I have a vague pie memory from childhood. As I recall it was on the Phil Donahue talk show. There was a guest who was making the point that most people would like to take a pie in the face. Phil got a pie and asked his audience if anyone there would be willing to take a pie. A number of people raised their hands. He chose a woman who seemed to me to be late middle age and pied her. Does anyone else recall this? It is really hard to track down daytime talk shows because there were so many of them.
Mention it if you recall this. Also use this thread for your own vague pie memories if you have them.
In the 70s I seem to remember a sporting event, a couple laps around a track, while the participants were being fired upon by a fire hose shooting foam. I seem to remember soupy sales being involved. That was one of my first experience w wam and I don't even know if it really happened.

There was a TV show called "Almost Anything Goes" in the mid-seventies.
One of the events was called The Fox Hunt and it involved girls in a fox costume being sprayed by foam from a fire hose. I can't remember how the game work, I think the person using the hose was blindfolded and had someone coaching them and the fox costume girls had to run an obstacle course or something.
Here's a clip not involving mess, but it might jog some memories.
It feels like the 1970s were... if not the greatest time for pie scenes (and mud wrestling too)... at least the time with the MOST amount of scenes that were NOT captured for posterity. (For obvious reasons, but still.)
Slowly these clips are surfacing, but I still feel like a good 80% of the pie scenes from like 1973-1979 have never shown up within this community. (Some might be online now, but no one's found them yet.) The Captain & Tanille clips finally showed (but not the Charo pieing).... All the Donny & Marie stuff (mostly good news for male WAMmers)... Some Sesame Street & Electric Company clips (but not remotely all)... And so on and so on.
I know as a kid it seemed like a random pie hit could happen on any program, especially variety shows (which were as numerous as reality shows today) and game shows. I think I even remember a pieing in the middle of an NFL game?? (It was a halftime thing, and both participants were men, and that's literally all I got.) Or an ad for some comedian's TV special (not a regular series, and I don't remember the comedian, although he was male): The TV Guide listing was a picture of him with a bar of soap in his mouth... and then the preview during commercials had a bit where he pops his head out from behind a tree, and then just gets plastered with flying pies.
Literally, it felt like I would see random stuff like this EVERY TIME I turned on the TV. Weird, crazy times. Undoubtedly the reason I developed this fetish.
My favourite has to be Blue Peter in the '70s with John Noaks being shown how to make a pie that had Splatterbility and Stickability by a special guess.
Once the pie was complete John pied the guest and it did indeed give good coverage. Peter then appeared and pied John, then Valerie appeared and pied Peter. It was a fun scene and I would love to see it again. I did wish Valerie got hit though.
Mine is a bit more recent than the 1970s. It was on the Jenny Jones show, and involved a woman wanting to be noticed by her crush. So Jenny spun a wheel or something, and it aired a clip of a woman pouring milk over her head and face, which the first woman had to replicate.

I used to have it on tape, but lost it.
I know EXACTLY the clip you mean! When Jenny Jones said what the woman on stage would have to do they cut to the clip of a woman with dark blonde hair, wearing casual clothes, standing in a grocery store begin pouring a plastic jug of milk just as you said. It was done in slow motion with club music playing too!
I'm sure I still have it on a compilation tape somewhere because I watched it a lot! (We've all got some of these self-made WAM tapes from the 90's, right?) Seeing the girl on stage that had milk poured over her head was not nearly as good (I think she covered her face too) and she even said "it's powdered milk" when part of it dumped out dry on her hair.

