This is no-doubt off-topic, but, since your thread made me think of this: is anyone here capable of sewing their own clothes, especially, for example, underwear?
I wish I was able to do that better than those poor workers in (name your favorite non-Western country).
Last time I tried sewing was in 7th grade home economics in public school in New Jersey. I had to sew a handbag. My threads went all over the place. I could NEVER figure out, NEVER understand how a sewing machine is supposed to work. TOPOLOGICALLY it seems IMPOSSIBLE to thread a needle through a piece of cloth and then BACK THE OTHER WAY, USING A MACHINE THAT WORKS ON ONLY ONE SIDE OF THE CLOTH. I finally just got my mom to sew the big blue handbag for me.
If I had my way, I'd walk around in a big black tarp/robe: just a big piece of heavy black cloth with a hole punched in the center of it for my head and 2 more for my arms.
But, I would STILL have the problem of making my own underwear. Sure, I COULD let my nutsack dangle around, beneath my robe, as long as nobody else would mind, since they would not be able to see it anyway.
I DO NOT like the feeling of being nude. And, I do NOT like the look of my body. But, if I had the power, I would have the entire world walk around in simply sacks, naked underneath but otherwise no nudity to the world, and put the entire world's garment industry to work doing more necessary and much better paying work.
Back in the day there were only a few producers, and presumably they sold enough to afford pricier clothes. But today with a saturated market (no pun intended) producers seem to be needing to cut costs, and that probably rules out the satin dresses and so on.
On the contrary, I think we're experiencing something of a flourishing renaissance in this area.
It always surprised me that it didn't interest everyone - but it's nonetheless a very large niche.
CharlotteMostwam, for example, updates with new clips and models almost every day. If that's not prolific, I don't know what is (and in Mostwam TV's new mud wrestling show I counted nearly 30 nicely dressed models sitting around the mud ring)
And even in my own little corner of WAM, the ambition for Mrs Trouso is in the direction of increased style and sass matched by increased pies and mess!

Clothes are so much cheaper and widely available than they ever used to be (for all those dubious reasons). The formal fans (I get the impression) are a little older. I wonder if that's why it's not such a thing with the younger set - because they weren't brought up with the idea of smart clothes being 'precious'. I say this because, you'll see content now where someone will be wearing Nikes or some such. This does nothing for me aesthetically, but perhaps, for those who like it, these are now the coveted, high value items you mustn't ruin...
I used to shoot wedding dress scenes, and while they've done OK they don't really seem to do any better than other clothes, and even from charity shops they are more expensive to source - the days of getting three hundred quid's worth of gown from Oxfam for a fiver are long-gone. I've also done formal bridesmaid's dresses, and the girls love doing stuff like that - they've said there's something genuinely magic about putting on a beautiful "dry clean only" dress knowing full well they're going end up sitting in a tray of custard in it - but to keep going, the sales have to cover the costs. The two big sellers in WAM seem to be officewear, and jeans, probably because between them that's what most of the buyers most regularly see the kind of women they'd like to see get wammed, wearing in real life.

That's what it is, I was never big on formal messes because instead of enjoying the scene my mind right away thinks "what a shame to ruin that nice suit or dress"
I love formal WAM, to me its the essence of it, destroying smart outfits. My ultimate scene would be a massive Great Race type pie fight at a wedding reception, involving about 10 girls, all glammed up in sexy formal suits totally letting themselves go and just trashing each other.
I have also always had a thing for secretaries and office girls too. I suspect a lot of these fetishes start when you are a teenager and anything which turns you on at that age tends to stay with you, my secretary fetish I trace to an advert for carpet tiles in the Radio Times in 1976, when I was 16. It featured a very beautiful brunette in a tight skirt, satin blouse and heels and I thought "Wow!"
Two years later I left school and started work, in an insurance office, and was surrounded by several sexy girls, dressed like this, and there we have it!!
Charlotte MostWam does office routines brilliantly, my favourites are the custom she did for me (natch!) and also Emilys Appraisal
On the subject of clothes, they don't have to be expensive, as long as they look smart. I found Primark a good source of clothes to trash as I used to buy outfits for my slapstick stooge, Sally, from there and we used to get through a lot of them! The fact that they were cheap meant that they were easy to rip off
I think I'm seeing about as much formal WAM advertised, but a lot more WAM as a whole coming out. So proportionally, there's less but the actual amount seems to be about the same. Not that I'm counting, mind.
