Hi UMD. Given some confusion on a couple of matters, I want to clarify some things a little bit.

Is it okay to ask where to find lost content? Yes, that's generally okay, as someone may know where it can be legally viewed or purchased. But asking to trade, or asking "does anybody have it" can be seen as an invitation to break copyright law, so please avoid that. This is the case regardless of the content's age, rarity, or whether the producer is deceased. Also please do not offer to sell your WAM stash, as in today's digital world it's questionable whether the original copies will be properly destroyed.

Can I promote a scene again if it's on a new site or store? Yes, but only once now. We support other platforms as well as consumer choice, so it's great to mention availability of your scenes elsewhere. But in the past few years, we've seen instances of scenes being rotated and shuffled among different sites, or multiple different edits created, and then promoted again. So I'm clarifying that you can still promote your scene one more time if it's become newly available in a different location, but after 2 times total please do not plug it again. [Edit: This means 2 max in the forum, and 2 max in What's New.]

I also want to assure everyone that if something of yours is flagged, or if we move one of your messages or something, it's not an indictment of you as a person! Don't take it so seriously. We are just trying to keep things consistent with the terms and mean no disrespect, and of course you can appeal any decision and you will be heard. Lately when some members get a flag, they react like I personally slapped their momma! If you feel a wrong decision was made, just contact me personally and we can talk it out.

if i put in in the umd, and then later, when i get to it.....(bc that is usually how it goes) if it is available on vidown, i know i am allowed to promote it on the home front...am i allowed to do a forum post for it?

i dont typically but i have done it once or twice i do believe. it actually generated sales again on BOTH ends. alas, i dont wanna break rules.

so would TWO times mean TWO forum posts? or TWO promotions total?

It would be two times allowed in each place, 4 times total.

Speaking of rules, what are the rules on tagging video downloads?

Most of the videos in the 'hardcore sex' category seem to not even have two people in them, let alone any sex!

The producers are just tagging them there to presumably spam that category in the hope of making more sales, which basically makes that category page useless.

To my mind, videos with masturbation, blowjobs, or lesbians, but no sex shouldn't be in there as there's a separate tag where people can find those. (arguably lesbian sex should be in there, but given the separate category that exists for it perhaps 'hardcore sex' is intended only for B/G penetration?)

Either way, there's loads in there that don't even go as far as nudity!

Ok, just to totally make sure I've got it clear:

Make a new scene, release it on the UMD == One "What's New" and one forum post.

Release that same scene on one other site like Vidown == One more "What's New" and one more forum post.

Release that same scene anywhere else after that, like C4S or wherever, no further plugging of it here, though, other than as footnotes in other releases.

So basically if you have multiple platforms, chose carefully which one you want to use your extra plug for, because you can only have the one extra plug per scene. Seems entirely fair and reasonable to me, nice balance between enabling people to have multiple platforms while not ending up with tides of spam.

I get MMs point but disagree. I promote old footage/shoots for several reasons. One, it's good enough to repromote. IE: The production values are high enough. Two, new customers don't know it exists unless they spend an hour trowling through the c4s store (being promoted) back to page whatever. Three, UMD members like seeing the pictures, gifs and trailers. The number of likes when I log on prove that point. (MM feel free to go in my account after a promotion and check.) Four, I enjoy airing the older shoots as I like to gauge people's reactions to the earlier play. Any producer worth their salt should have worked that one out. Five, the above works. I did an India promotion last week and a new customer purchased ALL the India material.

I understand the need for balance if I start throwing around pictures of Mel from 2015 every ten minutes users would be saying, please, new pictures, Andy!

I also try to rotate between older stock and newer stock. I do have new sets on the stores that I have yet to do a thread for on UMD. Sometimes I don't promote straight away - I may wait a couple of months - that's to see if the pitch on the store works. Is it written well enough to draw customers in?

I don't promote on other platforms, which is a business decision that I stand by. It will be interesting to see where this announcement and follow on conversation leads. I'm sure MM will digest my views and reply or amend his statement if he feels he needs to.

That's not really a category, but you can use that as a search term as you did here. UMD does a fuzzy search (not really the best), so anything with "hardcore" OR "sex" will come up. I don't believe anyone is spamming the tags on purpose, but sorry the page is useless to you. I do have it on my list to upgrade UMD's search capabilities.

I did just think of an exception: If you release something on 2 other sites, THEN bring it to your UMD store, UMD will still pop it into What's New, breaking its own rule Don't promote it again in the forum tho

The age of your footage is irrelevant, and you can plug a scene at any time if it's never been plugged on the forum. Like you said, new visitors probably don't know it exists, and of course we welcome your consistently great pictures and trailers and discussion!

But the forum is pretty chock full of ads now, and we can't let all producers just advertise the same stuff over and over, regardless of its quality. It's not just about you, but rather what would happen if all producers were allowed to re-promote everything. They are maybe not as prudent about it as you are.



