What are some great messy scenes that didn't quite happen? One example is Marisa Tomei in 'Chaplin'. She played Mabel Normand, who may be the first woman ever to have been pied on screen, but that scene was not filmed in 'Chaplin'.

Another example is Madonna nearly getting gunged in 'Dick Tracey'.

Depending on your source - Adrienne Barbeau refusing to do the boggy scenes in "Swamp Thing" because of budgetary reasons or she was tired of working in a swamp. (Never would have made it with MPV)

One epic scene that did happen and was cut/lost forever was the swamp horror in "Tarzan Escapes." - Only a few photos survive.

Well the pie scenes from Spring Break 83 are pretty much lost. We have a few pics and a quick shot of Downtown Julie Brown taking a pie from the trailer but thats it. I guess you could also include the Olivia Munn pie stunt considering how messy people thought she was gonna get

This might intrigue anyone who watched "Mank," the recent David Fincher film (now on Netflix, pretty great!) that features Amanda Seyfried playing Marion Davies, the real-life starlet who was married to William Randolph Hearst, the inspiration for Orson Welles' classic "Citizen Kane."

In the 1928 silent movie "Show People," Davies was scripted to take a pie in the face after being tricked into appearing in a slapstick comedy film. But Hearst objected, fearing for her "dignity." The script was rewritten, and in the finished movie, the lead actor takes the pie instead, while Davies gets sprayed with a seltzer bottle.

To the best of my knowledge, Davies never did get pied on camera despite her work in numerous silent films... undoubtably due to her husband's interference.

The Lea Thompson scene where she is holding a pie and took it (of course) off camera. Would've been great.

Silver medal to Norma Randall (or Randolph?) who got pied in a stooges film by a guy in a gorilla suit which connected mainly on her chin and below.

Bronze to Ginger, Tina Louise, who was threatened with a pie by Gilligan, only to have Mr Howell step between them at the last moment, taking the brunt of it.

I didn't know about the Julie Brown pieing. Just checked it out on youtube. Not too bad.

Was it Caroline in the City where someone smears a whipped cream pie on a window?

And the scene in the 1993 "Beverly Hillbillies" film where she's thrown into a wedding cake...backwards.

According to what I've read, they had to be careful even shooting the scene where Davies got the seltzer sprayed in her face, because they feared even that might be beyond the pale for him. The filmmakers came up with some phony reason to ensure that Hearst was not on set at the time they shot that scene.

Interfering husbands/boyfriends sound like just the worst.

There are also stills available from the movie that show the hot young redheaded actress Aviva Farber taking what looks like a very good pie to the kisser while wearing a skimpy leopard-skin bikini. (She's a very minor Hollywood actress, best known from a brief appearance at the end of Superbad where she hooks up with "McLovin"; she has since married and become Aviva Baumann.)

In Extras, there is a scene in which Clive Owen suggests throwing mud in the face of Ashley Jensen's extra character, and he goes into detail about how grotesque and sticky it should get. But she quits the set before it goes anywhere.

A real missed opportunity, in my opinion: the gorgeous French actress Juliette Bincohe was originally scheduled to play the female lead in the movie Lulu on the Bridge, a role that involves taking a pie while dressed as a flapper. After agreeing to do the low-budget film, but before shooting started, Binoche won an Oscar for Best Supporting Actress for her role in The English Patient. At that point, she dropped out of the Lulu production. I've read commentary from Lulu's writer/director, Paul Aster, where he expresses no bitterness at all toward Binoche for this; he says it's common practice in the industry when an actor gets a huge award like that, that they are sort of given a "get out of jail free card" on any projects they committed to pre-award.

In any event, the very cute American actress Mira Sorvino was then contracted to take what had been Binoche's role... and of course, also to take what would've been Binoche's pie in the face. It is a great little scene, and I'm happy to have it. But it would've been even better if Binoche's classic features were on the receiving end of that pie!*

*By the way, that's ex-Talking Head David Byrne sitting across the table from Sorvino and laughing when she gets pied. He has no lines and is only in the film for those few seconds. In another of the clips from Lulu's highlight reel shown shortly after the pie clip, Lou Reed appears in a small role with several speaking lines. They make a joke of this within the movie as Harvey Keitel, watching the clips, identifies it as Lou Reed and Mira tells him that it just looks like him, it's not really him. In the credits, Lou Reed is identified as playing the character "Not Lou Reed." Reed had also contributed music to Aster's film Smoke and appeared as an actor of sorts in Aster's film Blue in the Face, the one he made right before Lulu.

I have no doubt about Hearst. I'm sure it reflected badly on him!

That "Lindsay Scene Grind" clip makes me so angry...

In the "Seinfeld" episode "The Voice," Kramer drops a rubber ball full of oil out of an office window, inadvertently splattering Jerry's girl-of-the-week (Sarah Rose Peterson), who's standing on the sidewalk below. Unfortunately, it happens offscreen, and we only see George's and Jerry's reactions.

Haha, yes it had all the right elements, hot girl and you can tell a heavy full pie.

I've never seen/heard of that movie or that clip before right now and so I'm thinking two things:

1. That is the biggest letdown in the history of letdowns...
2. That's one of the stoner dudes from Super Troopers!

The Farrelly brothers "The Three Stooges" movie had Sofia Vergara playing a villain. I thought surely there would be a pie fight breaking out in that movie at some point, and that Sophia would be taking some awesome strikes. Alas, nothing. Big missed opportunity, there.

Some great examples here guys! One of the biggest letdowns was one that was just posted last week. Olivia Munn is presented with a cart FULL of pies and told to get her face in there. And then........... nothing.

Although it appears to have been lost to history, she did get pied really well on another show. I don't think I can mention its name, but it would show for a few minutes at a time between commercial breaks for a specific network.

Olivia Munn never being pied in the face, spring break 83, Mark summers female co host never being pied, the three stooges movie having no pie fight, and I think "Friends" could have had a tit for tat pie fight somewhere in there. Monica was a chef who loved to bake and they had silliness sprinkled into the show, especially in the first seasons.

The one that always comes to mind is an escape from UK Big Brother where the super hot Imogen was sat on a toilet for a game and gets wind of a gunging about to happen to runs out the way before loads of green gunge comes pouring from the ceiling.

I'm sure Bill Shipton once said Geri Halliwell had applied to model for splosh before her career with the spice girls started. Gutted.

Now that's a thought Similarly, two shows that I'm surprised never had a messy scene are Modern Family and Buffy the Vampire Slayer.

I'm a Celebrity Get Me Out of Here has had several instances where scenes fell flat because of either the set-up, bad consistency of slime or both! I can think of a couple of moments in particular that I got excited for but was disappointed.

On a personal level, the fact this pie didn't end up in Rachel Cook's face (see gif). She's a stunning model and it feels frustratingly close.

My imagination also gets a bit carried away seeing Hayden Panettiere carrying a giant tub of Nutella...I can't help it

The slapstick killers from a long time ago never being finished. You'd think a group of Canadians would be able to get it done but noooooo.

There were actually a couple of messy scenes on Buffy the Vampire Slayer. Buffy gets slimed by a monster in one (I think it's supposed to be its blood) and in one episode there are a couple of scenes where she puts mud on her face (it's similar to a mud facial but a bit messier than that).

I thought there was at least one in Modern Family too but I might be getting confused with another similar comedy series.
