The amount of different substances that people get messy with is very varied, from mud/clay, gunge, slime or food. The latter being again varied in itself as could be sweet or savoury, to even slightly gross, like dog food. Each to there own. But what is the ultimate WAM substance, the top of the pile that the majority of people love to be covered in.
I'm starting some analysis in trying to find out. Not scientific in way, shape or form, but hopefully a bit of fun for everyone.
List your top 5 substances you like to get messy with, or mess someone with. I will compile, and get the top WAM substance.
As a starter here's mine: 1. Custard 2. Whipped Cream (normal and as pies) 3. Shaving Foam (normal and as pies) 4. Mash Potato 5. Porridge
I've always preferred to experiment with mixing things.
Slime/gunge mixed with custard Cake batter mixed with chocolate sauce Molasses mixed with whipped cream Porridge/Oatmeal mixed with slime/gunge or chocolate sauce Any other unusual combination of substances that turn out slippery or sticky and somewhat thick.

I like mud as well, but here it only appears for about a month as a local waterway dries up and then it's only accessible by kayak or canoe. So I kind of put it on the back burner.
1. Mud. There really is nothing else like fully clothed mud bathing. Been doing it ever since knew what turned-on was.
2. Golden syrup. The way it flows inside clothing, and at first from outside folk can't even tell its there, but for the recipient, the way it feels as it flows and tickles down. Lady Jasmine would probably count it as her No1.
3. Custard. The classic, probably the ultimate clothes-messing substance. Cold, wet, flows beautifully, abd very, very messy.
4. Gunge. Warm, wet, enveloping. And specifically made for messing yourself up with, so has a naughty element too.
5. Water. Never underestimate the pleasure of just getting soaked, fully dressed. Easier to do outdoors too, no-one really bats an eye at someone going into the water with clothes on, most of the time.
My next choice for having the girls pour over each other would be cream of tomato soup, however I've never actually played in that myself so not sure if it counts?
Warm porridge - Sensual and gloopy! Margarine - Perfect for knickerfilling and shampoos. Flour - The ideal thickener for the resulting mixed slop! Black treacle - Love the feel of that sticky black mask over the head Yukky bucket - Can't beat the excitement of making up a really revolting mess
1) shaving foam - quick and easy 2) custard 3) Carte D'Or Mousse Dessert Powder Mix. If you've not seen this, it's probably easiest to find on Amazon in the UK. Not sure about rest of the world. Available in lemon, mango, strawberry, chocolate, this is the caterer version of the instant whips and angel delights you get in supermarkets, so you can make an insane amount. 4) porridge/oats 5) gunge
Well the only thing I've tried are lotions and body creams.
My favorite to watch:
1. Mud / Clay - the MessyGirl mixture from Zoey engulfed in mud. 2. Gunge - A thick green gunge. 3. Nutella 4. Custard pie filling 5. Colored cake frosting
Mud needs a separate post because I could think of my top 5 favorite types of mud.
I tried to think of 5 activities any my 5 favorite substances to go along with it. They are:
1. Romping, wading, rolling, and dunking in mud. 2. Gunging or being slimed from being poured on the head. 3. Smearing sticky substances like peanut butter, marshmallow fluff, nutella, or icing. 4. Pied, thrown, smashed, or self pied. 5. Sitting on cakes.
The ultimate mess: sitting on a cake placed in the middle of a mud filled inflatable pool, while smearing nutella up with both hands, while being gunged on the head, while receiving thrown pies.
Mud is probably first, but we don't have good mud in Montana chocolate pudding chocolate cake batter chocolate syrup and any chocolate substance that Brattyshortkcakes is covered in.
There's quite a lot to this question, when you start to think about it. I think the perfect WAM substance needs to tick quite a few boxes. It's got to be visually impressive, so probably coloured, fairly opaque and quite viscous. But texture is also important, and on the whole I'd say that slippery and smooth is good, "bitty / gritty" or too sticky is bad. Then it's got to have a degree of "inappropriateness" - I think for most of us a significant part of the excitement of WAM comes from the fact that people "shouldn't" be getting themselves or their clothes covered with that substance. And that can be a bit in conflict with a final requirement, which is that it clearly needs to be safe, both in contact with skin and, quite probably, in "intimate areas", and reasonably easy to wash off.
So, putting all that together, and having, I think, at one time or another tried most of the obvious possibilities with my partner, my own top five would be:
1} Custard - visually ok (particularly chocolate), texture superb (very slippery), only safety concern might be causing yeast infections, but we've never had a problem, and easy cleanup (though the smell can linger).
2) Molasses - I was alerted to this through the forum after I complained that black treacle left us painfully stuck together! Visually it's great, texture surprisingly slippery provided you use enough, safety similar to custard (though it does sting eyes), and cleanup one of the easiest substances out there (melts away in hot water)
3) Paint - many substances are slightly disappointing visually in that they are easily wiped away, even accidentally. Paint solves this at a stroke - even thin smears are visually striking. Texture is a bit sticky, but not bad if you keep adding more to keep it liquid. Safety - "poster paints" sold for children are almost certainly entirely safe. I can't find anything on the ingredient lists of cheap emulsions that isn't a simple preservative such as is also used in makeup, and emulsion gives much denser coverage - I prefer it, but it's clearly not guaranteed safe for prolonged contact with skin. White washes off very easily, even from clothing. Colours can stain both clothes and skin.
4) Cake mix - preferably chocolate, visually good on skin at a fairly thick consistency. Hard to pour it over clothing like that, but could probably be made up runnier and still remain quite opaque. Does tend to rub off skin once the oils in it start to lubricate the skin. Texture - sticky in a very viscous sort of way, not unpleasant, but a different sensation to some of the thinner substances mentioned above. Seems perfectly safe, and cleanup surprisingly easy, even after I used it to "make a cake" in my wife's hair
5) Mud - mud seems very exciting, certainly falls well in the "forbidden" category, but is so variable it's hard to generalise. Visually it's usually ok, though thinnish clays in particular can wipe off easily. Texture - actually often slightly disappointing. Clay based muds are best, but even these are often not as slippery as I might have hoped, and other bases are often gritty. Safety - clearly fine if you make your own from nice inert clay powder, less certain of you mix up some topsoil from your garden or find a local estuary. Washoff is usually fairly easy, though, although the slightly "rotten vegetation" smell of some estuary mud can linger, but always brings back happy memories!!
Probably "too much information", sorry for the long read!
First, thank you for taking the time to reply and put down your favourite top 5 substances to get messy with. I know this is a very broad way of asking, as there are a number of factors that could come into it. But its just a bit of fun.
Anyway, from the replies so far (it may change as more replies arrive). Here are the results
The Top 5 substances we like to use are: 1. Custard 2. Mud 3. Porridge/ Oatmeal 4. Gunge 5. Batter
So at present custard takes the top spot as our favourite messy substances.
I've got a pie, and I know how the throw it.
Love you, too
