Hello everyone, I am going to be conducting my ultimate wam session in August. The biggest one I've ever done, and I wanted to get everyone's opinion on using frozen pie crusts for pieing. The apartment I'll be living in won't come with an oven, university style apartment, so that means if I use frozen pie shells, I won't be able to bake them. Has anyone ever pied someone using frozen pie shells, and if so how successful was the pie upon being used? Thanks everyone for your advice!
I plan on using graham cracker crust pies, but I just wanted to see what the possibilities are for using the frozen crust pies before they are thawed out.
Because I won't be conducting my wam session until August when I'm completely alone. I was trying to figure out if anyone here had already tried hitting someone with a pie that had a frozen shell instead of a graham cracker or baked pie shell.
I mean, there's a lot of plausible deniability that goes along with freezing a pie tin. Believe it or not, some people actually bake pies in them! Freeze two, make a (real) pie in one and say that the other one shattered on you when you dropped it. No one will be the wiser.
Always remember that what you think looks suspicious generally isn't since most people don't know that a WAM fetish is a thing. Furthermore, even knowing that it is, I would never think a frozen pie tin is something someone would use.
I'm sure relax22 isn't talking about making crusts from scratch and freezing them -- he's talking about buying frozen pie crusts at the grocery and just saving time and effort by potentially not having to bake them.
I've definitely seen unbaked (but thawed) frozsen pie crusts used in some WAM videos before -- the only ones that specifically spring to mind for me at the moment are some of Ariel's early efforts. (I'm talking like 15 years or so ago.) In at least a few of those early WAMBabes videos I mentioned, these unbaked crusts look and act a much differently than baked pie crusts -- they don't tend to shatter into many pieces, but instead stay together and act as a kind of wet blanket that tends to fall off the face very quickly. Not very appealing in my book, but your mileage may vary. One thing they ARE good for is the old "pie hat," because in that case their ability to stick together actually offers a potential benefit (see proof in the pics below...).
Now if you were to actually used unbaked but still frozen crusts, they might actually act more like a baked pie crust. My guess is that they would tend to break apart a bit more like a baked crust. Just a guess though...
Thank you for understanding what I was trying to convey in the post. I was wondering about buying the unbaked pie crusts and freezing them before I pied myself with them. I just started asking myself "is it possible if I freeze an already unbaked frozen pie crust long enough, would it be possible for me to pick the pie crust with the filling and whipped cream inside it out of the pie pan and pie myself?" Let me know if you think that this result is possible in your opinion pieromaniac_too.

I would listen to this guy. A thin crust has a relatively enormous surface area compared to its volume. It will almost certainly thaw quickly, so the actual answer to your question is that you wouldn't be able to keep them frozen long enough for it to matter.
What do you hope to accomplish with the pie crust? What effect are you hoping to achieve? Perhaps there's a better way of going about this.

Unbaked pie crusts (except for the graham cracker kind, which I'm sure you're not talking about) are always kept in the freezer section at the grocery store anyway. If what n1rul1m says about them is true, though, they clearly must thaw out before you get them home and into your own freezer. Of course, they'll just re-freeze in your freezer once there.
I would think (but I'm only guessing) that you could take a frozen pie crust out of its tin and it would hold together decently well. But again, if n1rul1m is right about how fast they thaw out, it will prove almost impossible to put that plan into action, unless you're only dealing with a very small number of them and you can fill them very quickly and start slamming them into their intended locations almost immediately.
I don't know - it seems to be that using frozen crusts is asking for trouble...like giving the recipient a broken nose. Doesn't seem worth the cut corners.
An actual FROZEN pie crust will probably just stay in the tin. You can fill it with whatever but the effect would basically be similar to just using an empty pie tin. If it DID come out, it would just be in one giant piece that wouldn't stick.
If you're thawing it, 30 minutes to an hour should be fine. They you basically have soft dough. Again, it probably won't work well for coverage.
Baking a crust means you'll get the crust to actually stick to the filling, and break apart on impact when hit, similar to a normal premade crust. The advantage of baked crusts is that you can take them out of the tin and hold them in your hand, which is cool for throwing (the "explosion" effect) or a "smush" with no tin obscuring. A premade crust will fall apart when taken out of the tin.
I would go for baking as the other two seem pointless, but I suppose you can experiment and see what happens.
those crusts seriously will thaw so quick and honestly, there is no break up even when they are frozen.
the only way those are fun are if you bake them. get graham. you can find them on sale for cheaper than the bake ones...and those frozen ones, by the time you pour filling in them, will be like the pics above, like a wet blanket if they even come out of the tin. i dont think you will be pleased with the results at all.
now when you bake em, they can be AWESOME!!! I LOVE THEM!! but, since we have been doing graham a lot here lately we have stuck to them. we have been experimenting with different fillings with the graham.
i would not suggest what you are doing. jilly tried it once with a pie sitting video and although really cute, the pie crust was terrible. jilly didnt even want to leave the video up but i talked her into it bc besides the crust being suckish, it was really an adorable video. hopefully she will release it again in wamfuckers one day but, the crust was enough that jilly was extremely displeased.
look at walmart and they have crusts for a buck a piece if you look hard enough and start collecting now
Thank you everyone for your helpful advice. To give you all insight into my future situation, which will help clarify any ambiguity. I'll be going to my last year of law school staying on campus in a one bedroom apartment with only a stove top and no oven in August. Believe me if I had the ability I would bake the pie crusts, because I would be able to smash myself with the one kind of pie I've wanted for so long. However, because of overwhelming advice on this post pointing to the contrary of what I had intended, I've no choice but to keep to the standard ammunition being used, which is pre-made graham cracker crusts. SStuff and Jayce, thank you both so much for offering your helpful advice! You two are my wam idols with everything you've contributed to the wam community! I feel honored that you would take the time to help me out! Thanks again to everyone for helping me!
why couldn't you just bake the crusts in advance?...they only take about 10 minutes...i baked some a few months back and the girl had to cancel...so i kept them in my cupboard and got to use them 2 weeks ago...they almost worked better than the crusts i baked the night before...
Settngmoon, the reason why I can't bake them is because the amount of time it would take for me to do my dream wam session is only going to be available in August when I'm living in an apartment by myself. Also, please refer to the comment I made above your comment that says the apartment I'm going to be staying in does not come with an oven to bake the pie crusts.
And you can get it shipped to your door, free if you include it in a minimum purchase. Based on your dialect, I take it you're in the United States (you're calling your place an apartment, like the US dialect. Other dialects call them flats)
If you don't want to do that, these can be bought at a Dollar Tree. However, they only have free shipping site-to-store.
If there's one near you, you can have it shipped there. But you have> to plan ahead. Shipping takes on the order of 2 weeks. Also, if you purchase online, you can only purchase in multiples of 12. So if you want 60, you're set. If you want 65....