It seems a lot of producers put all their advertising efforts into the forum, and almost nothing else. The forum was created for discussion primarily, and I allow ads there because like you said, they normally have pictures and samples that people enjoy. But forum plugs should not be your only marketing strategy.

I don't "promote" on other platforms. Could have been written as "sell" on other platforms. My mistake. The way I presented it MM was bound to misread it. I agree with his promotions tip don't rely on one forum board.

Ah thanks for the clarification, and for sticking with us! Still, I believe you should offer your content in more stores than just UMD, if you have the time to do that. The choice is good for consumers, and I believe multiple stores can exist symbiotically, reinforcing each other's sales.

In the modern age, we all really need to spread our wings and take advantage of the few social media platforms that allow our sort of content, namely Twitter and Reddit. Neither of those platforms require real names or other identifying info for either the reader or the poster and you can have multiple accounts for different purposes. We have been doing auto-posts of store updates there for more than a year and we are starting to get a lot of hits from them, especially Twitter. You can even post a link to your UMD promotional thread on your social media accounts if you want, which helps both your sales and the UMD in general.

Probably an unpopular opinion, but I don't believe any advertising should be allowed on this forum. I've been running a fetish forum since 1997 and any move towards allowing producers to advertise in the main discussion threads has always been met with less general participation.

I have a separate area where ads can exist, but the forum is pure.

We see next to zero actual discussions here since the unfortunate decision was made years back to allow 99.99% of the posts here to be "buy my video."

IHMO, it has cost forum in the way of new members participating. If you look at most of the posts here - it's an ad followed by 10 "old dogs" commenting.

i promote mine on twitter but it is a link guiding people to the umd or to vidown. the only reason i have not done reddit? is i have never been on there but "little eyes" gets on there and looks at memes all the time. i dont know how reddit filters or anything like that....but, we have already discussed him not getting on there anymore. those memes are NOT MEANT for little eyes! jesus christ!!!

Reddit is basically Usenet (from the olden days) with the ability to moderate and up/downvote posts and comments. There isn't much filtering besides voluntarily designating posts and subreddits as NSFW

Besides having any number of user accounts, you can also create and moderate your own subreddit, which is basically just a forum dedicated to a specific interest or topic. Ours is

Thanks for being here since day 1! I'm not sure how much bandwidth your forum sucks down or how you pay for it, but this is a very media-intense site that has actually found a way to pays its bills without resorting to annoying pop-up ads or selling its users' information. To me that's pure.

Having plugs on the forum allows users the choice of which "ads" they want to click on or ignore. Plus, we give all visitors the ability to block as many individuals as they want from the forum, so you don't even have to bother to avoid clicking them. Effectively, we let you block our own ads!

People have always enjoyed coming to site just for those plugs because they consistently deliver fresh freebie content from real wam producers. That said, it's a constant effort getting on the same page with the producers regarding what is too much, hence this thread and public discussion.

Plugs for content have been allowed in this forum since the beginning. It wasn't a sudden decision to allow models and producers to announce their stuff, though now there's lots more of it out there to promote! I remember us all dreaming of days like this. At the same time, you'll see that there is also just as much discussion as before. Don't let the ratio fool ya

I can find only one producer who fits your comment, and their promotional posts are at the rate of one per day, exactly in line with MM's criteria. No monopoly, just more clips to promote than others. If you're jealous, then produce more!!

I've had a look, and I can't see anyone doing multiple posts on the same day. The most prolific do tend to post one promo per forum per day for several days in a row, which is exactly in line with the rules. Of course if someone replies to a thread that bumps it back up to the top so if there are lots of replies it'll be seen a lot, but that's just how forums work. I just wish more people would reply to some of mine sometimes, some sink without trace with no replies, but c'est la vie.

Right, hang on a minute. Mike's answer to DM1 does have a VALID point. If a thread sinks without a trace because another producer or producers (in this case) are pounding the board with adverts every day. How does the smaller person/producer manage to get their product seen? They can't, it will slide back down the board into infinity.

For me, it's not too bad as I use another platform. But for people who soley rely on UMD as their advertising base. That's gonna cause them a problem. See my point?

Use the advertising system, that's what it's for and you can advertise the same scenes forever if you just keep the credits topped up.

It's always going to be a bit of an issue because it's mainly the free sample pics that keep people coming to visit. Much as I'm sure us regulars would like to think it's our sparkling wit and insightful comments that people come for, in reality it's to ogle and perhaps collect all the latest promo pics from the various producers. This of course is the eternal problem of promotion, we don't want to give away the money shots but we need to give away enough to really let people know that a scene is worth buying.

Sorry, don't want to get the wrong end of the stick, but are you talking about us?

I took the pepsi challenge and I could not find anyone towards the bottom of the page more than a day old. There are people with multiple topics on the first page, but they are active topics. I guess the solution here is to produce more content and hit the 2 a day rule. There were posts I hit before the bottom that were 3 days old.
