Don't think you have any need to be concerned!
I've been coming here since 1998 (first accessed on the one computer in my secondary school with internet access - I can't even remember what I searched to discover it, though it was definitely on AltaVista !) but only decided to make a proper account 12 years ago so I maybe technically drag it to 19?
I'm 42 next week - safe to say now I'm never outgrowing this, and in fact in the last four years have embraced it more than ever!
I am another 'been around longer than my profile'. My guess is 25+ years. I don't remember the order of, but I remember the early days of MessyFun, Usenet groups (alt.sex.fetish.wet-and-messy and others).
I don't remember what my original UMD username was, but I lurked for a few, then created an account. The deleted it after 4-5 years. I was gone for about a year, but couldn't forget what I was missing out on. Lurked again, and then created this account.
16 years here, if anything my love for WAM has got stronger and stronger. I do miss the amateur content and "golden age" of UMD when PieGirlKay, Phoebe, Uncle H, Mrs Bee, Clown Julie and Messygirl, et al were regularly posting content great amateur material.
That being said it's nice to still have Mrs Bee and Messygirl still involved with things.
Even though my profile says I've been here 15 years, I've been here longer than that.
I was here under the moniker "Pie Guy" originally. When MM switched over to a new server, I couldn't get it to work. So I changed to this name.
I wouldn't be surprised if others had the same issue and have been here longer than their profile says.
I am one of these too. I have been on here since the beginning but also had to make a new account due to log in issues. My account says 15 and half years but it's should be since the beginning.
Yep, I'm another of those who's been here since the beginning, although my profile suggests otherwise
It's always good to reminisce about some of those early years and the producers (many of them amateur, as @MessyMatt1 points out) such as Phoebe, Rachel, Uncle H (and Melissa), Imogen, Brian Grove at Crazygirls, WAMTEC, Wamgirls, MaxandStar (in whose photo archive may still lurk my original username, written on a placard ) and many more...not to mention the pleasure of meeting some of my fellow UMDers for drinks and discussions and exchange of Splosh! copies
I'm not sure I thought I'd still be an active user on UMD all these years later...but hell, what did any of us know back then about how the internet would pervade and shape our future lives? After all, there was that professor who said the internet was nothing more than a passing fad, a la CB radio...

Yeah, I think I have been here since late 1998 or early 1999.
I remember when the "What's New" on the front page was a list of user-submitted web finds, and only occasionally featured producer updates - mainly because there only were about 12 producers world-wide and content was still mainly sold on VHS tapes or DVDs, the idea of using the Internet to distribute content was still in its infancy. A photoset from Messy Fun cost $25, for which you got 25 print photos sent through the mail. High Resolution meant you had a 1024 x 768 monitor, rather than the standard 640 x 480, and attempting to download a WAM video, even if one was available, was liable to take several days at dial-up speed. Downloading a single photo could take upwards of 40 minutes.
There was no Google, nor PayPal, eBay was in its infancy, social networking didn't exist, and there were no download stores.
It's actually quite spectacular just how much the world has changed in the time UMD has been here. Can any of us imagine what things will be like when it's time for the 50th anniversary party, in 2048?

