Summer 2009

We have an outdoor "bar mall" here, and one Sunday afternoon during a heat-wave, they were advertising something called, Models and Throttles, which was supposed to be this biker event. I mean I guess there were some bikers there...I didn't notice THAT many. But they said there'd be super soakers and water balloons, so I figured I'd suit up and take a walk over.

It was pretty crowded but every so often I'd see a young guy or a couple of them who were drenched in tees and shorts. I finally figured out that what was happening is that they'd set up a plastic chair below a balcony and were soaking folks from above. (Hence, in at least one of the fuller pics, I'm looking above.)

You have to remember, it was like 98 degrees on a Sunday afternoon.

I asked the bartender who seemed to have a connection with "the folks above" if they were taking requests. He said "you don't want to get wet in your suit."

"Are you sure?" I replied.

"I'll give you two beers if you do."

So I walked over to the chair, while he used the phone intercom to make arrangements. He smiled and motioned for me to have a seat. The first thing I noticed upon doing so, was that there was a puddle there, creeping into the ass of my pants, but I didn't let on that was happening.

Eventually there was this small smattering of drops from above.

I looked up, frowning with my hands in the air as if to say "Is that all you got?"

A moment later the torrent hit. Completely drenched. The drops that you see in the pics didn't feel like drops. It felt more like a giant wave came down.

I lucked out in that there was a pseudo-professional photographer there to document it, and that he actually kept his word and emailed me the pics later.

One of my favorite WAM moments for sure...oh and I got my two beers.
