Since it doesn't look like we'll be able to have another meetup for some time (can't really discretely chat about fetishes and our sex lives in a pub while socially distancing as we'd have to talk pretty loudly - and the majority of people travel in from quite far which I don't want to encourage) - how do we feel about doing an online version of Pies & Pints??? I'm trying not to start any more new projects...but I really miss hanging out with everyone and running meet ups!!
I made a virtual pub set for a Q&A livestream recently and it was super fun! We could do something similar - I have made a new free onlyfans account which I could use to host it which has a text chatroom for the audience similar to instagram live.
Alternatively I've set up a discord server (Discord is a chat app, similar to Slack but without the work focus), so we could have a voice channel there if people would rather be able to talk and hear everyone else's voices?
And then the other option of course is doing a proper video call on Zoom or Google Hangouts! Face to face video is always more natural but this brings up privacy concerns about screen recording etc (very unlikely ofc but you can never be too careful).
Would love to hear your ideas, suggestions and thoughts about what sort of platform would be best, if we should set some topics in advance, if you'd like me to invite along some special guests, etc - the great thing about this is that ANYONE worldwide would be able to join so if you've not come along to a Pies and Pints before due to distance, now's your chance!
I was thinking along similar lines recently but basically just going in the chatroom here on umd and then tweeting that I'm in there - your version sounds far more organised though I'm not personally bothered about video chat or voice chat but happy to go with whatever you fancy doing most and on whatever platform, whatever is decided
I would like a Zoom/skype thing. The bonus is that folks can not turn on their cameras and/or mics if they don't want to be seen, have social anxieties etc.
DJmeak organised one a few weeks ago which I went, we did it on Zoom if I remember correctly.
I was a little nervous at first but the good thing about Zoom is you can switch your camera off if you don't want to be seen. However I soon got passed it and put my camera on and had a great time chatting to like minded folks.
There was a combination of vanilla and WAM chat and everyone kept their clothes on and didn't get messy (I'm not sure that's a good thing though ).
So I'd defo be up for it and I would encourage anyone else to give it go. Please organise it Penny xx