same. ive actually been here a year and some change longer than what it says. I was "outed" in my hometown and shut down my page for like, a day. Then I decided very quickly "fuck that, my family knows, my GOOD friends know....why do I give a FUCK if a bunch of strangers know??" they were attacking me as a parent...like "how could a mother do this?!" this was when there was this site called "topix" for every town. and you could post ANYTHING about ANYONE. It was literally a "site to slander under fake names" no shit. I kid you not. Kentucky, right?
anyway....the answer to that question. "how could a mother do this" ummmm lets seee......." VERY FUCKING WELL!!!" HA! FUCK EM! SO, I put my page back up a day or so later and gave them the ol' FUCK YEWWWW. got on there and put the links up to WHERE THEY COULD PURCHASE MY SHIT!
AS THE GREAT DAVE CHAPPELLE SAID "BECAUSE FUCK EM! THAT'S WHY!" HAHAH POP COPY!
ANYHOOOOOO BACK ON TOPIC.
IDK why yours is showing the wrong timeline as mine has usually stayed pretty accurate. there are so many of us on here....just a glitch i presume. I bet if you tell mm there is probably a way to restart your clock and put how long you have been here...
but hell no it aint too long! yeeeeeet! i love it!
I lurked from the beginning, joined fairly early on though after folks couldn't work out a way of putting gunge in a balloon.
I doubt you can "out grow" a kink as they tend to be hard-wired into us. I did leave for about 2 years as it didn't do anything for me, popped back on out of interest and never left.
I don't know what my membership shows, but I have been here since the beginning. I remember when it was less forum and more a directory of different WAM sites. Anyone remember Piemagination? I would say, other than Google, I have visited UMD more than any other site over the last 20+ years. Didn't really start posting until recently.

I was a lurker YEARS before I made a profile, so I have been here longer than what it says for me. As for 'outgrowing this' I must say that I disagree. In my opinion, you like/love what you like/love and no one should tell you otherwise.
Another 20+ years member who had to re register under current username. There seems a significant number in that category which is testimony to the continued appeal of the site and our love of all things UMD.
I don't think so. If you like WAM, then you like WAM. And probably, for the vast majority of us, you always will. I am one of those 168 you talk about. A friend of mine put my onto Splosh magazine back in the early 90s. From them, I learned about Rob Blaine and Messyfun.com. From them, I learned about Leah and messygirl.com. Somewhere along the line, I heard about UMD. So I joined in 1998. And after a few months, promptly forgot all about it. LOL. Until a little less than a year ago, when I wanted to buy a video from mostwam.tv. But they do their selling through the UMD store. So here I am now. And I am happy that I rewoke. I have made some truly wonderful friends here, and had my eyes opened in so many ways I can't even count them.

In the words of the great Canadian scholar Red Green "You can't stay young, but you can at least stay immature!".
Last weekend, I trekked out to a hardcore metal festival. I'm 45 and the crowd seemed to skew younger, at least judging by all the young girls wearing bullet belts and fishnet stockings. I am not going to let my age dictate the kind of fun I'm allowed to have! Tomorrow night is a punk rock party!
been coming here since 2000 when i happened upon the site while searching "ripping satin blouses" or something like that. i discovered i wasn't alone in what i liked and UMD got me through the last 20 years. (no joke!)
i decided to finally make a profile and i am so appreciative to those who have become friends as well as the creators who have soaked and destroyed tens of thousands of dollars of clothing and shoes over the last two decades for my (and everyone elses) enjoyment.
i don't think anyone should outgrow anything that they love and enjoy
I wonder how many of the original 168 members were ever "active" in the first place? Did some come here simply to look and enjoy? I don't know about outgrowing it, but I've never found these things more inspiring than I do now. I've posted 50 stories here and "loved" countless numbers of pictures, posts and coments. I've messaged and chatted for hours, with some friends whose friendship has lasted for yesrs. Thanks, Messmaster and thanks UMD. Peter
I've been lurking a lot longer than I've had an account...I think it was a Mostwam offer for members that decided me to start an account, forget now.
I too fall into the category of someone who discovered this place around 2000 on a secondary school computer...which had a useless net nanny...it blocked any of my friends wanting to go to university in Sussex, Wessex or Essex (notice the theme there!!) but it let the UMD through.
It was the penny drop moment that I wasn't alone or as weird as I thought for finding gunge fun, I've never been into it in the sexual way many enjoy, but it's always been fun and I used to look forward to Noel's House Party every Saturday night! Finally I realised there were others into it too!
My profile says 12.5 years, but I had an account before that as Eknock, which you can see if you bought PieGirl Kay's 'A Pie for every Reply' on a sign she's holding. What a thrill that was!
