Is there a way of having scenes on a wish list for purchasing later?
I've done "save for later" in the basket but it's doesn't seem to sync across devices. If I log in somewhere else I just have an empty basket. Or if I clear browser history it all disappears too.
I've resorted to liking the scene and using that as my list but it just feels a bit wrong having to unlike the scene after purchase.
Just be great for when you don't want to forget about a scene but can't spend the money at that particular time.
Would bookmarking each scene into a Wish List folder work? Bookmarks should be synced if you use the same browser and signed into the browser between devices. You would need to remove the bookmark after purchasing it.
I was considering bookmarking scenes that I have purchased. It is becoming difficult to remember them all. If I am viewing a scene that is bookmarked, it would mean that I have already purchased it.

I like this approach. Despite being a tech-inclined fella who even understands database normalization to some degree, and yet I also suffer from personal data organization issues. When it comes to storage and archiving material Ive shot, and then stuff that's been through editing, that's a whole other chore!

The actual shopping basket is cookie-based, which means it's unique to each device you use to access UMD and doesn't transfer between devices. MM has it set that way so that people who aren't signed in or don't (yet) have accounts can still build up a cart if they want to.
Having a wish list certainly would be a boon, and probably something worth doing in the DB (so not cookie/device dependent), as an extra service that registered users can use.

Will flag this thread to MM for a response.
Yeah I find myself browsing a lot on my phone but typically do the purchasing on my Mac as then I'm good to go straight with the downloading. I know downloading is easier on mobile devices now but I still prefer to do it desktop based as it's there to move around & add to all my backups etc.
Liking the scene works ok but I don't really wanna un-like it after purchase.
Thanks for this thread. The cart system definitely has some refinement in its future.
Carts are cookie-based, like DM1 said, so that people can just get to shopping without being nagged to create an account or sign in first.
Once you have a UMD account, carts are still cookie-based, but every single time you add or delete an item, UMD remembers that version of your cart in an archive associated with your account.
If you happen to log in with a new device, UMD will populate your cart cookies with whatever was your last stored cart from the archive.
But what if you started shopping on the new device, then sign in, and your UMD account has already stored a past cart? In this case, UMD will NOT populate your cart with what was stored, and the cart you had just been shopping with will be preserved.
Your cart and your Save for Later items are both technically part of the same cart, and are all handled together according to the logic rules above. So if you've started shopping and then log in, any past Save for Later items will be gone. Maybe I should separate the two carts so that your Save for Later is preserved if you don't have a new list there? Or maybe nag the user upon login and ask if all the carts should be merged.
I'll have to think about all this! By the way, cookies on UMD generally do not expire. You should be able to come back to UMD 5 years from now and still have the same cart and everything.

Generally I don't add anything to the cart unless I'm logged in anyway.
But if I create a cart on my phone and then log in on my Mac it doesn't seem to be there from the archive you mention, is that because I haven't logged out on my phone?
I tend to stay logged in on the phone, I may close the tab but if I don't clear any settings when I type the url it loads with me logged in.

If you're not logged in with your phone while you're shopping, then your cart won't be saved with your UMD account, so it won't populate when you log in somewhere else.
If you are logged in with your phone while shopping, then you turn around and log in with your Mac, that same cart should be populated immediately on your Mac. That is, unless you *already* had another cart or wishlist on that Mac, in which case it will not be replaced when you log in.
I do see a possible bug with my system, in that your cart is only stored to DB when you hit the actual cart or checkout page (for efficiency). For more accuracy it really should be updated every time you add or delete an item. I'm considering making this change in the weeks ahead.

That's a good idea. I'll think about how to implement such a thing... already considering a way to notify you of mentions. Thanks.

I did try this on the last purchase I made and it did all work like you say so thanks for that.

Maybe I should rename it from "Save for Later" to "Wish List" They're the same exact thing far as I know, unless there's some other functionality I need to add?

No, because it's cookie based and not DB based, it has all the same problems the shopping cart has. Undersood why those are necessary for the cart, so non-logged-in users can queue stuff up to buy, but a wish list would be much better if:
1. It was DB based and an extra feature for logged in users. 2. Because of 1, it's fully cross-device whenever a user logs in regardless of device. 3. It's permanent. I know the cookie ones are meant to be but either cookie expiry or browser policy does cause them to just disappear after a while, has happened to me many times, and that's without ever clearing cookies or cache. A DB based per-user wish list of scenes would never expire.
On top of that, I think the idea of Amazon-style would be that you could make a wish-list public so other people can buy you items on it as gifts. Seems a bit unlikely, but you never know!

Don't rename!!! Save for Later and Wishlist are not the same thing at all!
Amazon's Save for Later implementation is similar to UMD's -- if an item is in your cart, but you change your mind at the last minute, you choose Save for Later and the item is moved to an anteroom -- but that is totally unrelated to their Wishlist feature. I have 18 different Amazon wishlists going at once for different projects, holidays, family members, work vs. home, etc. It's an organizational tool that, as @DungeonMasterOne notes, is fully cross-device. It would be great for segregating videos I want to purchase into categories based on substance, model, personal priority, producer, price, etc.
I think it would be really helpful here, and I've wished for that feature for YEARS.
(Personally, I'd never use the public/private/shared wishlist on UMD, but others may.)
