Hey UMD store shoppers. Just wanted to test something out. I've set all the old vids in iWam.com's store to "name your own price." So you can get them for $1.00, or $5.00, or $0.00, or whatever price you put. (Min checkout amount still applies tho.) If anyone decides to get try it out, please let me know how your experience was. This will be available to any interested producers sometime soon.
i would love to hear about this when you try it out! the logistics of it! do ppl pay more for length? mess? what do they feel your vid is worth? I always wonder when i price mine. so i have just stuck to "standard pricing" for now until i find another way i think things should go. great idea!

It'll be interesting. You still set the price of the download, but it's not enforced, merely suggested. And I'm collecting stats on how much they pay vs what you suggested. I'll be interesting to see what people do, especially when they have the option of free.
Any producer who would like to try it out too, please let me know....
Isn't it always the 2nd cheapest option with these types of things? The average person is too embarrassed to pay 0 so will go with the next arbitrary amount, usually $1.
Will be interesting to see how supportive the community is, or whether they all just want something for nothing.
Just to offer my opinion, for what it's worth, I would never really feel bad paying zero for a wam video if that is the option. Yeah, if there was a pay what you want coffee shop I would never go in, order something and pay zero dollars. I would feel like a dick doing that in person. When I have a half boner behind the anonymity of the internet and am going to purchase some bits, I could care less though.
I have absolutely no problem actually paying for WAM content and I spend a ton on it, but I don't feel the slightest bit of an obligation to pay someone more than the minimum they are asking for for WAM content. It could easily be that I'm more of an asshole than most people, but I suspect I'm in the majority (prove me wrong umders!) and producers should understand this before setting their expectation of an average price paid for a "pay what you want video". I don't think a producer who opts into this would have a right to complain about people choosing to pay zero.
Should be an interesting experience nevertheless, but not useful in my opinion for "value discovery" or determining a good price that people will pay for a video.
