"How did bakery/supermarket staff react when you told them your plans?"

Haven't done this for two reasons.
1. The folks at my gorcery store are either teenagers or lifers who have been there forever. They make the pies for eating, not for throwing, so I have tremendous doubts they'd even know how to answer the question. If I went in and said "Would pancake batter or cake batter make a better basis for slime," I imagine they would be totally clueless for multiple reasons.
2. This is just my personal perspective with no judgment, but maybe more importantly, I'd feel odd bringing a total stranger into the fetish in this way. The subtext is "I have this pie fetish, please help me fulfill it." I don't think anyone should be ashamed of who they are, but for me engaging with the grocery store folks about it crosses a fine line. Like, a model or friend or partner is willing to get pied for whatever reason but needs to know someone's honest intentions going in. A grocery store clerk doesn't really get that chance to say "no" to your fetish question...for me, asking them could be putting them in an awkward position they're not comfortable with. There's no previous trust established and trust is big for me (whether in a personal relationship or professionally between someone getting pied for the cash or just the kicks).

"We're staging a pie-fight" has elicited, from different people at different times form various bakery counters:
a laugh
a nod
no reaction whatsoever (most common)
"Really?" in a tone of utter disappointment of our life choices
Directions to the cans of whipped cream and/or the cans of shaving cream.
Years ago there was a place in Burbank that would make bakery goods for wholesale supply, and we did ask for pies that had the maximum "slapstick" quality, for a "shoot". Of course it was just for us but we didn't tell them that. They nodded, gave us the price (ouch, by the way, but in the end, worth it), and put together a bunch of pies made from Altadena brand "Baker's Heavy Cream".
Otherwise, I wouldn't ask that in a supermarket. Just, "When will six pies be ready for pickup?".
Those folks are overworked and underpaid as it is, and spend the day dealing with Karens, and with homeless people shoplifting and taking a poo in the middle of aisle 7. They don't need my weird-ass questions about bakery inventory.
Have you thought of telling that you need the items for a photo shoot and that they have to stand up to being out of the fridge for long periods of time?

When I buy like 20 liters of chocolate syrup the checker will ask what I'm getting them for and I always say "chocolate bath". The usual response I get is "iina" which is a subtle way of saying "I'm jealous" here. I've been asked how does it wash, which I tell them it's really easy because chocolate is water soluble. A few times the activity of chocolate bath has been inquired about and they ask why I do. I say I pour the chocolate on me so I can cover myself, unfortunately I can't fill my whole tub with chocolate. I've been asked if it's sticky and I say it is but water washes it away extremely easily.

The occasions I have been through a staffed checkout with ludicrous multiple volumes of 'incriminating' food types have, 99.9 percent of the time, passed without comment. Only once did a rather elderly woman at the checkout commend my bulk buying of baking ingredients. I just concurred "I always buy in bulk. You save in the long run".

About 30 years back...my early, early 20s I went out to the store to pick up some supplies for some messy fun with a girl I was dating, Jennifer.
i just flat out picked up half a dozen pies. This was a 24 hour store, so almost no traffic near midnight...I'm a night owl.

I have friends who do know about it all though they still think it's weird. One friend who knows goes shopping w me several times a month but the two times I loaded up on stuff while getting my groceries, he noticed the supplies and was like oh is the wifei baking and I lied and said yes. Not sure why since he knows my weird stuff and he tells me about his hook ups, but maybe cause we are in the store I just subconsciously lie?

Something very interesting just happened to me. I have never been to CA and her I am on my first trip and I'm at a grocery stir in Larkspur by a ton of pie supplies when the cashier says to me ". Oh it's the pie guy again. You want plastic like last time". My response was sure but made me think. Who is the pie guy in Marin county buying all the pie supplies at this store???

I've been asked several times about my purchases. I usually hand them one of my business cards or stickers and tell them we are in fact having a party. Some of my models get super cheeky about it. While we were loading up pudding and sprinkles a clerk asked one of the ladies, "Is there anything I can help you with?" and without missing a beat she says "Sure... which color of frosting do you think would look best smeared across my naked body?" He kinda stammered for a moment and said "Ummm... purple probably?" and then scampered off. I tend to shoot a lot of exhibitionist stuff for several of my models and we include some of it in some of the scenes I publish so you can see them flashing and showing off in the shops before we go perform the scene.
