What kind of videos just do not seem to sell, no matter what?

My worst selling ones are wetlook although even they aren't too awful really

I think wetlook is far better catered for with huge diversity of models and outfits and situations by the long time old producers like ee wetlook etc and the market is um - pardon the pun but there's no other word... saturated ( )

Messy has a lot more to it and vastly more niches to get into and it's near on impossible to saturate at such a level

The ones where people don't like the model, or the wardrobe, or the scenario, or some/all of the above.

You will not know which videos fall into these categories until you have already shot and paid for and spent days editing said videos.

Also, people are free to stop liking anything they previously liked with no prior warning.

Some movie spoofs sell great, and some horrible.

Some models' best-selling scene is a top hat one. For others it's the worst.

Some blondes sell better than some brunettes. Some brunettes sell better than some blondes.

The type of models that doesn't do well is the type that customers find unattractive.

i totally agree with rich. there have been videos ive done with one girl and it sold incredible. ive turned around and shot a similar video with a girl that i thought was even hotter and it tanked. but then shot another type of video with the hotter girl that did well, while a similar video with the first girl didn't. it's all hit and miss. it doesnt seem to matter what model type, video content, clothing, so on...some videos just do great while others don't.

All sorts of things outside the video's own attributes also affect sales - like what other videos are on the market at the same time; seasonal fluctuations influencing customers' spending power etc.

I have to say, from my small output, I see no true patterns at all. They do all sell though. I decided to remove what I thought were my least popular titles - the result of publicising this intention actually lead to a run on them greater than when they were brand new - putting them on the hotlist on the front page. I then felt I could hardly take them down until this 'flurry' subsided. So, they stayed up well beyond the original deadline.

It would be interesting to see an analysis of all the video sales across the UMD or of the Vidown stores as a whole. Some meaningful patterns may emerge - highlighting subject and models and their characteristics etc...

If Regis would finally buy something...

One thing I've always found odd is that positive feedback doesn't equate to good sales. Same as some great sellers get no feedback at all!?!

i noticed this, i dont know, a little over a year or 2 ago...that the most uproar you get, you go to look at sales and are like "whaaaaat?"
then, something can stay on the forums for NO TIME and its a best seller.
yall, its like flipping a coin so when you all ask for customs cheaper because "we can sell it in our store and make more money"
I cant do that bc its a 50/50 chance i will make NOTHING back on the discount I gave you and i have had ppl ask for up to 200 dollars worth of a discount bc "i can sell it"

i swear, there is no rhyme or reason. none. and yes lisa, MOST ppl that post on the forums are not buyers, i have found! but, hey, i appreciate them, though. even if they cant buy, they are helping us out with some free promo!! giving love and showing support! am i right?

but you are totally right. a forum post can get so much praise and attention and not sell ONE COPY. i swear! its happened so many times! i have just stopped getting worked up about it and trying to figure it out. there is no figuring it out. lol.
but, the praise is good and brings some buyers to other vids they have an interest in

Lisa and Jayce..you are so right. For me, much more than the fact that it's promotion, reading nice comments in the thread really encourages me. Even if the scene doesn't sell brilliantly, just reading nice comments about it in the threads really cheers me up. Conversely, when you post about a scene you are stoked about, and the board just completely ignores it...it's quite a downer.

it all depends on HOW FAR we go into the foot fetish, how much mess, and honestly, when its released. if its released at the same time as another producers HUGE release, it will get pushed under the rug, i suppose but over time, your stuff i have done for you has sold, its not STAGGERING but its enough to where i feel like my "discount" (since i was dating you) lol. was worth my while. yes. i dated a umd member. for a while.

It's interesting to me that some producers don't notice a correlation between the type of content in a video and number of sales. For me it is very obvious but I also have 4 years of data and enjoy statistical analysis.

The only content that doesn't do great for me is wetlook but I'll still do wetlook customs because I enjoy them.

we got pretty serious at one point so, i dont know....but yeah, whirlwind sounds better. lol XD i can dig it!

Wetlook can be quite hit and miss because there is so much wetlook on youtube and other places that are free. We did really well with the Dunk Tank films but as soon as we tried different ideas we didn't do so well.

With Messy it can again be very hit and miss and films you think will do well don't and others that you think won't sell do. Timing is another issue, release a film at the wrong time and it doesn't sell,maybe when there are lots of other films newly released. I've found that most sales happen within the first 6 weeks of a film being released.

Models and outfits make a huge difference as well. The bubbly models who really enjoy the filming seem to do well as do the ones able to keep to a scneario. It doesn't seem to matter how good looking a model is, if they don't enjoy it, or in our case don't dunk under the gunge then the films don't sell.

ive got 6 years of content and i am still at a loss.
i mean yeah, if i release 120 pounds of peanut butter i know that shit is gonna sell...
but i have funded my own fantasies and shared them...thinking ppl would love it! nope.
then, ive had amazing customs, go to sell them......wah wah waaaaahhhh...
then, ill go to just put up a custom that is SUCH a niche in the wam fetish....thinking it is just another update and it SELLS THROUGH THE ROOF!

the biggest producers on here have admitted to having no clue...to trying to appeal to broader audience, sometimes it works, sometimes it doesnt. i know that Noise (where are you, man??) was one of them...robby, SS, all of them have said there is no rhyme or reason.

With that being said as a consumer some can be finicky. I'm guilty of that as I normally only purchase from 2 of the best producers here...lol. That is when I have the means.

they have done pretty well for a full dressed set thank you for that, hooter! plus, i liked doing that one. getting in those uniforms brings back memories!!

I have 8 years of download store data, and almost twelve years of membership site data, and I concur with Jayce and the Reverend, the outcome of any given scene is way to variable to predict. A lot depends on who happens to be in the marketplace for scenes at any given time. One of our house specialities is girls in boilersuits, which I never expect to sell many of as they are primarily shot for myself and the relatively few other workwear fans - but if there happen to be a few boilersuit fans looking to buy just as we happen to release one, hey presto a nice sales run. But I've had scenes I expected to be big hits based on model's enthusiasm plus a fairly popular style of outfit, which have fallen completely flat, but other scenes that were shot for niche purposes go off the scale in sales terms. So these days I shoot what the models and I will enjoy doing, and then just see what happens when they are released. Variety is the spice of life, though sploshing with spicy stuff is not usually recommended unless one is a masochist.

Those Aussie accents are hot, though. If you pied an Australian girl, I would definitely buy that video!

Ones where I get inventive with the substance used. People seem to buy a set list of mess material, anything that deviates from those substances tends to sell less well.

you need to keep making those amazing inventive substances though! they give me inspiration to play and make stuff to play in and i dont give a shit if it sells! those are usually the sets that i save money for or have someone like minded who wants to see it and helps me fund just the set, doesnt pay me model fees or anything, just wants to see me do the same thing and helps me buy materials so, if it sells or not, doesn't really bother me. i got to do something rad and your stuff is BEAUTIFUL. it is innovative and just AMAZING. those are the only words i got! it really is wonderful stuff. i always enjoy it!!
