i always wonder....
is it good to stick to what the video is "dixie covered in a bunch of chocolate"
or clever names? like "dixie down the chocolate river" (that is a poor example) lol xD but when i think about what people are searching for, i think, well, if i use this clever little name for my video, will people find it in their search for something like this?
also, we have slang that in other countries some dont understand.
i like that messmaster put another box where you have more space to really explain what is going on but when you see the title of a video do you prefer an actual explanation of whats going on or something catchy?
i think, "okay, catchy can bring them to read the description, see if its something they would enjoy but just getting to the point is also good so they just GET IT and its also good for people in other countries who dont share our same "lingo and slang" bc lets face it. the umd is DIVERSE as far as people all over the world are here!!

I enjoy wordplay, but I'm happy that you're keeping other nations in mind, so that when they look it up, the joke may not make that much sense to them.

I love clever titles, especially when they also get to the point. Like the video you did for me eons ago, "Jayce Can Take a Mouthful" gives you an idea of what's going on (mouth-filling) but is also a little dirty and gets to what I assume most people find appealing about mouthplay - blowjobs.

Also, let's be honest, you're amazing and everyone knows whatever you do is going to be hot, so have fun with the titles.

Well In my opinion anything you can due to make your video stand out from the rest is a good thing weather that's a catchy title or some really good "money" shots of the action or a unique plot line, your hook should be baited with what people are looking for but at the same time make sure YOUR bait looks tasty if you know what I mean.

The snag with this is that names of WAM clips have two different purposes. (Sorry Jayce!)

I like the more imaginative titles when you sell them, as "Jayce covered in custard" is a nice prospect, but it's also a bit dull. "Custard Capers" is more fun! So, it gets my attention.

However, once a scene is on my hard drive I want to be able to easily find it. So, I now prefer something prosaic ("Jayce slimed in green") instead of abstract ("The Unbearable Lightness of Slime"), as the plainer, more descriptive titles are more helpful.

I suppose the ideal is to mix the two, and have an eye-catching title that nonetheless tells you what the clip is about.

You can do both if you get creative. For instance

1. Jayce pours 10 cartons of custard over herself and masturbates with a hitachi wand.

2. Jayce's Custard Catastrophe.

but that implies the use of hitachis is catastrophic.....to some people they would read this and think of something BAD. when in fact, i mean it as a joking way of saying "got damn, this shit was catastrophically GOOD" you know what i mean??

but i love the name!! i love all these clever titles! like i said, m.m. just put a new feature where you can accurately describe the scene, but, when you go to search or are seeing an ad for example, you see the title.

that is a big thing for me....i pay for ads, every month, along with what we all have to pay in fees to sell here so, when i put up an ad, i want it to be something that EVERYONE can understand and when they see it, they click on it. especially the small squares on the front home page. those featured site ads go QUICK bc people come to the home page to purchase. with those, its the TITLE that is underneath the pic. not just the title but the first few words of title! when you spend on ads, you wanna make sure they are worth your while.

i would like to get to the point and have some clever little title too. we get to have 45 spaces, i believe, for our titles so, its a job to try to get it all in there! we have the search engines but there is SO MUCH material on here, you can get lost in it all!

these are all really good opinions. is there anyone outside of the us who has ever bought a video or seen a video that the description just doesnt seem to make sense but you see the pics and it is something you want to buy? i would love to hear opinions from across the pond!!

I try to go for shorter catchy ones now just because I enjoy being silly and thinking them up but sometimes that just doesn't work and inspiration doesn't strike... and I go back to fairly clear description of what is happening. It doesn't seem to affect sales at all just amuses me whenever possible

You do have that weird thing where you call the stuff that's always being poured over your head "slime" instead of the British "gunge" (and while we're on the subject, you probably pronounce "tomato" and "potato" a bit funny too), but apart from that Jayce we're all good. I never have any problem understanding your descriptions, honest!

I used to have clever (or not so clever) names for my videos, especially when I published the scripts.
But in a download store scenario, it makes WAY more sense to just label the clips where customers can find them easily. (SS152 Scene 1, SS152 Scene 2, etc.) In fact, I didn't do this when I started adding clips in the UMD Store..... since I was only adding them selectively.... and now when compiling stats, I always have to ask myself, "Wait? Is 'Breana Goes Bananas' from SS172? Or SS164???"

ANYWAY. If you don't have a labeling system in place by now, it's probably fine to just give the clips clever titles so they can be distinguished. And customers can always check the "added on" dates if they're looking for earlier or later clips (I assume).

And BTW, clever titles make ZERO difference when it comes to sales. Otherwise the continuing adventures of Kandy Kane (currently played by 25 different girls, and counting) would be HUGE sellers.... if only for terrible titles like "The Pie Who Loved Me".... "For Your Pies Only"...... And of course, "Live And Let Pie".....

Copy the TV show Friends. Start each title as "The one with". Such as The one with 140 eggs, or The one with wetlook dildo riding.

"The Magnificent Moomins." (The Magnificent Ambersons." )
I Love Mrs Bee." (I really do).
"The Diana Shore Slime Show." "Planet Slime." ("Planet 49.") "On a Slimy Pond." "Call Slime Side 777. "The Slime Ranger."

