It took me more than a few years of searching different variations of 'messy paint porn' to find this place and I'm wondering how long it took everyone else to get here and how - especially my fellow paint folks I really think this place could be a lot more popular if it showed up in any search results
Well let's see. I almost certainly found it on a search engine. Probably not Yahoo!; might have been Altavista. Or Hotbot. Lycos was always good for finding sites that aren't indexed by the other two. Or perhaps it was Excite, although they didn't seem to update their crawling index quite as often.
Many moons ago when there was alot of lad mags around (Loaded, Nuts, Zoo etc.) There was a magazine called XNet. This was a computer magazine that was interwoven with topless models (as you do). In the back of the magazine was a directory of websites. In it was a listing for UMD.
This same mag had a listing for (the much missed Rob Blaine) Messy Fun. I always remember the description for this site in the mag as: Do you like to see Gorgeous women emptying the contains of the fridge on themselves.

I also pre-date UMD.
Hotbot always got me good results. Back in the day there was a university hosted 'home page' (think tumblr, but you had to build the whole thing from scratch) called "Gunge in the UK" that was always near the top results and it was simply descriptions of different UK tv shows that had gunge in them. Just words, but clearly written by an enthusiast. First confirmation that I wasn't alone.
I must have found UMD via one of the 'Web rings' (a group of sites where each member of the group would link to another two members of the group).
I think I got here from ECGunge back in the day when it was still a thing. It was a little too intense for my younger self, but I've grown to love it and the community that has grown around it over the years.

Only made an account recently though.
Same, remember it just being one of the first when searching in the mid to late 2000s. Lurked for a while before I saw something I just had to buy. Been back & forth over the years but recently has been my most active ever.
I've been into gunge since the 80s but just recently found this site via google. I was trying to find a place where new WAM material was being posted and found this site where people also talked about slime. I couldn't sign up quick enough.
I don't remember exactly- I think it was either through MW or WamBabes. I think I may have literally searched "maxi dress gunge" on Google and it came up.
There used to be websites that simply provided links to other sites with a common theme. I think Shokolada ran one way back in the day. I have probably been on this site (lurking for a long time) since it started. It used to be like those other sites-- it provided links to WAM websites. It was the Ultimate Messy Directory or UMD. The forum eventually took precedence over the links.
I was already aware of the on-line wam community in 98 when Derek registered the umd.net domain name and launched the original version, a plain white page with blue text links to the 12 or so wam-dedicated websites (in some cases just single pages) that existed back then. At a guess he posted about it in one or more of the mailing lists that existed, either that or I followed a link from someone else's "Links" page that led here. Back then if you had a website it was normal to have a Links page that linked to other sites about the same subject, so everyone helped everyone else get found.
Who else remembers searching for things on AltaVista?
Been a member since this page. First arrived back in the 90s. I can't remember how I found it, but I'm sure it was late at night in my bedroom, on my Compaq Presario, with a 14.4kb modem hoping that aol would stay connected
I honestly don't remember...this was ages ago...way before I was of age and I had to lie when I came onto this site
It must have been through random internet searches. I remember knowing I was into seeing girls getting slimed and wet because of TV, and when the internet came around finding videos on the web (I think youtube was a thing back then...) and also sites like Gungegirls and Messyfun was just mind blowing, and coming up with what I was using my parents credit card for was an adventure all in itself.
I'd guess I probably did various searches on Yahoo! (remember Yahoo!? I still have their e-mail lol) and came across the site and then found myself saying "Holy shit!" all over again.
I honestly can't pinpoint the exact year, but it could have been in 2011 when I was 18 or a bit later. I think it was a culmination of google searching of women covered in chocolate or something. All I know is that I stumbled across Messygirl's content, particularly that of women covered in black grease. This blew my mind at the time because I had fantasized about women getting messy in black substances (besides mud) even before I knew what fetishes/kinks were, and I remember thinking I was some sort of freak. I must have still felt like a freak at the time, because I think I purchased Vicky's chocolate bath or something and then immediately deleted it after one watch out of guilt and shame. I came back to this site around 2019/early 2020 upon spotting Jayce's mud content and then made an account.
I believe it was soon after I convinced my parents to sign up for AOL back in the days of Dial Up and CD installations via snail-mail. I knew what I liked but had never had the opportunity to go thumbing through the restricted section by myself. I believe I stumbled upon this site via "The WAM Ring"
There was one site I recall but can't remember it's specific Name - it was a site full of just VIDEO Clips of messy moments (We're talking years before YouTube) - I think it was something like WAMCat, a literal catalog of WAM. - Had Pie in the Face Clips from Gran Casino- Haven't thought about that in more than 20 years...
I forgot what search terms I used, but back in circa the year 2000, I found the MessyFun website. That's how I knew I wasn't alone with this crazy kink. If memory serves me correctly, at the bottom of the MessyFun main page was a link to the UMD.
I found it in 2016 through FetLife. I was still so green, I had no clue what a fetish was and most of my life I had stayed offline so I had no clue how to navigate any of this. So this is my origin story:
In 2013 I had a friend who started domming again after years of not doing it and I was fascinated by it. She was on this website FetLife and I asked her what a fetish was and she was like, "Everything is a fetish, people get turned on by anything and everything, just type any word into the search and you'll find a fetish for it." I ran home and immediately looked up "pie in the face" and there were all these profiles of people into it. I was living in Denver at the time and couldn't find anyone local and FetLife was so BDSM focused I barely used it. Then I decided I really wanted to meet people like me, so I started reaching out to the people on there who were into it. PieWriter was like, the second person I talked to and he immediately told me to come to UMD. Then every other wammer there kept telling me this was a much better community for our fetish and it absolutely was and still is! I finally came here in 2016 and I was completely blown away. I felt like I had finally come home, and I've been here ever since
Actually UMD found us. Back in 1997 a young college graduate asked if we would be interested having our site on something he was starting up called the Ultimate Messy Directory.
I believe someone commented about the UMD on a youtube video i watched which was slapstickstuff compilation videos set to music (Prince and Robbie Williams for some reason). Great way of finding this site.
It's been so long now but I'm pretty sure I followed a link from Messy Fun or Mud Puddle Visuals. Those two sites along with Messy girl were like my holy trinity of Wam sites back in the late 90's early 2000's then I ended up here.

Same for me...i remember looking for wetlook sites through a search engine called "Netscapes." That was back in 1999. I found Doctor Splash's website and the more i kept looking for mud wrestling I came up on UMD...lurked here for a while then joined
