The message from 'Slaps' about the slapstick clown routines in the Ringling Bros. and Barnum & Bailey Circus reminded me of the circus TV shows that used to be broadcast in the UK over Xmas and New Year. Invariably there were clown routines, and these often involved messy slapstick. Very few examples seem to exist, but a programme broadcast a few years ago contained a number of brief clips including Charlie Cairoli, Jacko Fossett, and the Brizios. Start watching at 32:10
I love Cairoli. His slapstick was brilliant. He absolutely destroyed the men in his act with pies, and the bucket of cream over the head. Thanks for sharing.
A BIG thanks to Clown Ralph to bring up the UK side of the "Old Circus Days!! I remember when I first got on the internet, in the mid 1990's, most of my very first internet friends into clowns were sharing images of some of those same UK shows and Circuses (but... in very small size at the time) !!
So those thanks for posting those in full and colorfull size !! You deserve a few pies for that !!!
Hi i loved Charlie Cairoli in the BBc TV series in the 1970,s "Right Charlie" he really knew how to mess people up both men and quite a few women, great memories.
