Hey guys. I was recently dissatisfied with the quality of Gillette foam that I got the other day for a messy session. I had bought 6 cans, and it started off just ok, then got really wet quickly. So I'm asking you lot out there. What brand is currently your favourite and gives good quality as I've another session coming up and I don't wanna disappoint anyone.
Morrisons own brand is pretty good. Tescos was a bit poor, otherwise I have found Gillette to be OK, I used about 11 cans once in a pie session and I found that I got about 3/4 good sized pies from one can
I've also found that shaving foam in general seems to be of poorer quality. After leaving it out for a few minutes it just seems to dissolve. Maybe there has been a general formulation change in the industry?
Sainsbury's own brand fragrance free foam isn't too bad - its nice and thick, but doesn't seem to expand very much as you spray it. I seem to recall Morrisons own was good too.
As a general tip - if you submerge the cans in a basin of warm water for a few minutes before you use them, it does seem to help keep the foam fluffy (and sprays out the can faster too).
Shall have to remember that tip Foampie!! The nozzle on the Gillette cans is excellent though. But try very hard getting 2 1/2 measley looking pies out of it!! And as you know... I like my pies BIG!!!
I pretty much use Tesco own brand (white can) and Gillette (green/black) can for my pies. I rarely get more than 2 pies per can.
I also reckon the formulation has changed, I remember I used to get 3 good sized pies per can but now I don't get more than 2, sometimes if I'm using pie crusts or flan cases it's more like 1 can = 1.5 pies.
I'm glad it isn't just me then. Thought it was the cans I was using which were Gillette the green and black cans, not the lime fragrance, but yeah sloppy and too wet. I think I'm gonna have to do a testing session. But I hopefully am doing something Friday and didn't wanna be making pies that aren't worthy of it.
erasmic is pretty good if you can get hold of it,. its often very cheap and you can find it in "pound stretcher" type stores and is usually 400ml size cans so around 20 ish with half fill a standard uk bath tub
Asdas is slow, but seems to make bigger piles. Fancy nozzle on it, so that's probably why. Tescos is pretty bog standard, but half the price of gillette and more for your money.
But whatever brand you get, the golden rule to get as much out of each can as possible, is heat them up first. 15 minutes in hot water and Asda comes out a lot quicker but still as good. Tescos gets better and shoots out twice as fast as normal.
Just try it next time and you'll see the difference.

That might be it. You want the red and black or the lime ones - same foam. I think the one you mention might be Sensitive Skin type and not so good. Nothing better than the red and black Gillettes. Shake well then shake a bit more.
I've become quite the snob of shaving foam brands, although can't comment if they have changed the formula recently. I find that the expensive Gillette brands give a much firmer quality pie than the standard supermarket ones, and the value brands are really poor and sloppy in comparison. Price is four times more expensive though!
