For me (speaking as an ex-producer)...it depends upon the type of sight gag being performed....for pushing a pie in the face, "fluffy" (or "thick and soft") is preferred, but for throwing, a sloppy pie makes for a better "impact statement" , that is, a really messy hit and aftermath. ...this is not the same as a "runny" pie, where in the cream has melted to the point of becoming a liquid (runny pies iare what happens when you pre-make all your pies before the shoot and the last few become runny due to them sitting out longer)...otherwise, you might as well just do slimings (as far as visual look goes).
Somewhere in between! Not too fluffy and not too runny. I think cool whip is pretty close to perfect for this reason; it has a fluffy feeling, especially if you whip it up before you put it into the crust, yet it covers and stick well, splatters, and looks and feels quite sloppy
I like the splatter of sloppy but I like the fluffy cause i love seeing tons of stuff weighing down on the poor soul who is under neath! Especially matting down their hair, BUT my gf just saw a video of sloppy liquid splatter and asked for that so I'm going to have to make the next round only sloppy!
I like both fluffy and sloppy pies, but definitely prefer sloppy pies!! Fluffy pies are great for maximum coverage and feel great being pied with them as well, but sloppy pies have the look I am going for
Sloppy definitely shouldn't be runny though which is why I think pies topped with Cool Whip that has been mixed up with some frosting over a pie crust filled with a pudding or colorful fruit filling is the best!! This allows most of the pie filling and cream to still stick to the face of the girl being pied but allows the pie mess to be slowly collect on her body over time as well allowing us to still see her face under all the pie mess while ensuring that the rest of the pie cream is still used to get the rest of her as messy as possible A bunch of sloppy pies to get the girl really messy to start, and then finish with a few fluffy pies for total coverage under a huge pile of pie mess would be amazing
Just a thought that I don't think I have mentioned before in regards to types of pies but realized when doing my own sessions in case anyone is interested...I've noticed that too much Cool Whip and frosting topping on a single pie (I didn't think too much would ever be a problem either ) causes it to not stick as well. A mountain of Cool Whip topping (like 2 - 8oz containers with some frosting added per single pie) causes it to fall out the sides of the pie when smooshing, and it stays in large globs that tend to be too heavy to stick to the face causing them to fall off and carry a lot of the pie mess with it, which doesn't make for great coverage (Although it does create an awesome pile of pie mess to play with afterwards if that is what you are going for ). It seems like a single 8 oz container with some frosting mixed in makes for better pie coverage and sloppy, creamy, stickiness.
Generally I prefer fluffier pies that stick and don't get runny or melty - in the MG world, the pies that were used for most of the early JustPieMe sessions are pretty much perfect for my tastes..,
