so, i apologize if i am behind here but i put out a new video and it sells lets just say 12 copies but is downloaded 80 times....in a day....
now, i can understand it may being downloaded 24 times...hell, sometimes ppl have trouble downloading, servers go down, etc. but the amount of times my stuff is downloaded to the amount that is being purchased is INSANE.
the numbers are sometimes 10x what the actual number of purchases are...
in ONE DAY. this cant be right.
there has to be a way to track this, right? i mean, if someone has successfully downloaded it, cant it be cut off to the user after that? i know when you use wetransfer, once the file is downloaded, thats it. they have a certain amount of TIME to download but once they do, and you get confirmation, they cant download it again. you have to send the video again if they wanted to do that.
and i apologize if i am totally behind if this has been explained but with all the talk of ppl thinking that they have a RIGHT to share vids, and the industry taking a big hit, not to mention my sales have been downright CRAZY LOW as opposed to when this did not used to happen....
there has to be some kind of explanation and some way to fix this if there is a problem ? yes?

I can look back on videos from 2 years ago and lets just say for numbers sake
64 sold....it shows 82 downloads. that seems reasonable...okay, someone downloaded it again bc it didn't work the first time, or a few did, understandable....but almost 10 times the amount of downloads per vids sold?

if people are sharing download codes, it is piracy.... of sorts..

I usually download a video that I bought twice to be sure that I didn't have anything go wrong. I've had a few cases that I only discovered that after the expiration, so I've adopted a policy of downloading twice and then comparing the files to be sure that I got the same thing (in which case, it is usually safe to assume the download is good). Wetransfer has also allowed me to do that if the time period has not expired.

Of course, that would not account for that high of a numerical discrepancy. If everybody did that, you'd see a ratio of 2x not nearly 7 as you are.

Would that get messed up by people using download managers/accelerators? Some of those download multiple segments at once, and I know can sometimes mess up statistics. I don't know if the statistics the UMD shows you would be affected by that or not.

According to MM the UMD has very detailed protections against account sharing, (there are things that make it very obvious, don't want to give details so as not to aid those trying to do it). Bear in mind some people don't actually download to keep, instead they watch the scene direct from the server during the 5 day window (it's not proper streaming but you can open and play the files if you're patient and have a fast enough connection), but doing that, esp if they skip back to watch a favourite bit several times, really racks up the count as each restart is a fresh download count. This would seem to be the digital equivalent of buying a porn mag, enjoying it, then chucking it in a bin, which apparently was very common in London in the 80s - guys got jobs as bin men just so they could collect free perfect condition porn mags that other guys had bought, enjoyed, and chucked rather than have their wives find out they looked at them.

I've got scenes with a crazy ratio of downloads to purchases too. Though some of our scenes are seven or more files, so even just one sale and download means a count of 7.

now see, that makes sense if they are watching it from the server and it is COUNTING how many times they roll back, they start it again. SO, each time they do that it is DOWNLOADING again?
and here is my other question....why did this JUST START a few years ago getting really bad like this?

still, it raises concerns. not only that....i have looked back on my vids from a couple of years back and the amounts of downloads to purchases are not THIS staggering. not even a little bit as much....also, my sales have been NILTCH compared to what they used to be and my quality is better, my mess is bigger, hell, my tits are bigger! lol!! mostly the quality...that is what gets me... is when i first started this was NOT this huge of an issue but now? 10 times the amount of downloads in a DAY? not even a full day??
and i am sure that mm has done his part with the sharing thing. i am just wondering, to put all of us at ease, can he show us this, us store owners? where this same person that bought it downloaded it 10 different times by watching it over and over from the server? bc this would sincerely put my mind at ease.

From a technical POV watching from the server is downloading - while we may think of "saving to disk" and "play in the browser" as different things, as far as the server is concerned it's just a file transfer, it neither knows nor cares what the remote system does with the data once it has it, just that IP address x.y.z.q has requested a file and has the correct username and password to access that file. So every time someone accesses a file, whether just to stream there and then or to save and keep, it counts as a transfer.

LOL re "tits are bigger"! Though fraid that doesn't work for me, I actually prefer small breasts though I know I'm non-typical in that - when I was younger other guys would pass round pictures of topless girls with DD cups and I'd be like "but you can't see her jeans properly, the photographer should have included more of her legs". as far as sharing. ariel and i have been on FUCKING RAMPAGE. DAYS WHERE WE SIT AT OUR COMPUTERS, when we can, AND FIND FUCKERS SHARING OUR SHIT.

anyway, i am getting way off topic. i can understand if they are not downloading it and just restarting it...but it says "downloads" but, i guess that is just the way of saying basically, they are watching it? yeah?
i dont know. i am computer illiterate and i run a store. its sad lol

If I was to venture as guess as to what has changed in the past few years, it would be that more people are using more hand-held devices that may not store downloads for longer than it takes to watch them.

I don't have any statistical evidence, but anecdotally speaking, most of the people I know are now using their phones for everything.

I've had a few of my videos get downloaded multiple times before any sales of the video. So either something is wrong with how downloads/sales are reported or this site just isn't that secure of a platform for selling content.

I always attribute that to the moderator(s) reviewing the video. Maybe not.

Why would anyone purchase a video and not keep it?! Unless it absolutely sucked, I guess?

Not wanting partners or employers to stumble across the files, and having enough money to not care about having to pay again to watch again.