Yes! I am glad someone else remembers this as well! I agree, the first woman had much better coverage.
I always wondered what the set up was for the woman in the grocery store. Was it from a previous episode perhaps? Was there more footage somewhere? Ah, memories.
I've been meaning to post about this, so this is a good opportunity to. I remember seeing a scene that took place in a cafeteria or a diner. Someone buys a pie from behind the counter & prepares to throw it at someone else. Then, the woman behind the counter says something along the lines of, "Oh no you don't, those are *eating* pies... *throwing* pies cost extra." Then, they hand her a wad of extra bills & splat whoever they were about to. I believe a pie fight breaks out, & the woman behind the counter gets hit herself, but is pleased with all the "throwing pie" money she's making. I can't remember for the life of me if it was on Nickelodeon, Disney, or even from some thing like "Family Matters" on ABC or a similar show on a similar network. The woman behind the counter is a Black woman in my memory. Certain other food fight scenes on youtube from "Family Matters" certainly have a similar cafeteria set with a glass case next to the counter like the one I remember. Does this ring any bells for anyone? I've been dying to revisit this scene.
I had a memory of a Price is Right showcase from the early 80s or around then. There was a Rome theme and at one point two of the models were racing in chariots. They were kind of fucking with each other and it ended with one of the models pieing the other. Then the pied model revealed the brand new car prize (last & biggest prize) with pie still covering her face.
I remembered it being amazing.
Then it resurfaced a couple years back and I finally got to see it again. It was incredibly lame. The coverage was non-existent almost, a really bad hit. Go figure.
I also remember watching this old show which was kind of a knock off of the Celebrity Bloopers show with Ed McMahon and Dick Clark. I can't recall the name, I'm looking it up and it might have been Foul-Ups, Bleeps and Blunders.
This show had one segment, which has resurfaced, where a cute wife gets a pie in the face. There was another, which I haven't seen since and at the time I was playing on the old apple 2 computer with the TV on beside me, but the guest was this hot Spanish lady who wore fruit on her head. One of her Blunder segments had her falling into a giant vat of something, the TV I was watching was old and black and white, full of static, but it was either cream or maybe bubbles. She emerged completely covered and it seems like the camera just lingered on her there for several seconds with fake laugh track laughter going on. If it was bubbles, meh, but if it was shaving cream or something, I'd love to see it again.
Actually, I'd love to see it regardless -- to either see a good moment or to at least close the book on this and know it was just my memory inflating an old scene, as was the case with the Price is Right.

Gotta disagree here. I think there are a lot more pie scenes from the late 50s through late 60s that are missing in action. (For obvious reasons, of course, like only a few select people -- most famously, Bob "Autofocus" Crane -- had VHS recorders until the mid-70s.)
What clips am I talking about? Well I'm too young to have seen any of these, but I've heard tell of them through things like Hurley Coward's Lost Clips list:
Ann Margret was pied on one of her TV specials c. 1969-70 Debbie Reynolds was pied on her own sitcom, c. 1969 Barbara Feldon was pied somewhere Debra Paget was pied on an early 60's show Juliet Prouse was pied on an early 60's show
And those are just the celebrity names I remember off the top of my head. I also recall reading that there were pie fights on both the Steve Allen show and the Jonathan Winters show. And in a skit his own show, Dean Martin pied one of the "gold-digger" women while the two of them were talking in bed. Plus there were apparently MANY pieings of attractive women on the Ernie Kovacs show, and we only have maybe 3 of those in our hot little hands. Ernie's lovely wife Edie Adams is said to have received multiple pies in the face, for instance, and none of those clips are circulating. (There is a recreation of one of her pieings in a made-for-TV movie about Kovacs' life from the late 70s or early 80s.)
Here are pics of some of the women we know of who got pied on TV in this era (almost all of them are named above) where we are missing the video.
Disclaimers: The two shown below who aren't named above are Jolene Brand and Barbara Loden, both pied multiple times on Kovacs. I believe there is one clip of each of them getting pied circulating, but the rest are all missing. Apparently the Ann-Margret clip is -- or at least might be -- circulating among hardcore Ann-Margret fans. Years ago there were low-res videos for sale of her various TV specials for $25-$30 apiece. Someone from here told me a specific one had the pie scene, but for various reasons, it kind of seemed like he didn't know what he was talking about.
Hmm, I suppose there's a higher percentage of 1950s-1960s clips missing, but a lot of those I kinda resign myself to being completely "lost." Like the Steve Allen ones... A lot of those tapes got erased (that was the standard back then) and even Allen before his death confirmed he no longer had copies. So never say never, but the chances of many of those clips surfacing are remote. Ditto the Ernie Kovacs stuff and others.
But all the clips from the late 1960s on SHOULD be in someone's possession. I guess that's the difference. The rights owners COULD release this stuff into the wild, they're just choosing not to. (Like the C&T DVD collection leaving out the Charo pieing for some reason, while including basically all the male celeb ones.) But at least there's still a good chance that many of those clips will surface... as opposed to many 1950s clips which are probably gone for good.
Also, I don't put too much stock in Hurley's "Lost Clips" list anymore, as one of his most promising entries turned out to be completely debunked. (1980s Suzanne Somers variety special, aboard a military ship, where she takes several pies, and special guest Marie Osmond gets thrown face-first into a giant pie similar to Donny's 1970s scene.) WAMTEC Mark eventually tracked down the special in question... and there were no pie scenes at all. Not saying these 1950s scenes aren't legit, but sometimes memories are suspect... and occasionally (probably in the Suzanne Somers case) a "respected member" just made some shit up.
As long as we're sharing... John Byner was involved in some quickie either on his "Bizarre" show or a late 70's special. There's a lady on one side of him wearing a shiny dress or something eye catching, and a guy in a suit or tux on his other side. He says something like, "This is not comedy," and pies the lady in the stomach. Then he says "THIS is comedy," and pies the guy in the face. Of course, it would be more notable if it was the other way around, but it made enough of an impression on my young wammer self that I've looked for it off and on for years without success.
Rich, you would have enjoyed the pie fights on the "Steve Allen Westinghouse" show. And they were pie fights.
And to the memory of the OP, if it did happen on his show, it was in his days in Dayton, or possibly in NYC when his ratings were going down the tubes.

