Crackerjack definitely finalised my childhood gunge fetish, after it's awakening thanks to Tiswas. I remember my CJ interest began with the simple game when contestants would take magnetic letters off a board , and be given a question associated with it. Incorrect answers led to forefeits , often involving removing an item from a tray of goo with their teeth. But then later series provided the first introduction of gunge tanks to British TV. Showbiz personalities and sports people were invited to take a chance at answering a question. Failing to do so led to some epic gungings. And the impish Stu, always got it
Patsy Pastry said: I'm old enough to remember before Stu Francis where the pies and gunge were shared around. You don't see many videos or photos though.
Yes. I seem to remember there were more stand alone sketches with people like Peter Glaze and guests - a role later taken on by The Krankies.
One of my earliest WAM memories was when Stu and (I think) captain of a football team- maybe Spurs? Got pied in the face repeatedly by the whole team. It was amazing. They were all wearing shiny tracksuits too.
I have spent hours trying to find it lol its probably from 1981/1982?
There are a few clips of other CJ mess on youtube but not much.
Crackerjack and 'Take a chance' I think are responsible for my gunge fetish. Double and even sometimes tripple gungetanks, answering a question and getting gunged if you got it wrong. Hot blokes in 80s sportskit too
