Sorry for reposting this but I can't seem to be able to reply to the original post. As this is now less than three weeks away I need to get a firm idea of numbers, particularly those staying for dinner.
If all those who are wanting or hoping to come could please post to this thread or the diary entry it would be much appreciated. The arrangements are reproduced below to save you having to refer back to the original thread.
I am pleased to announce that the second Newcastle meet will take place on Saturday 1st October from 2pm at the Mile Castle, Westgate Road, Newcastle upon Tyne NE1 5XU. For those wanting dinner afterwards there is a very nice tapas restaurant a short walk away which proved popular last time. Please let me know if you are staying for dinner so I can get an idea of numbers.
This is a vanilla social meet for everyone over 18 to chat, make friends and generally hang out in a relaxed atmosphere. If anyone is staying over into the Sunday I am quite happy to reprise my role as tour guide and show you around this great city.
For those coming by rail, walk straight out of the station and up Grainger Street to the junction with Westgate Road where the pub is situated. I will be on the top floor as this is best for seating. There is a lift at the back of the ground floor past the DJ booth for those who would prefer not to take the stairs.
Drivers are probably best parking in the long stay car park at the station. The main city centre car parks are in the shopping district north of the station where the entire road system has recently been rerouted, so even the locals are finding it difficult to get around and the council is raking in thousands in bus lane infringement tickets.
From the south come off the A1 at the Angel of the North and follow the A167 Gateshead (south) road. After crossing the Tyne Bridge come off at the first junction and take A186 first exit. Follow the road around and the car park entrance is directly between the Station Hotel and the station itself. From the north leave the A167(M) central motorway at the last junction before the Tyne Bridge and follow the instructions as before.
Jet setters flying into Newcastle Airport can take the 20 minute metro ride to the Central Station and follow the route from there.
There are many hotels in the city centre to suit all budgets, from youth hostels to travelodges to the more upmarket places.
Any further questions, don't hesitate to post or PM me and I hope to see as many of you there as possible.
Sadly its a bit far for us. I had thought about an Autumn Reading Splunch but there seems to be quite a few happening at the moment. Maybe in the Spring.
I will be along and I'm really looking forward to this; I missed the last one but I'm thankfully free to attend this one. Can I ask what time you're thinking of heading on for dinner? There may be two of us, myself and my young lady, but she could be along a little later than I.
Ooh, I should also ask... will you have a mascot or something on the table so I don't accidentally introduce myself to the meeting of the local bell ringers or whoever else might be meeting in the same place that day?

If people are staying for dinner, I would hope to book a table between 7 and 8 to allow those getting last buses or metros enough time to eat and het home.
As for the mascot, I will have my conductor's baton on the table so that we can be recognised.
Apologies for taking so long to reply about dinner, but needed to finalise the weekends plans around a couple of things.
I'll defo be staying for dinner as staying over now. I can't see me wanting to leave at 8:00 to get the last rail replacement bus service home, leaving all you drinking more beer Don't you just love it when they dig it all up .............

Still plenty time to get your name down if you want to come. If those who have not indicated whether they are staying for dinner or not could do so I would greatly appreciate it.

This event should be in the very front of the diary for anybody in the North as so little chance to get to one without a lot of time, effort and mone :p
I now have everyone's responses for dinner (thank you all for replying) and the table is booked at the restaurant for 7pm. Further drinks can be had at one of the many quayside bars afterwards if people are still thirsty.
One piece of logistical information. The metro station at Newcastle Central is closed all weekend. So anyone coming by metro will need to either get off at Monument and walk down or get off at Gateshead and get the Q1 bus back across the Tyne from stand A.
Speaking of which - Can anyone tell me what "Getting off at Gateshead" is a euphemism for? Answer tomorrow (unless someone else posts it first).
Yeh......this should be fun! Just wondering if Maria has got the paper plates and squirty cream packed in her case that "seemed" to just......... appear in Bristol
I just might possibly be nearby for an hour or two late afternoon / teatime (can't stay for food). Very much a "just possible" so no promises at all but would like to come along if it works out.
Well, short though my attendance was it was really fun. Thank you Wamadeus for running the event, it was lovely to meet everyone and I hope there will be another one soon, when I'll try and be a tad more talkative.
