So, I'm curious about a couple of things (which may or may have anything to do with Bambi and I in the immediate future). Specifically, I was wondering if anybody has experience with using and cleaning inflatable pools as part of their WAM setup. Cleanup is mainly what I'm wondering about, since it'd be inside. Should I maybe use a plastic drop cloth(s) on the inside of the pool and then throw those away, or should I just deflate the pool a little bit after our fun and drag it down the hall to the bathroom to clean it off in the shower? I suppose either would work, but I'm wondering how you guys do it.

Also, since we'll have a pool, we're looking to try something we've always wanted to use but didn't really have a means to clean up in the past - chocolate batter/slime! What I'm wondering is: What batter has a better consistency, cake batter or brownie batter? Is there a certain way to make batter for WAM purposes (eg, for thickness, good consistency, etc)? Also, exactly how many boxes should we make in order to fill a bucket full of the stuff? Bambi and I have been thinking of using brownie batter, but again, we haven't ever made batter for WAM, so we don't really know. :x I made a gif (of Natalia from Anglefan) to illustrate the consistency I'm after, if it helps.

I found that using plastic sheeting in the pool makes cleanup much easier. I would scoop the mess out with a pitcher then ball up the plastic and put it in a large trash bag. Tried just washing the pool out, but it was a struggle to get it out the door and cleaned up. Then getting the grass clippings off it when it dried was not fun nor easy. Luckily I have a back yard to wash it out in, because I don't think I could have gotten it clean in the shower.
Also make sure to get the widest plastic sheeting they have, because there is a lot of area to cover once you factor in the walls and overlap the top. Tape the plastic to the pool with duct tape so it stays put and contains the mess
As far as slime/brownie batter, I've used five boxes of cake mix and did not come close to filling a five gallon bucket. Recipe is simple, add warm (not hot) water until it's just a bit runnier than you are looking for. Cake mix will slightly thicken. Not sure about brownie batter, but I'm sure someone on here can answer better than I can.

That's super helpful, thanks for the advice on the pool! I kinda want to be lazy and not use any covering for the pool, but I also get the feeling doing that would be far more trouble than it's worth. I'll go to Home Depot and grab some plastic drop cloths with the biggest dimensions I can find. We're going to be shooting on the second floor most likely (since the bathroom is one door down), so getting the pool down the stairs and into the backyard...yeah that's not happening.

And wow, that's nuts. @_@ I was thinking 5 to 6 boxes of batter would possibly be enough to fill up one bucket's worth at least. Looks like it's time to break out the ol' Amazon Prime account and buy as many boxes of batter as I can fit in a single Prime Pantry box (I wonder if Prime Pantry is actually cheaper than buying batter in a store...). And thanks for the hot water tip. All I need to know is whether brownie or cake batter is the way to go. :3 I get the feeling it's more of a preference thing, maybe I'll end up having to make a bucket (or several!) of both. What a tragedy that would be~

If you use gunge that can be diluted and tipped down the drain then as long as you're close to a drain it should be possible to fill it up with a lot of gunge. Once your done you can dilute the gunge first before tipping it out. Also once it's watery you can use a hosepipe to drain it away.

You can buy a 5'x8'x2' inflatable pool on amazon for under $30. Use it, then roll it up with all the mess inside and throw it away. Works like a charm.

Alright, pro tip time:

For the slime, use white cake batter. Betty Crocker, Pillsbury, etc. It's about a buck at Wal-mart. Use the stove to heat up some water above what your regular hot water temp from your faucet will be, and your girl will thank you later. Things always tend to cool a bit too quickly when setting up.

For coloring, use the wilson cake decorating frosting dyes that you can purchase in small cylinders, which is concentrated A.F. dye that will make your colors pop way better than the drip colorings.

Plastic lining the in the pool is key. Get the 2mm stuff sold in the painting section at Wal-mart or the hardware store. 1mm or 0.7mm can be used to line the walls for splatter but won't hold up underneath you. Do not underestimate the weight of all the pie and slime stuff. The best option is to have a heavy duty 55 gallon contractor type trash bag, lift up the corners of the plastic drop cover, and just load it into the trash bag. Problem solved.

It seems that you already have the pies down, that's an understatement, lol.

Also, lighting is brilliant. Some cheap photography lights from Amazon can make all the difference for around $50. Finally, we can't wait to see the trouble you two cause! Please share and looking forward to it!!

We use a blow up pool with a open garbage bag on the bottom of the pool, then a plastic drop sheet taped to the sides of the pool. once we finish i dispose of most of the mess down the sink and then with the remainder just pull off the tape fold the sheet into the middle and straight into the garbage bag, then into another one if it splits then straight down to the common bin in the basement....

Have your pool and everything set up before you make your mess, for cake batter i used hot water from the tap, quick and easy with a mix master.

