I'm also a bass player, upright and electric bass. Guitar and mandolin/mandola too. I'm less busy at the moment than a few years ago, but keep one or two projects on the go. (And my bandmates don't know I make videos and put 'em up on fetish sites - it's fun to have secrets!)
What brand bass do you play? I just bought a fender pbass..not a huge fender fan but this thing sounds tit recorded. Also got an epiphone thunderbird..she ways a ton but i love her.
I'm playing a five-string that I built myself. It looks a little different, but basically does what a Fender Jazz does. I always liked the look and sound of Rickenbacker basses too, but they get kind of costly over here!
Guitar over here. Don't play nearly as often as I used to. Living in a condo means I can't crank my amp, so it's less fun. I find myself playing more on the acoustic, but it's more fun to rock the electric for sure...Was never really serious, just play for fun. Self taught myself through on-line guitar tab sites, and did pretty good at mastering everything except for solos, I don't understand how anyone can solo, I could never remember all that and my fingers don't move that fast, maybe if I took actual lessons back in the day I would know how to solo. In highschool I had a band that went through three phases...the "Emotionless Reality" phase followed by "Creeping Obesity" and then eventually "Cystic Rambosis" we played 3 live shows, I'm pretty sure all 3 were terrible because we were the worst collection of musicians...me on guitar/vocals, the bassist who could not play bass, and the drummer who didn't want to play anything we wanted to play because he was more into classic rock than thrash and punk.
Started on guitar in the 60s. Played bass professionally for years during the 70s and 80s, then eventually moved behind the sound console.
Didn't play much at all for decades, but got back into noodling around at home lately. Have just one bass now (a Mexi-Jazz) and something like 15 guitars. I'm also getting back into tube amps and have about a dozen, plus a couple dozen solid state corpses that I'm going to turn into hand-rolled low wattage tube amps one of these days.
My nearest neighbors are at least 100 feet away, but nobody tolerates a cranked 100 watt Marshall stack for long. I can dime a 1-2 watter for hours though. That makes them a lot more interesting and useful to collect and build.
Classically trained pianist and theory / composition major here. Was developing ideas on music theory called "Nocturnal Theory" in college. Used to write original music and sell it on cassette tapes back in 1997 on a site that would itself eventually become UMD. I kept the same color scheme (night mode) and the logo font is the same.
I'm so rusty now that I'm back to scales and fingerings Gotta get my chops back so I can join the jam session in Vegas with Soundguy...
Both Bob and myself are classically trained musicians. We both hold a Master's degree in Art/Music. Bob's specialities are piano, organ, composition, theory and music history. I myself play the violin.
Respect for the sound engineers, truly a skill. I studied production and engineering for a while but my ear isn't good enough! These days I mainly mess around with my home studio and the occasional DJ gig.

Ah, DIY valve amps are a hobby of mine too. The last one was loosely based on the old plexi Marshalls, but with a smaller power amp and built as a 1x12" combo. That seems plenty for anywhere I've played.
I played acoustic and bass many years ago and I had a pretty good voice back then too. I picked up drums about 15 years ago. I just love playing Moon style lol! I saw The Who in 1975 at the Pontiac Silverdome, that did it! The last band I was in was 6 years ago but I still play when I can. Out here in the boonies it's been difficult to find anyone that plays. I'm working on it though.
ps... the video of me in the zebra dress... I used to perform in that dress regularly!
To get back to the original thread I play very basic guitar and sing and also play various percussion instruments such as the Irish Whistle. I have also written a fairly large number of songs, 3 of which were actually quite good.
I've been playing with band colleagues for nearly 30 years, so music is a huge part of my life
Yes, Keith Moon of The Who. I saw them in 1975 when I was 15 years old and my life was changed forever. I also love playing Cream, Hendrix, Allman Brothers, funk rock... anything that jams. If you are a musician, I would either drive you crazy or you would love playing with me because I rarely play the same song the same way twice. My best friends are bass players lol!
I also LOVE playing with an awesome female singer fronting, something I have had the pleasure of doing several times. When they belt out Susan Tedeschi, Aretha, or Janice, I really feel it!
I owned a record label and recording studio a while back. It went nowhere though I did get to meet a LOT of really cool players in all genres. This is a pic of me playing "Sundown" by Gordon Lightfoot with a world class female jazz guitarist, one of my oldest friends. I feel it's fuzzy enough to keep my identity hidden!
Classical pianist here! Gearing up for my local concert tour in FL (looking to do 10 or so performances). For the music-nerdy among us, I'll be playing: BACH/BUSONI Chaconne in D minor SCHUBERT impromptu in B flat (Variations) BEETHOVEN "Appassionata" Sonata in F minor CHOPIN Ballade No. 1 in G minor LISZT "Un sospiro" Concert Etude in D flat MEDTNER Skazki in C and in B flat minor Forgotten Melodies (Primavera & Danza Festiva)
Awesome thread! There should be a jam in the future! I play keys/piano professionally. Jazz trio, solo player, musical theater director, accompanist, arranger, and in an 80s cover band. Major sightreading geek, too!
