And yes, I realize it's the height of stupidity to devote this much editing time to a scene (and volume) that's basically a non-starter, sales-wise. But what can I say? When I come up with a funny idea, I like to see it through, even if only for my own amusement....
Wow. Majorly impressed with the creativity and singing. I didn't realize at first that the lyrics had changed.
It bums me out about your feelings on creativity/polish = poor sales. You have a nack for comedy and some serious technical skill. I do understand going with what the market demands. But I think sometimes the artist needs to do the occasional indie film for himself between the blockbusters, if you catch my meaning.
PieGirlKay said: Very funny Rich! Did you provide the vocals for the parody version of the song?
...and I'll say it again, those are NOT standard issue nursing uniforms!
Haha, yeah I recorded "new" vocals in about 20 minutes or so. Fortunately, YouTube still thinks it's the original song! :-S
In the full scene, both Dr. McSteamy and Dr. McCreamy ask Nurse Green to make sure she wears "appropriate" scrubs in the future. "Pretty sure that is NOT hygenic..."

Thanks! It's not really a hard/fast rule... I mean, I was just checking out the Kylie volume today (SS137) and I'd forgotten that the Star Wars script IS pretty funny, if I do say so myself. And of course the editing for the "finished" cut took a loooong time. Now, did it outsell Kylie's slingshot scene? Of course not. But I understand that most customers are looking for mess + skin first (not always in that order)... While "creative script" and "quality post/production" are probably at the VERY bottom of that list.
So that said, the Kylie Star Wars clip HAS sold well. Particularly the edit, which makes total sense. (The slingshot clip sold much better "unedited"... for obvious reasons, I would assume.)
And to be totally honest, that ORIGINAL Star Wars parody (with Liz) sold insanely well several years ago. A good example of creativity & polish = Sales. (Also, big boobs helped.)
So my comment wasn't a general statement, but more a specific comment that Nichole's scene (and really her entire volume) has basically been written off now due to the wig. So while the extra production value MIGHT get people interested again, I'm still guessing creativity + boobs + booty + skimpy nurse outfit < Bad wig.
Meathook and SS......with you on this. My fave part of doing my scenes is the creativity. And I particularly love the concept of my wam soap-opera The Messy Office.
But I have realised really really quickly that Joe Public is saying to me (in the wise words of Irene Handel) "Excuse me dearie..I think you are confusing me with someone who gives a fuck' so as Meathook says, I am balancing my indy work, with a blockbuster such as 3 Sexy schoolgirls examining each other's knickers and pieing each other. Unsurprisingly this has been my best seller yet. .
But I do think we have to follow our creative muse at least sometimes or what is the point? I haven't broken even on ANY scene yet, so the point can't be to make money or I sure am slow to take a fecking hint..so it must be to create something I can be proud of. And both of you do amazing scenes that show incredible creative talent, and that genuinely have made me laugh out loud...and I rarely do that for ANY comedy, that you must rightly be proud of.
The Star Wars parody from Meathook with the amazing Yoda puppet and voice, and this..I have never even seen the prog, but the song was great..and you sang it yourself too..brill . Both just wonderful..incredibly clever works.
and for my own part I am very pleased with my next Office Episode shot by me, which took a fair while in the edit, with a 'previously on the messy office' montage, but I am proud of it.
As Trotter says, sometimes sales aren't the only thing.
