Hey there. So I love getting messy and use every opportunity I can to but was hoping to ask for some advice on using flour. I have read that flour isn't something that you want to use but I fantasise about using it and it is on the top of my bucket list so I was hoping I could receive some advice on using it to get messy or even some warnings on its use
The big problem with flour is it basically turns into glue, and if you get clumps in your hair, you might in extreme cases have to cut them out. It's the gluten that causes this, so using gluten-free flour can avoid it, but will cost more.

Thank you. I kinda understood about it forming clumps and it being hard to get out which is what attracts me to it but having to cut it out does sound a bit worse than what I was thinking but than k you for the gluten free flour idea
I have used flour in the past and never had any problems getting it out of my hair even !
If you are looking for a similar effect but don't want to risk flour use powered sugar or icing sugar, as soon as you add water it will just turn to liquid so no clumps or gluten. Its great if you cover yourself in syrup followed by icing sugar because it sticks
This comes up a lot. Just experiment. It's confidence and experience. Sounds crazy but never had a problem with flour since we stopped worrying about it and started using it a lot more.
If you've been covered in about 100 gallons of other filth a few bags of flour doesn't make that much more difference when trying to get clean afterwards believe me
I recommend gluten free flour same as dungeonmasterone - or specifically labelled 'cake flour' is very low gluten
failing either of those, coat your hair in something else first like oil, butter/margarine/shortening that kind of thing. I see oilslick suggested cheap conditioner too that sounds good. Quite fun really as you can make it part of your scene or playing
if you can't do any of the above, try not to mix regular flour for too long as mixing develops the gluten proteins. Aim for a slightly lumpy texture like when baking muffins
If you still end up with gluten stuck in your hair, coat with an intensive conditioner and leave it on for about 20 mins, then comb it out starting with a wide toothed comb and moving to a smaller one, then a smaller one, and then rinse

Candy, I quote you and echo this every time it comes up. Not everyone is as lucky as Cinq. I know Jayce and Candy have both had problems with it in the past. Gluten free is a bit more expensive, but worth it if you think you're going to have the hair issues!
MG MewMew said: Flour is really fun if you want real humiliation and getting messy knowing it'll be hard to wash out. It feels really good, too.
Yes the humiliation aspect of it is what draws me to it and the thought of the trouble it would cause does turn me on
ArchNemesis said: Advice on flour: just don't.
It's seriously not worth the hassle. Get the cake batter mix instead.
Yes the hassle does seem like it would be a lot for it but it is a part of what draws me to it and makes me want to try though I do understand it could have some consequences that I hadn't thought of

Lol yes I'm sure if used after other mess though what I like about the idea is using it first and getting it all stuck to myself and feeling it as I think of how I'd get it out and I love the picture

Thank you I'll definitely keep them all in mind and they are good things to know if I do run into some problems as well as solutions that could protect my hair in from the worst case scenarios that I've heard about and they are things I could easily add in to it before getting completely trashed
I LOOOOVE completely destroying my hair and flour is an ingredient that we have found can be really fun, mixed up as a super dense, opaque gunge or dusted/thrown on for aesthetic. Being that some of what I enjoy is putting my locks through the extreme it is always a tad anticlimactic having to plan messes around being able to unmess lol but I've tried in the past to figure out the perfect storm that seems to provide the gluten dreadlock-esque results. Unfortunately however, I have not found any to be reliably consistent; aftercare is always ultimately the needful key.
Rinse warm, not hot, heavily condition, finger comb out what is possible, rinse or soak in vinegar (depending on the damage) to soften what is stuck, wide tooth comb, aggressive leave in oil content conditioner (repeat as needed and you can wash and dry as normal the next day). The vinegar helps make hair nice and shiny after the fact too and...If there is flour guck that ended up dried into your hair, the vinegar will work miracles.
Just do it. Follow some of the tips above - they're all valid and those who've commented speak from experience.
But the best you can do is, as Trouso says, experiment and get confident about what works for you and what you enjoy doing. I love flour precisely because it makes such a mess, but I've never yet had a situation where I've not been able to remove it satisfactorily.
Like others have said I have always found that providing flour gets mixed with plenty of other slop it just mixes in to make a thicker sludge without any great problems to remove it. Love it that you relish the thrill and risk of it being a humiliating nightmare so I think you've just got to go for it!

Hair destruction ftw

Thank you completely destroying myself is one thing that I'm interested in so knowing that flour can be good for that is great to hear and the different ways that you mentioned to use it and tank you for the advice to get it out and if I get to that point it will be very helpful to know

Yes I plan to use other things as well if I were to use flour so it will add to the slop and the risks are something that I fantasise about and the humiliation aspect really turns me on
I've found that mixing latex house paint is a great way to eliminate the clumping problems, and it stretches a gallon of paint into 10 gallons of perfectly colored paste that can be thinned with water to make any consistency you want. It really works, had lots of success with it.

Mr Trouso has absolutely ruined my hair on many an occasion and think there has been flour involved pretty much every time. I've always been able to wash it out.
I often wear a fabric swimming cap and tuck my hair up inside.
I know I look extra weird in the bathroom mirror before I start, since the cap clashes with my outfit. (ever see a PVC maid in a cap!?) But as soon as I start messing I don't notice the cap at all- keeps my hair free from the worst of it without excessively dampening the sensations of dumping gunge over my head.
As an added bonus it keeps the goo out of my ears too!

RE: Icing sugar as a gunge. Tried mixing it once- I found the sugar dilutes VERY easily. So one bag of sugar is pretty much the same amount of gunge you get.
