Tell you the truth, plot matters insofar as there are plots that turn me off. I prefer it when the models (women in my case) enjoy what they're doing, have fun with it, or at least don't mind it. If the scene is about "abduction", simulating bodily fluids, simulating rapey situations, I'm out. (I know that's not a universal opinion, fwiw.)
But past that, whatever makes it make the vaguest amount of sense, even if that's "hey here's a hot girl who is going to get messy for fun" is good enough, though there's some value in having a little novelty (whether that's delivery, substance/technique, or "plot".)
I like there to be a bit of a back-story that explains just why this willing wench is happily wearing a wedding dress into the mudbanks or having her swimsuit filled with custard, but generally just something that can be explained in the text description, or in a few lines in the intro, not something that needs five minutes to explain before the messing can start. if a scene does have that I'm liable to skip forward to where the action starts.
But I do like there to be some kind of backstory and that's how I shoot my own scenes.
The plot to me is only as important as the skill with which it was written. If you're just going to throw together a few lines of garbage dialogue with directionless models reading off cue cards then I'm going to consider it time wasted. But there have been legit videos where the setup was so compelling that I forgot to even expect a pie or sliming. Not saying I'm as locked in as if I'm watching a Coppola film, but I appreciate when a messing has meaning--so long as it makes sense.
Scenes with a plot can lead to erotic voice lines, the acting can be very sexy or cute, or unique actions being performed related to the plot. It could just be a few lines of dialogue. Sometimes it is nice to see something interesting like a costume, a theme or premise, and roleplaying. Sometimes it is hilarious when it is a cheesy line which the model is told to say followed by a pie to the face or getting slimed.
I don't think it needs to be a well written plot, a realistic scenario, or professional acting. I don't expect it to be a 5 stage plot.
However, I think scenes where the model acts natural and gets messy are the best, so it is not too important to have a plot. I would also be disappointed if the scene was like 15 minutes of plot and 5 minutes of getting messy. Just a few lines and a few minutes of plot followed by getting messy. There are some plots and scenarios which I have no interest in.
One of my favorite series was the Mud Puddle Visual's Addicted to Mud scenes. The plot is simple, a lady who has been muddy finds mud, cannot resist getting muddy, takes off her clothes to avoid ruining it, nude and muddy climax, a realization of what she did, cleaning off, and putting clothes back on. I especially liked Kendra James' performance in this. I like plots that explain why a model becomes nude too. But, I also just like all of the other MPV scenes where the model gets muddy without any reason or plot.
IF there is a plot, I think it matters more in the beginning of the scene than it does by the end of the scene. In the beginning it separates scenes from each other and can either set up punch lines or increase sexual tension up to the big release of the first mess. Then it usually continues on for a bit, but as the WAMee gets messier and messier, I don't mind if they just start to enjoy it and the scene goes into chaos.
I am also fine if a scene has no plot and is just mess for the sake of mess. The only thing with those to be careful of is making sure there is something unique from other scenes and models so it's not just the same thing over and over.

This is something I hadn't thought about, but is also kind of true. I prefer plots to be a vehicle for mess rather than the mess be secondary to a plot. Plus, some plots can just really kill the mood.
I like slapstick. I like some artifice. But poor execution is worse than nothing so I tend to gravitate to well-shot scenes with charismatic models and a lot of mess (an ultra-rare combination), and use my imagination for the rest.
I voted "a little" though the true answer may be "A LOT."
i think of the work of "casewam/babaslimes" - a particular scene where turing a small lever handle triggers a barrage of pies - and on a second or third attempt, a deluge of sludge from above at each lever pull.
That video had a surrealist logic to it, and that is very fascinating.
It has waned in the discourse - (good!?) - but there was a period of time where people in this community memed and decried "plastic chairs" with tarps and absolutely no set-up, or any logic.
I like to see scenes that are as blatantly planned as they are improvised. A reflection of the uncertainties in how any particular slops, creams, gunge, or goops might decide to splat.
It's a matter of preference. For me the best content will always be from people with actual wam fetish doing their thing, no plot necessary. But if there IS a plot, I prefer it to be simple and involve messy humiliation. The whole purpose of porn (for me) is to goon, plot should only exist if it enhances the goon, otherwise I'm better off spending my time elsewhere. But that's just me
For me, the thrill is in the context and build up. There are tons of videos of just two women giggling, tussling with no context offered and honestly, it's boring.
I enjoy building up on real perceived animosity and contention between two rivals. It creates a better atmosphere and makes the viewer become more invested into the match and its outcome. I have had fans literally write in telling me who they were rooting for and that honestly is what we want. None of that happens without a story for a viewer to identify with or connect to.
