+1 for backblaze. They are very reputable in the IT industry and post quarterly disk failure information too, (probably should declare that I use them for work and personal backups as part of a full backup system). I always suggest a minimum of 1 offline (local USB HDD is best for most users, unless you have a tape drive) and a reliable cloud backup of anything you aren't happy to lose.

I've used backblaze personally for a good few years and never had an issue, albeit never had to do a full restore UK wise, but know american people who have used their disk restore service and really rate it.

Couldn't spot anything from a quick search for files starting with T but could have something else in the file name. This folder has a thousand or so clips so it may take a little time to hunt for something that fits the description. I'll have a proper look through a wider search and let you know.

It's one of the rare ones actually, most of his other clips that you see were uploaded without his permission. He would put different music over each "dub" of his material that he traded so he knew which A-hole was responsible when something leaked. (Pretty clever considering.)

In regard to videos that never were, I remember Mudbunny had a pack of photos from "unreleased videos" that had her in a tutu, preparing sloppy pies, putting them on a chair, and it looked kinda like she hid a buttplug in one of 'em, lol. To my knowledge never released, and the loss of her from the scene in general was very sad.

Unfortunately, certain operating system builders have decided that we are all too stupid to be trusted with that critical information, so you specifically have to ask. This info is for the benefit of the non-sysadmins among us.

All modern disks support the SMART disk reporting system. The free and open source utility "smartmontools" will show you the relative health of the disk. The key fields to watch are Reallocated_Sector_Ct and Offline_Uncorrectable. Ideally, the former should be zero but single or double digits generally aren't a problem. The latter should normally be zero. If it's not, then the drive is currently trying to fix something which might be a disk surface issue or possibly a drive or OS software glitch. If it later goes back to zero, the drive fixed itself and the reallocated sectors field will probably increment to a higher number.

Secondary considerations are the Temperature_Celsius (particularly the min/max) and Power_On_Hours fields. In a pizza box server or laptop, temps are closely regulated and drives tend to run between 28 and 35-ish. In a workstation/desktop type machine, you want to watch this and if it regularly goes over 40, you have cooling problems. Install some better fans. At Vidown/TheMothership, our RAID and onboard backup drives are running 24/7 and my policy is that a primary drive can only have about 30k hours on it. That's just over 3 years, which is usually time for an OS refresh anyway. The main drive gets replaced with a new one and relocated to a RAID mirror or backup slot. At about 50k, all drives get erased and recycled. It's just not worth the risk in commercial service. I do have some tertiary personal backup drives pushing 100k, but they don't get plugged in regularly anymore.

Smartmontools is a standard default utility with most Linux systems and can probably be installed on Macs too if they don't come with it. There's a version for Windows as well. It's a command line tool on all platforms. On Windows, there is also the free GUI program CrystalDiskInfo that shows most of the same info.

Install one of these and create a calendar reminder to check all your drives every week or month.. You can thank me later when you DON"T lose everything

There are likely people out there with a pile of 1mb hard drives with a good percentage of the galleries in storage, but the odds of a) good data retention in a 25+ yr-old floppy b) finding a drive to read them, let alone the crate c) investing the hellish amount of time to retrieve them would make that a considerable non-starter.

A good sized bowl of shelled eggs poured into the neckline of a braless girl's blouse should do it for me. Followe by another over her head of course.
