The whole "real vs. shaving cream" debate has kinda died down recently, but I thought about one of the main criticisms of Cool Whip--namely, "it just doesn't stick as well"--as I was screen grabbing for an upcoming volume.

Full caveat: Not EVERY real pie covers amazingly well. And yes, a lot of factors (temperature, amount of time Cool Whip was left out, even brand) will affect the pie. But some days, the pies are flyin' perfectly. And so at the risk of tooting my own horn.... This was one of those days.
First pic is a closeup of a butterscotch/whipped cream mix. Second pic is post-hit shots from three pies in a row: that same butterscotch, a banana cream, and just an ordinary whip-cream-in-baked-crust number.

Again, from an aesthetic standpoint, I love it when hits are all so different, but still perfect. I WISH I could duplicate these results every single time. Sadly, not always the case. Enjoy!

Bear in mind that the best, always requires a lot of effort... but always it is worth it!!

It really is the temperature when it comes to cool whip. If it's too cold it won't stick to anything.
If it's too warm, it gets runny.

But, and I can't believe I'm saying this, there might be an alternative recipe for shaving cream to make it look like pie filling and be the best of both creamy worlds.

Rich, your stuff looks good so I wouldn't change a thing, but I have been doing a little mad scientist stuff on weekends. If the results turn out good, I may use them the next time that Jayce woman wants to shoot.

Short related story: I had an online conference going on for business that was boring as could be so I started assembling various "pie hits" based on texture not from produced videos but from TV and movies. However, I forgot to turn the sound down so in the background they heard a few "splats" before I realized what was going on.

I have always held that real (i.e., edible) pies are the best -- if made properly for hit/post hit visual effect (different pies should be using for pushing [thicker] verses throwing [looser/more liquidy]). But to be fair...some folks use real pudding filling top with shaving cream (in a crust/pie shell)...and those look pretty darned good (despite the occasional last-second realization by the model that there's SC in the pie -- as she is about to eat some!).

Yeah, see as Rich will tell you, my "complaint" about shaving cream is that shaving cream NORMALLY goes where? Yep on the face. I also hate how big of a shaving cream "cloud" forms around the head because it rarely "drips".

But as I said. Dr. Pienstein here is working on a solution to solve the problem and make everyone happy.....EXCEPT shaving cream fans of course.

i know how i have gotten cool whip to stick much better but it requires another additional mix to it....and it doesnt "fly" as well BUT, you can put the dollops of it around the pie for flying....and mix the cool whip, even cold, with this stuff and it sticks. kinda rocks. but yeah if its too cold and not stirred around, it doesnt always do awesome. sometimes it does and thats always fun! if its absolutely the perfect temp it will stick and fly!! but, that is like, an act of god.

but i have made pies that stick so damn well and drip and rock so hard and people dont buy them. so? eh. i dont know but i have a fucking good time when they are awesome! i love watching it

Edible pies are my preferred weapon of choice. Rich and Rob do such excellent work, especially with cool whip/whipped cream pies with filling. It's always a beautiful sight to behold when these types of pies stick and splatter perfectly.

Can I just say, that I absolutely love reading the likes of Rich, Robby, and Jayce still perfecting their craft after years of doing WAM. As for the original post, Rich, with pies like that you can pie The Wife any day of the week, lol. She would thank you since I really only use shaving cream; because there's no temperature prep and I gotta cut costs somewhere!

I absolutely agree about the fact that after some SC hits, it appears a kind of fluffy cloud around the head of the model... it seems pretty unreal, isn't it?

It's a neverending topic, indeed...

I don't care if SC is used as a slime, because slime doesn't exist in our daily live... but pies, they do exist!! And are not SC alike at all... and less after a hit...

Edible products not affected bu temperature and always look great are:

1) Marshmallow fluff (amazing outcome!!)

2) Walking the plank pies. Easy, edible and very very cheap (the ones I use at home)

fluff can be too heavy sometimes. yes it sticks well but you have to layer it to perfection or you are just wasting something costly on pies.

This is honestly one of the saddest things I've ever read on the UMD. (Except the part about how more more episodes of the Jayce Lane Show are on the way, which is great news!)

I guess I am an exception to this rule, because I'm sure I've bought a good six dozen or so of your videos, Jayce, as well as at least 15-20 more from Ariel's store that star or co-star you, and almost all of them have been pie-based. Granted, I have a very strong bias for pies above all other forms of mess (hence my screen name and the endless pie-based photo albums in my gallery).

Anyway, of course I bought all those videos because I happen to agree with you: You have made a lot of GREAT pie videos over the years!!! What is wrong with pie fans here that they don't appreciate your stellar work in this field?!? I guess I should actually consider myself lucky that you have persisted with the pie videos despite your lack of good sales with them, because I really and truly think you have created many, many oh-so-creamy classics.

thank you i do know some pies are not the best......but when i have had the funds to really up the pie game? i have....and ive been like a chemist making them....and i swear they just dont sell. ? i made like 40 different types of pies, by hand, for the "patsys pies" bakery scene with ariel that even included pies filled with the mystery substance and topped with cool whip, blueberry pies, chocolate pies, whipped topping mixed with a special ingredient...and they rocked! sold like doo doo.

same with a scene with dixie we did a pie fight and it didnt sell well AT ALL. totally drippy pies (per request) fruit filling, chocolate, etc. and nada.

oh well. i had fun thye are fun to look back on. i almost knocked dixie over with one of those pies. i have sincerely knocked ariels block damn near OFF before. hahaha. hitting and throwing is the fun! after meeting robby and seeing his throwing skills, that shall be my next venture. thrown pies. i can fling them out of the tin, like a thrown pie, ariel and I kinda came up with that.....and it is SO MUCH FUN to see how far back you can stand, hold the sides and how well you can aim and fling it out of the tin! its brilliant!

