Now before I start, I want to be clear this has nothing to do with any models affiliated with this site. This is also not a thread about being ripped off for a custom. This more of a general question, to see how many people this happens to. I was looking back at old emails and it's happen too many times to be a coincidence.

Over the years, I've ordered many customs from different models and various websites. Some models have been great and really professional.

However, many times, everything goes great before payment, as far as communication, price negotiation, etc. Then I'm told they can deliver the video in 2-3 days, fast delivery, etc. So I send payment. However after 2-3 days go by, no video. A week goes by, I contact them and they always say the same thing, they or a family member magically gets the flu/cold or a distant relative is suddenly sick in the hospital.

At first I thought these excuses were legit, but after 10 or 15 times of this happening it's too much. I should also mention they were all different models.

Don't get me wrong, I know things in real life can happen, so being the reasonable guy that I am, I politely offer to cancel. So I say they can send me a refund and we can reschedule when it's a better time and everyone is healthy. But every single time after a refund is mentioned, a day or two later everyone makes a miraculous recovery.

So my question is this a common thing, where models pretend to be sick to extend a delivery date? I'm the type person that if they were just upfront and said they needed more time, I wouldn't have a problem. I just really hate being lied to.

Speaking as a producer i'd hate to think it was the norm, Maddie has had plenty of customs commissioned and has previously offered a one week turn around sometimes though this type of arrangement can't be available (for example if she has to source a specific outfit from china) but she makes people aware of this

In terms of what MessMaster has done in regard to regulating customs on this site is a welcomed edition so kudos to him

As a web developer, I have always wanted someone to create an "elance" for custom fetish videos.

I know clips4sale is a huge, huge business. I imagine a much smaller but still lucrative business model can exist for custom projects.

If you're not familiar with how elance.com works, people post projects and get bids. Once a bidder is selected escrow is funded.

When proof the project has been completed has been submitted, escrow is released.

Now, one obvious challenge for the WAM community is customs involve hard costs. There could be a way where the model could receive a percentage of the escrow immediately to cover those costs.

So you get a bunch of models to sign up for free and they can bid on projects. There can be built in mechanisms for time-wasters (guys to endlessly pelt models with emails for customs but never pull the trigger) such as:

1) A minimum price so some idiot doesn't think he's gonna get a 4 girl pie/slime custom for $100.

2) A feature to suspend guys who posts projects but never choose a bidder.

I believe this is a very lucrative business idea. Feel free to use it: I'm slammed with my business.

But where's the single site to get a custom fetish video done where you have a choice of indie models from around the world? Nadda.

I can't tell you how many customs from various fetishes I've ordered over the past 15 years. Well over 100. Most go rather smoothly. Those that don't are nightmares.

I've been burned several times and also waited months over the "family issues" (better know as "I've spent the money and now can't produce your project") excuse.