I would always use a main word, probably the substance. So for example, 'mud' or 'slime'.
Then, I would try to be a bit creative. 'Madness in the Mud' or 'Moonlight Mud' or 'Mud Diving' pretty well sum up what the videos will be about. 'Slime Storm' would imply slime being thrown on you like rain blowing in the wind. (Hey, now THAT'S an interesting idea!) 'Drowning in Slime' would imply a very deep pool of it that you might fall or roll into.

So I'd use the 1-2 approach. 1 is the substance, 2 is the little description. So 'Pies in my dress' would be pretty clear - you're pied while in a dress, but also pies are being shoved IN your dress.

Just my 2 cents worth, from a twelve inch chunk of plastic.

I may give something a clever name in a forum post, but my first sites were event-based so dates were the most logical naming convention. When I branched out into scripted work, I just kept using simple site initials and a number for both the filename and title. Its fast and efficient and makes it super easy to find the item in the catalog if I can't remember what it's about.

I think I have produced something like 1000 clips over the years and even if I had started with normal names, I would have run out of ideas a decade ago and switched to my current method anyway.

Whatever works for you.

It'd be boring if everyone followed a neat and tidy numbered labeling system with names and substances in the same order all the time but it'd be tricky if everyone used catchy titles which might not always be entirely to the point.

I'm going to take a risk and say that catchy titles give a good representation of you and your work. But if it's a clip that just NEEDS to have info in the title which gets straight to the point then that works for that clip.

If titles make no difference to sales then that means you can 100% go with what you like.

I agree with Emi I think it would be fun to have creative titles but also be to the point about what substance you're using so fans can still know if it interest them or not.

In the ads on here, isn't the picture far more telling than the title?

this is really helpful. i have one coming up and i think i have a title for it. its pretty simple....but i think im gonna change the locale of the video to go MORE WITH the title. and the locale is somewhere most people are like "i hate it when girls shoot here" but, the way im going to set it up, will go with the title AND be a good way to keep all the mess all around me and with the colors, really set the whole theme off...

Love this idea - it sounds really fun!

1. I don't care for the title.
2. Something short to be able to find it would be helpful to all.
3. I prefer any resources to be spent on anything else.
4. Many times over doing ruin things. It doesn't have much impact in a title, but when producers are bored and want to make it interesting for them (getting a reaction video of a guy in the middle of the main action...?) it just ruins it for me. Can't get into specifics without shaming.

With titles, I try and come up with something short and snappy that still gets the main point of the scene over, so for example the recently released two-girl swimsuit filling extravaganza is titled "Messy Swimsuit Comparison", the one we released on Imperatrix Domina a while ago with Susie and Rosemary sexily messing each other up in real leather jeans with kissing, groping, etc, is "Messy Lesbians in Leather". As we are a fully clothed operation, I assume most of our customers will chose what to buy based on what outfits the models are wearing so we try and make that clear in the titles and descriptions, and also always include full view clean "before" shots so people can know exactly what clothing they are going to see being messed up.

When it comes to making it easy for customers to file scenes they have downloaded, we actually operate a filename code system which is partly based on the one Rob Blaine used back in the 1990s. That two girl swimsuit scene is gm-2f176, and so all the files that go with it have names that start with that code, which means they'll always stay together in a folder.

In that particular case the files you get are:

gm-2f176-part-1.zip
gm-2f176-part-2.zip
gm-2f176-v1-chastity-friday-swimwear.mp4
gm-2f176-v2-boot-pours-and-hosedown.mp4

And all the photos inside the zip files will be 2f176-xxxx.jpg. We also list the code numbers in the download here, and on our main sites, and in the watermarks on the freebies, so it should always be easy to find a particular scene, if you've got say a free sample pic and want to find where to buy the rest of the set.

The explanation of the code is that gm stands for "gungemaster" (our original URL), the Imperatrix Domina ones have "id-" at the start instead, then the 2 indicates "second series" (which began in 2006 and is still running), the "f" indicates food mess, and then 176 is the set serial number.

The code numbers can also be used to easily find things on our sites, for example the URL http://saturationhall.com/?set=gm-2f176 (note the set number in the paramater at the end) will take you to the Saturation Hall site with that particular scene as the "Featured Set".

Basically we want to make it as easy as possible for potential customers to find things they may like, via the title, description, and sample images, and then once they've purchased, help them organise the files for easy and convenient ordering on their hard drive.

We have sometimes used cleverer titles where they still get the point across, for example "Bride of Beans" was a wedding dress deluged in baked beans scene (gm-2f133), the title still makes that reasonably clear, as you'd usually expect a bride to be in a wedding dress.

Note MM's system has both title and "catchphrase" (effectively subtitle), we've always tended to use a shorter actual title and then a slightly more detailed subtitle, perhaps naming the girls involved if they aren't named in the main title.

A little late to the conversation, but for what its worth a similar question was once asked of the late Carrol Shelby about why he named his new hot rod Mustang the "GT-350" (which was, incidentally, the distance from the end of the production line to the door of the aircraft hanger he had rented to build them in). His answer was "A bad name won't kill a great product, and a great name won't save a bad one."

Point being, focus on keeping your product itself up to the standards you want it to be known for and pick a consistent pattern for whatever you choose for names. Much like a good mud video; people like consistency. Most find it comfortable. But you have been around here long enough that people know you and your brand here, and know what to expect so focus on continuing to give your customer base what they want and have grown to expect from your videos, and keep the names fun but searchable as to people and content.