Oh I'm sure, but I guess I've mentally resigned myself to the fact that these clips will never be seen again. Weird random stuff from my childhood... That's the stuff I want to see, even if it doesn't "work" on a fetish level. Like, this stupid syndicated gameshow "Truth Or Consequences" (the 80s reboot) had a stunt where some poor guy got dressed as a baker and had to search through an entire room of pies with his face to find the key (which, of course, was hidden in his apron, not any pies). They kept cutting back to it the entire show. Eventually I found a copy, and it was satisfying in a "I haven't seen this in 30 years" perspective.
I gotta think a lot of these clips we hunt for serve that function, more than providing actual fetish material. (Since the clips are by-and-large poor in terms of quality, coverage, and target by today's standards.)
The "I Love Lucy" show had lots of gunge scenes, I think mostly of Lucy getting into some kind of trouble and ending up covered in goop. I always thought somebody important on that show must have been one of us.
By chance does anyone recall a syndicated news magazine program from the late 70,s and early 80's called the World Of People? The show had a rising star journalist Sarah Edwards on it and there was a feature segment about a pie in the face service called pieogram. In the segment a very attractive brunette woman dressed in yellow has contacted the service and gets pied with great coverage. It takes her a few minutes to clear her eyes and looks amazing. She admits it was her dream to get pied and it happened at her job. I think Sarah Edwards also got pied on that same episode. I wish somebody could find that clip. I also recall PM Magazine did segments where female reporters got pied. I think seeing female reporters and news anchors getting pied is also memorable.

There was a semi repeat in the 90s.
I do remember a Blue Peter where they made pies, but it wasn't Valerie Singleton, it was Lesley Judd
I only remember this because for some reason, I can remember Lesley laughing after being pied and saying (something like) 'I've got shaving foam up my nose'

I remember that show. They had a large above-ground swimming pool with a beam across it, and one of the games people tried to walk across the beam while members of the other team on the side would swing punching bags to knock them off.
I also remember seeing commercials for, but never got to stay up late to see, The Cheap Show.
There's a very short clip on a WAMTEC VHS that Ic an't seem to find any more, that was set in the 50's. A rocker, who might have been Elvis or an impersonator was on stage, and a woman in vintage underwear gets pied. It was awesome. I'd love to know what it was.
My other favorite unknown clip was also on WAMTEC of Hurley VHS tapes. IT was from and 80's soap opera. Two women were at a costume party, and a brunette who was dressed as...I don't know, Cleopatra? A Gypsy? gets pied in the face. It wasn't the scene where a woman dressed as MArie Antoinette has her head in a "guillotine" and is getting pied.