I recall a SC fan once replying to my criticism that "a SC pie hit always looks the same' with' Yes! Exactly...' implying that the consistent effect/aftermath of shaving cream pies means a 'satisfying pie hit' every time (or nearly so)

As a fan of semi- randomness and variety in pie and wam tastes (some things I want consistent, other things I want variety)...I obviously prefer a real (edible) pie....the pie does nto have to be totally 'realistic' though, to work for me... like the Chegas Mais pies (made for pushing, not throwing)...gooey, 'smooshy' and edible.

Now, as for KW pies:

Perfect example of when it all comes together and goes right, Rich. I don't think people understand how difficult this really is...

We've (Bigshipper and I) been here for a VERY long time, no? 30+ years we've been wamming and this debate will NEVER die.

Here's why:

Sometimes shaving cream pies have rocked so hard that people thought they were real. Seriously - I have often laughed about this...

Sometimes real whipped cream pies have failed so BADLY that people were ready to hang me for the "betrayal" because they thought they were fake.

Sometimes real whipped cream pies were so awesome and flawless that we have no idea how we could have improved upon them. Same for real shaving cream. Same for Cool Whip, if they just happened to be at "the right temp and consistency". Which, fyi, is much more difficult to figure out than it sounds.

Sometimes everything in the universe seems to be lined up perfectly?? and the pies fly perfectly. Other times? THEY JUST WILL NOT STICK. Regardless of shaving cream or real whipped cream or whatever falls in between. Leading me to question whether it was something in my skin care or my make up that "repelled" the pie. I'm not even joking. I think certain makeup brands play nice for WAM and some don't. Maybe it's just my face? The angle of incidence? I don't know. But it's still fun. It still works out. Perhaps not as "perfectly" as we hoped...but still in the spirit of things. Shouldn't that count??

Personally, I LOVED IT (not really, actually) when people bitched at me for and against shaving cream when they were completely mistaken about which it was.

Several times, I've shot with with very expensive, "real" bakery pies and they were a complete failure due to the sheer weight of the pies. Yeah, they were real but so freaking what? when they are so heavy that they can't possibly stick for more than 5 seconds before slipping to the ground almost immediately. Not cool, esp when the cost is factored in.

Also? Is a Cool Whip pie even a "real" pie? Honestly am on on the fence with this personally, and so are fans, it seems. Cool Whip is Partially Hyrdrogenated Oil and High Fructose Corn Syrup. So, if you're a foodie like me and the Shipper? The answer to that is a resounding HAIL NAW. But for the fetish world, it has to be closer to a real pie than a fake pie, right?? But if the stars align, the results are spectacular.

It always amuses me how much control people think we actually have over a "mess" that we are making.

Seriously, I puffy heart everything that the very talented and way too humble Miss Jayce Lane said in her responses to this thread. One must absolutely be a chemist and physicist extraordinaire to get the pie thing "right".

In the end, everyone's a critic...so, whatever. To each her own.

I did buy large bakery pies last year. They do cost a lot, look really great, but someone has to throw them at you.

Self-pieings with those turn out ok but not great.

Over here in the UK, we can't get Cool Whip.

We tried everything to get the right type of pies.
In the old JustPied episodes, you can see all the various stuff we tried.

After years and years of searching and testing, we finally have a pie mix I'm happy with.

Of course, we still have the other issue, pie cases.

Graham Crackers are expensive and also hard to get here.
If we do get them they're usually already broken.

We don't really do much shaving foam pies, it's way too much effort getting the foam out of the cans.
It's also way too much effort getting the quantity of shaving foam we'd need.

I used to actually make my own whipped cream from heavy cream. They were some of the best pies because you could control the consistency so well by how much you did/didn't whip it with themixer. But, it's also all dairy, and it smelled after a while

The best addition to store bought whipped cream is a can of frosting. 1 can per large tub of whipped cream, put it back in the fridge for like 30 minutes.

Wow! Thanks for all the replies! Mrs. Bee, I still consider anything with Cool Whip a "real" pie, I don't use actual real whip cream anymore! Maybe mine are "in between" pies?

I tell ya, as much as some of the anti-cake contingent bitches, once a model gets caked, everything else seems to stick WAY better. I suppose it's like adding frosting to Cool Whip.... except you just apply directly to model's face instead.

The pies I use with my GF and myself are made out of sugar, soda drink and emulsifier... But it can go to my mouth harmless...

By the way Rich, preview pics are not working for this last video... I'm curious about the lingerie she is using!!
