Since the big HotwamHD post, I downloaded the attached image to my phone and have shown it to several non-wammers who agreed that it was pretty hot. For me, this picture is just the right blend of kinky, being both overtly sexy and remaining true to the nature of the fetish without being too 'weird' for mainstream appreciation. Ok, she's got her head submerged in custard, but 'normal' people are able to see that as a bit of fun and focus on her custard covered butt and breasts and get that it's sexy.
What pictures do you use to show our fetish to the mainstream? Which WAM pictures do you know people who are not into this fetish would still think is sexy?
I realised from the wording of my post above that it might sound like I'm not a Wammer and I think everyone here is weird - just wanted to spell out that is NOT the case!!! This is very much my fetish, and I'm just considering what aspects of it might still 'work' for other people who are open minded but not necessarily into WAM.
I think sometimes the pictures that look a bit artistic can also work well... ..that said, this picture of Liz which I love got the thumbs down from my 'mainstream' friends... ... I think they just thought 'Avatar'...!
Most people will think a picture of a hot girl is hot whether she's covered in custard or not. Doesn't necessarily mean they're open to the idea of WAM.
A lot of men find two girls mud wrestling hot but show them a WAM video of a girl wallowing in the mud they'd think it was weird.

I think non-fetishists see wam as a cute, literal expression of "being naughty and dirty" which is why it flies for them. But once they understand that there is a real fetish angle to it, that's when it gets a bit weird for them. People enjoy the same thing for many different reasons.

I guess that's true. I certainly agree that people get weirded out when they realise how far the fetish extends.
I suppose I'm just interested in what is 'accepted' by the masses, and the occasions when one of us shows someone a picture and says "This is what I'm into..." and the other person says "Oh, not personally my thing, but I can see why you like that" as opposed to "Sitting on cakes!? You are fucking odd!"
I imagine it's entirely subjective and depends who you talk to, but thought it'd make for an interesting post!
I suspect this is the problem that anyone with non-vanilla sexuality has when trying to explain their thing: "No, not that, this!" We have enough trouble agreeing amongst ourselves--clothed or nude? facial coverage, yes or no?--that the nuances can be awfully hard for an outsider to grasp.
That's not to say we shouldn't try, however. In the few cases where I've really tried to describe my interest in WAM to others, I've started with things in pop culture that are recognizable without being "FETISH" (i.e., scary): pie fights and mud wrestling. Messmaster is right, there is still a leap from "hey, this is really fun" to "this is specifically what turns me on," but I no longer feel WAM is any weirder than any of the other things people are into. Everyone has their thing.
If I was trying to explain WAM to an outsider, I'd probably start with fully clothed wetlook - most straight vanilla people can see the attraction of a pretty girl soaking wet in a satin ballgown, or drenched in jeans and a shirt, because it crosses over into a lot of mainstream entertainment. If I wanted to go any further, next thing I'd bring in would be mudlarking, as again, most people can see the fun aspect of just completely letting go and throwing themselves, fully clothed, into sloppy mud and sliding about on a riverbank. Plus every single one of our people who has done it has said they enjoyed the mud shoots more than any of our other styles.
I'd only start to bring in the custard-down-the-trousers type stuff once I was sure the other person was genuinely interested though, as that's definitely getting more fetishy and further away from things that non-wam people can easily relate to. Though even there most people can relate to the kind of scene where two people throw dice or pick cards, and the loser then has to submit to some kind of messy forfeit, because again that's close to what happens in a lot of gameshows.
Note almost all of these are situation based though, it's the concept of what will happen that's being discussed, as opposed to a single image.
I'd just point them to a scene from "Hercules" where the one woman sees a mud pit and with a squeal of delight just jumps in and wallows. Sensual and sexy.
As an aspiring fetish photographer I would start out by promoting artistic wam photos which could involve anything from two girls drizzling caramel and chocolate sauce over each other or a combined bdsm/wam scene where a mistress is covering her slave with custard whilst she is tied to a bed or chair Everyone who sees it might think either 'yeah that looks hot I wouldn't mind trying it' or 'it's kinky but still a little weird and gross'
If I was to have the opportunity to do a commercial shoot in the future I would promote wam or implied wam as the main creative aspect of my work without it coming across as being too risque
Below are a few pics that I find inspiring (not mine)
This clip from the mindlessly trashy MTV show Elimadate is just one of many subtly sexual mainstream references to WAM. At the end of the clip the guy talks about how hot it was sliding back and forth with women in pudding:
For most people, getting messy is FUN when it's the right time and place. There's a tactile pleasure. Sex is also messy and tactile. Just under the surface, there's a clear connection between the two. There's also the freedom of letting go and acting crazy.
The one sticking point that may hold some people back is a morality issue surrounding wasting food. On one level, clips like the one above are gigantic displays of decadence.
My dream, someday, is to have some kind of event in a big city where ordinary people come for an evening and take pleasure in Sploshing with each other.
