I have posted on several threads here dealing with music and bands and am amazed at how many of us here on the UMD are actually very talented and play. I grew up with four brothers and each wanted to be George, Paul or John, no one wanted to be Ringo. There was ALWAYS a band at the house so people left their equipment there and I picked up the drums just to bond with them and that started my "career". I have played professionally in several bands in Michigan, Texas, and Denver, and even overseas when I was in the military.
A few weeks ago I posted a wetlook video of me in what I call my zebra dress or performing dress and many of you have asked about that. When I played, I always wore a dress and this was my favorite and most recent. I came across some band pics when I lost all my phone pics and had to replace them. So here it is, performing about 7 years ago one Hippie Night with some truly great people, along with that same dress soaking wet in my front yard.
Rock on my wet and messy friends! Stay positive and safe!
You tease! Almost. I see you but not quite. Hehehe As for musical instruments I got taught pianoforte (my parents had ideas above their station) but my passion was for keyboards and ye olde organs. The dream would be a top end Roland Atelier. P
But Ringo lived the happiest, and still does I would venture.
I dabbled in drums actually. My dad played growing up and he got me a kid set that I had until I had a house fire when I was like 13. Never kept up with it, and never got into a band. I kinda wish I did, as I understood drums.
I'm kinda tone deaf so I don't pick up on the differences in certain sounds (especially now that chemo ruined my hearing more). But drums, I could keep the beat goin on. Strangely enough I've been watching a lot of stuff on drummers lately. My favs/heroes are probably Bonzo, Danny Carey, Taylor Hawkins, and Roger Taylor.

I agree....and the nicest one too....because Paul the 2nd still has an enormous ego complex, John was the most cynical and political one with an Oedipus complex, and George was the mystical one who was the most aloof. Ringo was and still is the only one who is a happy go lucky and down to earth guy.
If you met all 4 at a bar, Ringo would be the only one you could have a beer with and he would chat with you. He knew he was not the best looking or the best singer or composer....he was the humble one who was content to be under rated for decades. Ironically, after decades of being under rated as a drummer, today if you look at all the sites that list "best drummer in history"...he is now rated pretty highly on most lists of best drummers. Granted he was not in the same league as Gene Krupa and Buddy Rich and Sammy Davis jr....but Ringo is still listed in the top 20. More recently some critics point to his more recent tours and complain because he rarely drums alone and now has a 2nd drummer on stage with him....but give the guy a break....he is 80 years old and arthritis makes it painful to drum for long periods.

I think this is because a lot of people are judging the scope of their contributions and creativity, rather than JUST their skill, and rightly so!
Dave Grohl of Nirvana/Foo Fighters is one of those men who has played with him side by side when they did the Ringo and Paul "Beatles" reunion a couple years back. And the entire time, he looked like a kid who had his dream come true!
Anyone who would give an 80 year old man shit for needing to play with another drummer to sound on point, is the same kind of asshole who thinks Rick Allen of Def Leppard is a "bad" drummer.
Also, speaking of Foo Fighters and The Beatles, here is a tidbit (and link) that a lot of people don't know. Paul actually played drums for them on this track, the one instrument I never knew him to play!
He was nice guy too. 2 inches shorter and very talented as well, minus the ego. His evolution was like the Star Trek and Star Wars movie series.....i.e. the first was good, but the 2nd was even better.