coming from a "producer" stand point here. I can HONESTLY (and i am a pretty brutally honest person) say that shit DOES happen.
now, that is not to say that you havent been lied to before but, i have a child, alone. My sister that runs my store with me and has been commissioned customs with me now lives 3 hours away, a million things could go wrong with her getting here. ariel has two children, a husband, step children, the whole nine.
so, coming from the House of Mess stand point, yeah, i do think that shit does happen because it has happened to us numerous times! we always deliver awesome stuff but I have thought this over as well, as to how we could honestly just say "hey, we want to get it to you on this date BUT, it may come a little later, if it does, ill just send you some free vids until it gets to ya" because I, for one, have never been in a situation where i have spent the money. that is just too damn risky. i can speak for ariel on that note, too because she is the same way.
I honestly think that two things need to happen.
1. us as producers just need to look at the video, what it will take to do it and be like "im gonna be honest, i think i can get it done by such and such date BUT, if there is a delay what can we work out to make you happy until it is done"
2. i also think that people buying the customs should really consider, this is something you put your hard earned money into. You are asking for your FANTASY. it is being played out to the best of someones ability. do you really want to rush it? I have gotten stuff out in 3 days but that has been times where shit just went right, i already had the supplies handy and that is few and far between. I think customers should honestly take into account that this is something that takes so much of our time with back and forth emails, getting supplies, outfits, sitters, setting up, clean up before kids get back, editing 18 times to get it right. It is not just setting up a camera and getting messy.
So, i think customers should honestly just think to yourself "how hectic is MY life?" and then think about having to push all those things above into the maybe 3 hours a day you have to actually do this, perfectly after grocery shopping, cleaning, laundry, pta, other school activities, hell, paying bills, getting cars fixed, I mean just LIFE!
I do agree with you, though! if a model says she can get it to you FOR REAL in 3 days....she should. If she cant, she should try to compensate you in some way by maybe giving you a free vid or free vid(s) until this is complete or something.
I just think us girls gotta be more real. Making your ultimate video takes time! I know this just reminded me to change my turn around time on my profile. lol
ALSO: (lord this is long!) like for example ariel and I. we both shoot eachothers customs, we are always asked to be in them together and we have customs that come to me, and customs that come to her. So, we have to take into account "ok, i need to take today to film YOUR stuff because the person paid 2 weeks ago" then, we switch up. So, we keep things fair we do it by WHEN you ordered it and try to give people an idea of how backed up we are (when we are backed up) lol

Hi guys! I am the producer that "Noidea" is talking about and unfortuntely there were problems with doing his shoot but the reason he's happy is because as he said, and as the original thread commentator requested the communication between us has been honest, clear and frequent. That said I think Noidea has been incredibly patient! Normally I like to get my customs done within a month of commission and usually only take the costs in advance and my modelling fee on completion/delivery which protects both parties. I will take full payment sometimes in advance but I never spend any more than the shoot costs that I've incurred until the job is done just in case there's some disaster and I need to refund.

Customs shoukd be easy fun work not hassle ( for either side) and as the original poster on this thread says if you stick to a few simple rules then it should run smoothly. My final words of advice would be: producers, don't spend any more money than that you incur on the shoot until its completed and commisoners: protect your investment by arranging to pay half in advance for costs and the other half on delivery. I can't speak for other producers but I'd always consider that reasonable.

This is why capitalism fails: because government is always involved somehow anyway: the instant anyone brings up the words "legal" or "illegal", or otherwise in the job of settling disputes, or the massive paperwork of setting up a business, we're talking government. So, one might as well put government to work creating jobs, doing productive things (yes, I consider making porn & fetish videos & material productive work).

For the past year I've been caught in an endless loop of:

1. apply for job
2. nope, no jobs: crowdfund
3. but first, gotta register as a non-profit
4. but first, gotta set up a corporation/LLC/trust/association
5. but first, need money to pay for fees to create said corporations/trust/etc
6. back to 1, because I can't afford to spend $100s on fees on a risky venture

Steps 3, 4, 5 - the "gotta" parts - are caused by laws, i.e. government.
So, either remove (all) laws & go totally anarchic (&, no, that's not a derogatory thing), or have government create & provide ALL services AND jobs to do those services, including WAM fetish porn.

OH ! and just fyi! us girls get lied to A LOT TOO!
we get messages---and we talk to these people. take up HOURS of our time them asking what size shoe or outfit we wear and tell us they are going to buy it for us and we tell them, if they do, we will do a scene in said outfit or shoes and they get it first and for free.
we wait......we wait.......and they keep telling us it is happening and we just wasted literally, not kidding, HOURS of just talking about what we are going to do with this stuff.
OR, we just get lied to by other producers, models and stuff for just no good reason. it is silly.

From the consumer perspective, is there really a need to rush the order and get it in 3 days? It won't kill to wait 1-2 weeks...

I was told getting cable would be awesome, but it's the same endless loop of Big Bang Theory reruns and ads for community colleges you never heard of as regular tv.

