Costco is a large membership retailer, like a Sam's Club or BJs. You need a membership, but everything is generally in large sizes.
I'm not getting my hopes up, but I may have an offer for a roomie for the trip. IF I can find a way to round up the asinine cost of a flight out there.

I started looking at flights and hotels separately, still got a Skyscanner report watching the price of London - Vegas return flights, it's been bumping up and down between £400 to £500 per person. Cheap hotels are available, but as Friday is coming with me, plus Vegas is one of those "trip of a lifetime" destinations, I wanted to make sure we stay somewhere nice - looked at package deals and realised that for the kind of hotel I wanted the price of a combined deal was a bit cheaper. Both Lastminute and Expedia had good deals. In our case there's one change on the way out (at Seattle) and a direct flight on the way back, Virgin Atlantic both ways. Will be my second trip to the States but first to Vegas, though I do know people with business out there.
So basically it depends on what kind of hotel you want - for a fancier place, package deal probably best, for somewhere cheaper it might make more sense to book separately.

For those who want to stock up on messy supplies, Google Maps says there are no fewer than 3 Smart & Final locations in the suburban Vegas area.
For those of you not from the West Coast, these places are a mecca for WAMmers - they have bulk/Costco-sized goods with absolutely no membership requirement; you just walk in and buy like a regular store. There are two kinds of Smart & Final stores - the regular ones and the "Extra." The "Extra" are more like regular supermarkets with a wider variety of stuff and a greater amount of "regular-sized" items. However, even the 'Extra' locations stock the large-sized goods. They have condiments, syrup, sauces, pudding, etc. in gallon-sized containers and their house brand ("First Street") is pretty inexpensive. Highly recommended.

Wish I could go, I have been around since the beginning.. (I went by Vlad back then).. Just a lurker now and got married and such. Having a kid in April, so no way to make it out there. I wish you all luck in Vegas (Ceasar's is my favorite pit for Craps, Paris is a good time too). I hope to see a lot of pics and videos!
BTW, I got to vegas at lat once a year for a certain security conference in August. If you are going to head or stay on the strip instead of downtown and want some tips, just message me. I am not on here a lot but I can give you some good ideas on some cool things to do.

Damn right! I'll be renting a pavilion at the Golden Nugget, and anybody who wants to come, can come. There are a couple of pools there (I think a day pass is $20). I doubt that there'd be any rule against wearing your clothes in!
Looks like all the booking sites are collecting up front, or advise they are due at check in. ( daily resort fee) . Im going to try to get there Friday or Saturday depending on flights

What's the difference between a meetup and a convention?
I've been to scifi/fantasy/cosplay conventions, and they melted my face. So, what if there was a gunge-centric convention?
I looked over the Adult Entertainment Expo, (that's a thing) and that gave me some ideas for convention events that weren't just "This person gets splattered!", which, if I were to organize a GungeCon, is the only thing I could think of.

For everyone worried about a "shortage" of WAM supplies you can calm down. I assure you there are plenty of grocery stores including Walmart, Costco and Sam's Club for those of you who would like some familiarity. Contrary to popular belief Las Vegas is an actual city.
Sorry if that came across a bit sarcastic but as a Vegas local I think it's weird that people think everyone lives and works and does everything else in a casinos.

Costco Business Center is just on the other side of the 15 from downtown and they'll have enough supplies and then some.

All sorted now with my visa and just looking for a decent deal on a flight and hotel combo (actually found a good one already for a flight and stay in the Golden Nugget so will see you guys there )

A lot of friendly people will be there and will reach out to ya if you look a bit nervous or seperate from the group! I promise I'll reach out and chill with ya! As long as you aren't soooo far away I don't realize you are with the umd group... that could be a problem haha!

But seriously, everyone I've know who's been super nervous about Splunches have ended up really happy they gathered the courage to go and none of them regret it. Have you tried spirit airlines?
Edit: spirit airlines flies into Vegas. That's the cheapest route if you just bring one carry on bag!! I've found round trips from New Orleans for $185! Just waiting on that ole tax return! Woohoo!

Me too, I know you've been wanting to see the US.
Maria hooked me up with a site where I was able to find tickets for 1/3 the cost of my usual airline that I'm a member with. If anyone's thinking they can't come because of airfare, please at least give this a look first. This has actually made this trip FEASIBLE for me, and I live off disability.
I hope anyone that's really wanting to come is able to find a way. Don't just give up though, ask for advice on the things that are keeping you. Got kids, see if grandparents are up for a little visit. Lodgings, see if some people you are comfortable with will share some accommodations. Air BnB is a great resource for groups.
So, I'm booking this as soon as I can. Looking like I might see y'all after all!
