Heads up folks in Texas. This law from 2023 was challenged to the Supreme Court and the court ruled that requiring a government ID to access porn sites was not a 1st amendment issue. That Texas is completely within its rights to require this to protect the children. Now that the court has ruled for Texas in this, other states can enact similar laws. Get ready to be required to submit photo ID. I am curious how Texas law makers plan to enforce this ruling. What is preventing someone from Texas from firing up a VPN connection to Canada, then visit their porn site? The porn site would see them from Canada and not require verification.

The Texas attorney general office enforces the law by suing the porn company that violates it. They sued 3 companies. If I remember correctly, one company settled while Aylo and another case was held up by the FSC v. Texas case that the supreme court just decided on today. I might be misremember and have little knowledge of the lawsuits. So, I think the Texas law is enforced by the state attorney general's office and is probably limited to what ever budget and resources they assign to it. Some states have laws for private lawsuits, so it isn't enforced by the state but rather people in the state can sue. Disclaimer, I am an idiot when it comes to law and I barely understand this.

How does Texas know what sites are violating is the part I am missing. Do they just Google popular porn sites and then send out subpoena's? LOL
All good hehe. I made the post private originally and then changed it later to public.
Yeah, they pretty much just targeted the most popular porn sites: Aylo (pornhub network), Hammy Media (xhamster), and Multi Media, LLC (chaturbate).
I guess they only sued 3 companies so far because of the Free Speech Coalition lawsuit against Texas. Texas won, FSC appealed, they won again, FSC appealed to supreme court, and now they won again. Between then and now, there would be no point to add more lawsuits against porn companies if the porn companies would just win every case using an argument that it is violating free speech or it is unconstitutional.
Now that the supreme court ruled in favor of Texas law, who knows. Maybe we will see Texas sue a bunch more porn companies. It seems pretty easy for them to provide evidence and prove that the site is not requiring age verification. They have a template to follow. Maybe once we see them winning cases such as the Aylo one, we will see a huge influx of lawsuits from Texas or other states.
It is a wild guess who they will target next. I could say what I think they are going to target. It is pretty clear that they have an agenda or almost like some sort of 2025 project plan or something.
Yep. Texas. We'll die for your right to bring a rocket launcher to nursery school show & tell, but god help you if you miss your period while travelling out of state.
What is it like to live in Texas, Florida, or one of the States with these laws?
I know pornhub blocked to protest the law. Is that still going on? Are more sites blocking? Are sites now prompting you to verify your age? Has anyone verified their age to view porn? Or is every using a VPN? Would anyone verify their age?
For me, as someone living in democratic state, I haven't noticed any difference in the past 2 years since these laws were created.
