Any tips on getting from London Heathrow to Weston Super-Mare? It looks like the two options are National Express coach or using National Rail.

Question that might be helpful to others, so I'm posting it here: Since my flight gets in fairly early on Saturday, is there anything to do in WSM or Bristol you would recommend?

(Also, is anyone else mentally running through the scenario(s) of seeing someone you know at this event?)

Curious about the mud situation at Weston Super-Mare.

Is it safe? When you google "Weston Super-Mare mud" it links to a dozen articles of people getting trapped and rescued, and it seems to happen all the time.

I love the 1-star reports on Trip Advisor on how the place is too muddy.... that's 5-stars for us!!!

We do have a fair amount of mud. People only get stuck in it because they wade out, wanting to stay on their feet.
Wam fans typically want to roll around, so no danger of sinking.

The mud is on a public beach, with no wash off facilities, so it all depends on how " in your face" you want to be really...

Tfl rail from Heathrow to Paddington (cheaper than the express and not vastly slower) then her run direct trains to Weston - roughly 2 hours from memory. If you can book ahead it's usually cheaper. Weston station is pretty central for the town, but there's usually taxis. I've no experience of the coaches but I'd be surprised if you couldn't get one from Heathrow to Bristol and from there use the train to Weston.

Bristol is a lovely city for a wander around with the waterside and Clifton pleasant places to spend time. Weston has a lovely long promenade for a pleasant stroll, indeed if you've been a fan of the Moomins work for several years, you can go on a search for places they've shot scenes! (Trying to remember how many I've been to - just through wandering around!) Just walking along the prom will give you quite a few.

As for introductions, it can be strange as viewers, we know the models so it's easy to be overly familiar. I might go with "Hi, I'm Iain, you might remember me from such customs as...) although if I haven't done a custom with them, that one won't work!

I've been to a few splunches (in London/Bristol) along with the London Splosh Games, and that's never happened to me. Since you're travelling from another country, I think it's even less likely for you!

I have discovered a few mutual friends, eg when I met Fred at the Splosh event and he also knew my friend Bill from a Pride event (names redacted). However, that will depend on who you know. Eg some of my friends go to "Club Antichrist" in London, which has a fetish/BDSM theme, but mainly in the sense of wearing latex outfits. I went once, and it's not really my scene, but it makes sense that there would be some overlapping social circles.

If you do meet someone you know then that means that you both share the same interest, so my basic reaction would be "Wow, small world" rather than "Oh no, this person knows my secret, I can never leave the house again".

So it looks like the best things to do in WSM on Saturday is the Helicopter Museum (world's largest dedicated helicopter) or Penny! (insert clumsy pun about both making things go vertical...)

I've guesstimated that low tide should be late morning/noonish, so maybe someone could organise some beach mud volleyball?

Oh how I wish I could attend! I don't know which booth I'd want to be in first. The dunk tank, slime booth, pies....so many to choose from.

Since I will be arriving in Bristol around the time of day I might normally have breakfast, is there any place anyone would recommend? (Not recommend?)

If the weathers nice and your a meat eater, it would have to be Brunel Buttery. If the weathers not quite so nice, the mud dock or the Avon gorge hotel for the views

I'm staying for a few days as I've never been to Weston before, oddly enough haha so gunna spend a bit of time there and probs Bristol too. I'm arriving Friday and leaving Monday.

Is anybody else going to both the Saturday splunch and Sunday event and staying a few days?

I know Weston isn't as big as Vegas but is it worth setting up a group chat thing that was set up for the week there so everybody can be in touch if they want to be? They'll be at least a Sunday breakfast going on somewhere for people going to both the Sat and Sun.

Just a wee idea to make everybody feel part of the whole thing and party.

I'm over from Friday through to the Monday too, not entirely sure what I'll be doing all the time, but I suspect I'll make it to the pub on the Saturday.

I'll be arriving Saturday morning and be about later on Sunday too as I'm working in the area on Monday.

I suggest the Kik app if anyone has it, can add people by username so no need for phone numbers (WhatsApp) or giving away your Facebook profile .etc

I think the UMD group me still exists. Just no one has really been on since Vegas. Be careful when signing up for them as sometimes they are misleading. It asked for name (not your user) when signing up. A couple of us popped up with our actual names. Not a big deal for some people, but HUGE for others.