Interesting. I've probably ordered 10 customs in the last 20 years, and they've mostly went very smoothly. I never didn't get the product. Some were from WAM producers, others, just models I like who said they'd give it a try. One of them was bad at understanding face coverage.

Which brings me to my larger point about the e-lance model. For some of us, the model involved is why we order the custom--having to be "blacklisted" if you don't choose a bidder seems like a bummer to me, since maybe none of those who "apply" to do the custom have models that appeal to the poster.

I suspect I'll always deal directly with producers and accept any risk that entails.

I've always enjoyed dealing with companies who deliver sooner than expected.

Just a suggestion; maybe if a producer thinks it's going to take 3 days to do the custom, tell the buyer 1 week. That way if anything happens, you've got a buffer. And if it only takes 3 days, he'll be thrilled to get it sooner!

I previously worked for a manufacturer who would promise short lead times and then try to meet them. Most of the time the orders were late. I tried suggesting that they pad the lead times by at least a few days, but they said that no one would want to wait that long. So they rushed product out even if there were problems with it. They are now out of business.

I actually feel that this is by far, one of the biggest issues that causes problems in the customs market. Although I'm yet to have a custom done where I'm unhappy with the end product, the majority have suffered from prolonged periods with little to no communication from the producers at one stage or another.

As a customer, I put a lot of time and effort into taking my ideas and developing them into full scripts. Deciding what aspects need to be set in stone and where room can be allowed for producer/model influence. Researching which models and producer styles fit best with what I have in mind and then sourcing any necessary supplies. All of this before even contacting the chosen producer and bringing the cost into it. Naturally, I or any other customer won't want to be made to feel that all of that time and effort was wasted through perceived inaction on the producers part.

That being said, I do understand that the producers do actually have lives of their own which are likely to be just as busy if not busier than mine. Given that and the volume of messages that they are likely to receive, I know that it's simply not possible to respond to them all straight away and that things will get pushed back or buried as more immediate needs arise.

Unfortunately, there doesn't seem to be and easy way around it. At the very least, it requires both patience and understanding from the customer and efficiency and courtesy from the producer. For example, I won't start spamming a producer daily if I feel that I haven't heard from them in a while, yet when I do send a message requesting an update (usually after a month or so unless I have a scheduled date for the shoot), I'd rather get a reply within the following week, letting me know that although they don't have any new info, they are still working on it, than nothing at all.

Of course, while this seems to happen a lot, it isn't always the case and to end on a positive, I'd like to name both Jilly and Dunktankbabes as producers with whom I've been particularly impressed by when dealing with them.

I think that the only way to be reasonably sure that the model or production company is legit is to check their history, customer reviews, and samples of their work. That's why I built the Custom Film Producers section: http://umd.net/stores/customs and the Custom Film Models section: http://umd.net/change_settings/new_models_sortby/does_customs . People can leave reviews for the customs producers, and I don't filter them, so hopefully they can turn into a reliable source to find real info about your next prospective model.

Personally I never promise to deliver faster than a month. Which sounds a long time but as you said above Norman if it's going to take around three weeks then just be honest and quote for a little longer at the start of the project. It buys time if something does go wrong without pissing off your client and if it gets done quicker then everyone's happy.

I've read models on this thread complaining about time wasters. Luckily I haven't experienced that. I tend to get to the nitty gritty of what we're going to do quick quickly so that's not a problem.

The reason I posted this thread. On Sunday, I had a model who I hadn't worked with before, tell me she had been admitted to the hospital for the flu at 2 am that morning. That was the reason she couldn't deliver the video that day like we agreed.

However once again, I offer to cancel/refund. I get no response for a day.

Now exactly 2 days later, just as I mentioned/predicted before, a miraculous recovery. The video was emailed to me 3 hrs ago this morning. The video was great and also no indication of her being sick.

I've had many customs made in the past and many have been a success. However , I've been let down unfortunately by a handful of people.

Like a fool, I paid my money up front on those occasions, it's a shame that it happens as there are so many wonderful people out there who enjoy doing customs and strive too do the best job they can for you.

