I get this golden syrup. Much easier to pour (although every now and again the container will arrive cracked at the base and have to be stored upside down)
I think the processing conditions are probably fine but the transport conditions (less clean tanks &c) might not be and the product could easily pick up impurities at this stage. Also animal molasses is likely to be beet rather than cane sugar molasses, so taste as well as smell will be much less palatable.
Probably fine to get messy in but avoid consumption! As others have said, there are deals on quantity purchasing that make "horse molasses" an inferior option unless the additional humiliation factor is a plus for you.