Make sure you have plenty of paper towel and a few towels in the floor to walk on to the bathroom.

Ok stand by for my fave way

My reason for doing it this way instead of lining with plastic is that plastic tends to be bloody annoying and sticks to your feet and any part of you covered in a sticky substance, it pulls off the pool and the pool ends up mucky anyway. Might as well make a night of it

Before you start playing, fill 3 x 10 litre buckets with boiling water and a little soap - any kind is fine but I like shower gel - you'll see why .

The reason for boiling water is so it stays warm while you play and no one has to run off still messy to get clean water to clean the pool

ooh also grab several microfibre cloths and a brush with stiff bristles like a dish brush and a spare towel - an old one you don't care about is best

Then after wam play use your hands or a dustpan and rubber squeegee (file off any sharp edges of the dustpan so you don't pierce the pool) to scoop up the remains of what you wammed with.

Have some plastic/sheets/towels set down outside the pool to put these buckets on to get them out the way - you'll deal with these once you are clean and dry

Now with most of the stuff out the pool and out the way, grab your buckets of clean water. it should still be pretty warm. Use one to clean yourself, one for your partner and one for the pool. It's fun to help each other you'll still need a proper shower after but this stops anything congealing and setting on you before you shower.

Now you have a pool with 30 litres clean ish water in it - scrub around with the brush getting stuff off the sides and bottom and then do the scooping thing again with the water. Dry it off with the cloths and towel - you'll want it completely dry and free of any muck before deflating and storing it otherwise it will go mouldy

now you can go shower and get dry and comfy and warm and then deal with the buckets. For me this means all the stuff down the loo half a bucket at a time and flush, repeat til its all gone, then i do the washing of the buckets in a bathtub literally with dish soap like a big crazy washing up bowl.

I have a video on my page for free about this. Just make sure to use the heavier thick plastic for bottom of pool. It stops the annoying cling Candy is talking about. You can still use the cheaper flimsy ones for walls and floor around outside of pool.

I'll make sure I get the thickest plastic drop cloths I can find - mess (especially mess as thick as ours) is ABSURDLY heavy, and I almost found that out the hard way during cleanup in the past when I once used a thinner cloth. Thank goodness I double bagged. @_@ I dunno if I'll be doing any colored slime this time around, but I'm still open to it. I'm certainly gonna make a couple buckets worth of chocolate cake batter tho. Arch, about how many boxes of cake mix does it take to fill a bucket? I'm going to assume a LOT.

Also I'm super happy Arch mentioned lighting: I've been so busy lately with moving and logistics this past week I had totally forgotten that I REALLY need some better lighting for shooting, especially since ALL of the footage shot in my house has that yellowish light in it. I'll see if I can find something on Amazon that'll reach me in time via Prime!

Wow, sounds like you pool wammers really have to go the extra distance with the cleanup!

As for the question about chocolate cake mix vs. brownie batter, I'd say there's no discernible difference. The thickness will be all about your water to batter ratio. Add a cup of hot water per box (I typically use 4-6 boxes), and also mix in eggs (1 egg per box of mix) just to ensure the mix will be smooth and will wash out of hair safely. One last thing- to achieve some degree of gloppiness- add in 'Old Fashioned Oats' (not oatmeal). Mix it all up, add more water or oats as needed, and you'll have some awesome chocolate batter/slime

Side note: I recently tried making my own cake mix using flour, sugar, milk, eggs & oats. My conclusion: it's not worth it. It's bit cheaper than the box mix, but the preparation was too much of a hassle with the measuring and results were mixed. Box mix is the way to go.

Infi- I'm mimic all the suggestions above but give our personal spin.
We did the same thing, bought an inflatable pool, something like 8'x4'x1'(?) and just put it in the garage! Didn't have to worry about getting things too dirty, used space heater to help the air temp. Most times I throw a tarp down under but only a little would get on it so I just wiped it off for reuse. A trail of towels to the shower kept it off the carpet in the house. After I would scoop the large glop into a bucket, but take the pool into the shower and hose it off good and let it dry in there half-inflated. Maybe it was more work than everyone else, but didn't seem that bad for us.
I would argue that unless you want to submerge in the stuff, getting gallons upon gallons might not get all used. 4 boxes of cake mix would be enough to get us covered, give us our fun and not be a huge mess to clean up, nor a huge cost.
When we wanted submerging we went out and found mud, free and no clean up!
I 'll offer the suggestion of mixing your stuff with a electric mixer, it helps kick in some air into the slop which seems to give more coverage. or at least the illusion.

Yeah dude. For a standard bucket, about 6 boxes fills it. These are the standard clean up style buckets, and not the big 5 gallon ones. Don't get the brownie mix, it makes it too thick and gloppy, the cake mix is smoother and more consistent in my experience. Come on now, you really do want to pile on the colored slime though, right?? haha!
