I am filming a great new script soon and while reading it over this afternoon, I realized that I'm not sure how many pies constitutes a 'pie barrage'? We're talking a realistic, rapid fire sequence here.
What would be your minimum threshold? Is five enough? Ten? Before you say '50', please consider that I'm asking 'realistically' - as part of a scene that has a lot of other stuff going on before and after!

Frankly, I'm not sure I'd have guessed the age of the photos if you hadn't said.
Anyway, I'd count anything over five as a barrage, as long as they were in quick succession. I suppose you could have too many in one go (ten or more), in that beyond a certain point each new pie will simply displace the mess from the previous one, and so you wouldn't get the "full benefit".
The quantity might be less important than the overall effect. I think a true barrage requires pies thrown from different directions, from multiple throwers, in quick succession.
Great Pics Mrs Bee, a good question also. Having only one assistant on occasion for shoots I've never received that many pies in quick succession lol I did get the remnants of pies plastered all over me again at the end of the shoot. I did love the effect lol Good luck with your shoot xx
I believe in one of your videos you kind of chide Big Shipper for stopping the pies at 4 and you said that does not constitute 'a barrage'. I'll go with 10.
I dont think the most important thing in a barrage is the number of pies but how many people are throwing at you. When I filmed barrages it was like 10 pies but I had 5 guys doing the throwing so those ten pies took like 3 sec and the model was completely covered from every angle

I think the number is less important than the fact that they're being delivered from multiple angles within a very short period of time... but for argument's sake, let's say 10 pies, thrown by four or five people if that's possible. (I volunteer to help.)
And for everyone else reading this thread... Let's all take a minute to appreciate the fact that not only is Mrs Bee willing to take a pie barrage -- she actually put time and effort into figuring out how to do it properly (as opposed to some anonymous person on Fiverr who charges you good money to take three paper plates full of melting Redi-Wip, one of which misses her entirely).
The more the merrier of course, but as others have also said, to me the phrase implies the rapid fire nature of the bombardment rather than the volume. Three or more pies without pause would constitute a mini-barrage. Preferably 50 though.
A thought popped into my head this morning. Going back to the definition. A barrage is diversion damn to change the course of the flow of water. The military use a barrage as an overwhelming relentless artillery volley to keep an enemy from advancing or retreating.
I see a nice bottle of Champagne on a table across the room and the lovely Mrs. Bee trying to get to it. Only to be delayed by a relentless barrage of pies! We all know that keeping Mrs. Bee from a bottle of bubbly is a formidable challenge! That would be fun to watch.
I tend to agree with most people on here as I believe you need to start with at 10 and I believe the key is the speed they are delivered and the damage they produce. Either way I'm sure the results will be great!
