It's all about imagination and fantasy for me. I've been posting stories for several years, a couple of which have had 1,500-2,000 views, and they weren't all me, honest!
I remember finding WAM stories on the Internet probably even before coming across WAM pictures, and, despite the saying that "a picture is worth a thousands words", I think a well written story can be so much more than even a sequence of pictures. I think that's because, for me, at least, there's a whole lot more to WAM than just the visual appearance. In particular, some of the "back story" is really important to my enjoyment, and is something I find myself making up even when WAMming in real life. Whether the WAM is expected or unexpected, accepted willingly or reluctantly, ultimately enjoyed or disliked etc etc is all very important. The bottom line is that, for me, it's not just about the mess, it's about what people think about the mess - and a well written story can get that across in a way that photos struggle with. I too have enjoyed writing stories as a way of letting my imagination run wild, and I've started putting a few of them up on here.
Username checks out! I love reading them and like Reiver 2, they were some of the first material I found in the late Nineties that made me realize I wasn't the only one with this interest. The photos I found then weren't as convincing, as they were mostly tame whipped cream stuff, but when I first found a story about a couple falling for each other while wading through a construction site and most of the emphasis was on the physical sensations of the mess, that was proof positive that there were others out there if this story had an audience.
I enjoy reading stories because no matter the gender of the protagonists, there's always a way to visualize it happening, whether the reader is imagining themselves in their place or not. And for the longest time, I kept my WAM experience limited to "textual adventures" but curiosity won out and I had to try it out myself.
For me Sam fiction is my main passion when it comes to wam, I just love the creativity and imagination found in stories that often couldn't be replicated for real or if it could it wouldn't be as good in my opinion, wam fiction is a good way for me to relax and lose myself in a good read, but I also enjoy writing wan fiction stories, just not on umd because I find it too difficult to navigate the story section, as well as the confusing rules and regulations regarding stories being published here and so I publish elsewhere with far fewer and much simpler rules, but I personally think the umd story section is complicated to navigate and difficult to access!
I'm pretty burned out on it at this point, both the writing and reading sides of it. Sometimes I'll find a really good story, but that's getting rarer and rarer, especially since the story section on UMD is a hassle to use and full of AI crap, and there aren't any good alternative platforms anymore.
I think stories will always be important to me. I just love the visualisation it gives me. The story section does seem well hidden away and the functionality is poor (limited images, some of my stories now seem inaccessible, etc). I know at least one write who has given up because you cannot include celebrities anymore.

When I write my stories. I write them on Word first. Once they're finished, I simply copy and paste. No problem at all, except that I lose some of the formatting.

I like to describe some characters by saying they resemble a certain famous person. Might be an effective work around

Ok? That is not only really obvious (especially to someone like me who has been writing WAM fiction on and off for over a decade), it's also totally irrelevant to the points I was trying to make.
To those who publish elsewhere, what platforms do you use?
literotica seems to be the largest erotica site, but the selection of WAM stories there tends to be sparse (though that may be due to the sheer amount of content on literotica and WAM being a pretty niche fetish).

I use a WordPress site which is owned by my husband and is entirely wam focused, however some stories do feature elements of other stuff, the site in question is called gungeplunge, other sites are available but I can't personally recommend most of them, for various reasons!
There are only a handful of authors on there but some of them including myself and my husband are rather prolific authors, so we more than make up for the lack of authors and we have more content than quite a few bigger sites with many more authors than the number of authors on gunge plunge!

I have posted three or four stories on UMD. Most of these were revised and edited version of things I wrote in the past. I too love writing stories but I find they take a lot of effort to do, at least to come up with a well written one and I don't have a lot of spare time these days. I do enjoying reading them however. Some of them would make great audio books! There's. thought...
I have looked that the possibility of using AI to write them. The finished result is very good on initial inspection, but like the AI generated pictures, they lack the soul and human touch. It is hard to describe, a little sterile, like copy of a corporate website. Some may enjoy them...

I have only really seen one of two AI stories that are any good, but I don't think AI could ever completely replace a human author, it just lacks a human touch and is often less creative than a human author, but yes writing can take quite a while, my husband has a story series that he has been working on for four years and still isn't close to finished, but I find it takes anywhere from two hours to a year to write my stories, so yes it can take a lot of time!
My 200 something stories I have always uploaded to wetlookstories.eu are all man written. During the klast 2-3 years I have used AI for improving my English skills but not for creating a story.
Like others already mentioned, AI generated stories lacks the soul - Maybe in 10 years it is different ....?

Go for it, I was hesitant before writing my first story, but I have never regretted it and regularly write stories now, I guess the best piece of advice I can give is write what you want to write, not what people tell you to write, maybe consider a more experienced author to mentor you initially and don't be afraid of writing, most people take a while to get good at writing and nobody is expecting a perfect story for the first time you write, I know I'm not perfect at writing but I am improving, but my number one rule is have fun with it, good luck with the writing!
As mentioned several times earlier in this discussion, the stories (and blog) section is rather hard to find on UMD.
I for myself discovered it only recently, at first i scanned mostly the main page with the daily updates. I think it would be good if stories/blogs would be easier to find.
In my opinion, the blogs might be appreciated by newbies on UMD, if they can read other's experiences with WAM, see they are not the only one with this kink or get inspiration. Could also be an easier start for actively participating in the community (other than lurking around/enjoying the scene, which is also fine of course). Writing down some personal stuff/experience in a blog could have a lower threshold to get over, compared to starting a discussion in one of the forums/groups if the main goal of sharing/posting is not raising a question or getting other's thoughts/opinions.