I've learned to offer just a deposit up front and the balance on delivery.

Some of my fave people I've had the pleasure of working with in the past are Wamprincess ( A few years ago now, still one of my fave customs , featuring the best pie sandwich ever ).

I have been let down by a few famous names though , which is a shame as the one person was one of my fave Splosh girls. Money's paid and comms just stopped. I'm still hoping but it's been a few months now since our last comms

Don't think it is lied to. It is they try to line up as many custom that want they same 1 or 2 models. Forgot who the custom 2nd or 3rd goes to using the same style or type of mess.

My 2 cents on the "i am/was sick" thing -- i think people just get over their heads. By which I mean time, but also over-promising, etc.

I tend to make plans for coffees/drinks/lunches, it's part of my daily life/job, and then there are those days where you're like "GAHHHHHH! I have overbooked myself, i'm stressed." And i think people are bad, desperate liars -- I would always say "I hate to do this, but i got food poisoning last night, can we reschedule coffee this morning?" but then realized the power of not necessarily HAVING to give everyone an excuse for everything.

That said, I've no doubt there are a handful or scammers/irreputable producers.

But i think people tend to just "Panic" and come up with lies. Either that, or all the girls I tried to date between the ages of 15-25 really did have to wash their hair a whole lot/have sick grandmothers...

I've been speaking with a lovely female producer and she's been a doll/dream so far, not just efficient, but also super enthusiastic and caring about what I would like, and it's been a total pleasure to work with her so far.

When I'm ordering a custom from a model I've never dealt with before, I never pay 100% upfront. Instead, I offer references from the other models I've worked with who can attest to the fact that I order a lot of videos and always pay.

I'm happy to cover the costs of materials and the fees of other models upfront (If I'm requesting a multiple girl custom) but that's it.

I've never been a fan of absorbing 100% of the risk. If she really does get sick, ends up hospitalized or a plane falls on her, then I'm ass out. Life does happen, so please don't request that I pay 100% upfront.

To echo Jayce's comments. I ordered a custom from her that will include Ariel. She has been in continuous contact with me since we initiated our transaction back in late December, 2014.

Granted I have been disappointed that the end result is not here yet but then I come to my senses and realize that life happens. Jayce and Ariel have been plagued with terrible snow storms this season which of course make it a challenge. There have also been legitimate personal episodes on her end that make it hard, and I believe what she is telling me (otherwise she would not be keeping in constant contact with me...including showing me the pieces of the outfits she has already obtained).

In the interim, she has kept me apprised of how she is doing with obtaining the outfits I requested and compensating me for the long wait time (I won't disclose how. That is between her and I. All on an ethical and reasonable level, of course. I just wouldn't want someone to think they could take advantage of Jayce. So no details on that here.)

I am completely convinced that Jayce and Ariel are going to make an awesome video that everyone will be sure to plunk down their money for.

I'm eager but I'm patient.

Also, you, Jilly and of course Ariel are just such wonderful additions to the UMD. I don't remember it being quite as fun - and genuinely funny. Your personalities show in your responses, your work, etc. It does not go unnoticed!

The descriptions on your/Jilly's website of the various videos are terrific, and done with love, personality, humor, honesty, etc.

The descriptions of how overwhelmingly sensual the Mystery Substance and similar "tub" shoots are are particularly vivid -- you can tell that it's a really intense, sexy, mind-scrambling (to quote WEIRD SCIENCE) experience.

When we do a custom, we ask for a deposit / half payment up front. When the video is completed, edited, the customer will then send us the other half..and they will then get their video. After the shoot, we will at least send a few still shots right away to hold them over until editing was complete.

Worse case scenario - if we absolutely could not do it, because of a sticky situation (no pun intended), that came about suddenly, etc, we would simply return the deposit back to the customer with a sincere apology. We don't do customs anymore, but this is how we did things.

If it's a really *sticky* situation, you could film it and sell it!
