I've noticed that my "Friends" count has reduced by one, and on scanning the names I've realised that it's "Potatoman-J"/Jason that's gone. His posts are still up - he commented just yesterday on Candy's "porridge" thread - but there's nothing there now when you click on his profile.

Does anyone know the story? I know he left here once before and then came back, and I'm a bit concerned he seems to have left again. I just hope he's okay.

Okay, so out of curiosity what has he done then? The pic is still visible, as are the posts, but when you click on the pic the profile doesn't exist. So is there another option below "delete" that's not quite so drastic? I thought it was delete or stay, with nothing in between.

I must admit, I don't understand how this sort of thing works on here. Is there a difference between "Profile deleted" and "Profile removed"? I've no idea.

I think there is a setting that can effectively make you invisible, but still keep the account active. Potatoman messaged me the other week to say he was closing down some social media presence, so I think as Candy says he's taking a digital break. We all hope he's OK and will return in time.

Yep, his profile is set to "invisible" at the moment. He'll most likely be back again someday.

Okay, thank you DM and Soundguy for explaining that. It sounds rather better than just deleting his account and walking away, at any rate.

he did mail me before doing this and say he deactivated his facebook so that's what makes me think a umd break is part of a general online/digital break. I look forward to his return
