I wanted to share one of my latest AI projects because it's based on something that had a huge influence on me growing up.
Back in the late 80s, one of the highlights of the week was watching the German music chart show Formel Eins. That's where I first saw the Beastie Boys' "Fight for Your Right" video, and it became one of those defining WAM moments for me. The whole setup--people arriving at a party looking great before everything descended into pie-filled chaos--just stuck with me. I must have watched that video dozens of times.
Like with so many films and music videos, I always wondered what might have ended up on the cutting-room floor. There are characters who only appear for a second or two, and I found myself imagining what other pie scenes might have been filmed but never made the final edit. I also remember secretly hoping that Formel Eins host Stefanie would somehow tie into the video with one of her witty transitions--but of course that never happened.
So that's exactly what I set out to create.
It's probably one of the most ambitious AI videos I've worked on so far. I tried to bring together everything I've learned over the past few years--better image quality, more convincing pie physics, improved character consistency, and storytelling that feels like it could have belonged to the original video.
If you'd like to see the finished result, it's available on my Patreon:
I'd love to hear if anyone else here remembers seeing the video on Formel Eins, or if there are other classic 80s or 90s WAM moments you've always wished had gone just a little further.
I love your "what if..." theme and tried it out with a pie fight scene from the TV show Charmed. The first pie hit was great, but what followed was disappointing. I am just starting with vids, and the app I used was limited to 10 seconds, but this might give an idea of the direction I was heading. I will be joining your Patreon site. I hope you will be open to suggestions for the "what if..." segment.
Love this, I did something similar with old tv show and movie scenes from my childhood that once fueled my overactive imagination. Helen Slater dressed in a men's shirt from Secret of My Success, for example. Would love to share some of it but I'm pretty sure it's against policy.
Definitely fun bringing some childhood fantasies to life, though. Did it with Helen Slater, Joyce Dewitt, Marilu Henner, the Wilson sisters from Heart, Kelly Lebrock, Neve Campbell, quite a few, come to think of it. Seedance 2.0 is phenomenal for cake batter slime physics.
