Wow!!! This thread is bringing back so many old memories!!! Like several have said, I was also into getting messy long before I knew what it was. My first experience in the 90's was finding Messy Fun and that's when I realized I wasn't the only one that liked this "strange experience". I can remember when UMD first started up and I found it. It was like a whole new world was opening up for me!!
So many memories int thes thread!! Everything from old producers to old websites (Geocities made me laugh for some reason!) to dial-up to everything that has come since then!! I lurked for many years due to not being able to surf in private but finally made an account 12 years ago. I am on here almost every day since the beginning and I don't see that ever changing now!!

RIP Rob Blaine. Messy Fun is how I, too, learned I wasn't alone. Found his catalog of mail-order VHS tapes in a "catalog of catalogs" mostly offering bargain clothing, tools, and furniture.
<raises hand=""> Yup, I've been here for 24 years too. Special thanks to Rob Blaine, Neil (from Amateur Pies), Lenny Sorge, Messygirl, Chainsaw John, Ariel, and Mess Master for posting so many grainy lo-res video clips in the early days: 20-30 sec to load one jpeg, 3-5 min to download one 30 sec video clip. Thanks to Shokolada for the pre-UMD messy collective and to all you crazy fuckers on the old usenet dbb's</raises>
Looks like my account's one of the 24-year ones. I don't post much but rest assured I still visit regularly! Occasionally I find one of my holy grails, videos available way back then when I didn't have access to a credit card.

3-5minutes? That sounds like good going. Until I got broadband in about 2004 clips of even a few seconds would take several hours.
lol, I remember the UMD being a bit more combative (if that is the right word) back in the day. This is a very nice and welcoming forum now, but it used to be a bit more rough. Maybe that is why I held off posting until recently (I also had a lot less privacy then). I recall some "feuds" between various posters. Chainsaw John was a bit of a polarizing figure.
The time when Chainsaw John posted a pic of his penis (I think in the context of bragging about a conquest with one of the female UMD posters??) and that immediately became a meme to be "dropped" into any and every thread, at random....??
Still the funniest thing to ever happen on this forum.
What I do recall is that I was so new at this, I effed it up my first post and uploaded a bunch of "x's" as the images didn't load and someone responded something to the effect of "nice x's, asshole". Riot. First posts were of Mrs. Bee (before she donned the persona) in the shower with the standard issue taped-up garbage bags behind. I think we avoided the white plastic chair, but just barely.

It was extremely combative until relatively recently. Woe betide anyone who posted anything out of turn or not up to scratch.
I clearly remember a post about 18 years ago entitled "Do you masturbate to WAM?". Sounds ridiculous but despite the often blunt comments and frankly cruel exchanges and put downs, talking about being turned on by the content was alluded to but rarely ever mentioned directly.

We should totally find that pic and start doing that again.

For those of us who like to dress up for our WAM (even though we're 'straight' in all other respects), it was very difficult indeed. There were some horribly 'vocal' folks who would shout you down at any opportunity, suggesting that only they had the right to post things and that only real women should be shown. We were placed in a little ghetto away from the main areas. (I got the impression that if gas chambers had been available, we'd have been the first into them.)
The irony was that if any male anatomy happened to get into a shot, they were the ones who would run, screaming like queens, from the room, akin to vacuous teenage girls. It made you wonder how they coped with 'normal' porn, where such things are commonplace.
It was certainly very strange behaviour until you realised that they were the ones who were so insecure that they couldn't cope with anything that didn't fit their idea of what should and shouldn't be available, yet were (by far) shouting the loudest. That's why so many of us took refuge at Wamdrogyny and Bill Shipton's Splosh UK forum, where everyone was welcomed equally.
Fortunately, things seem to be much better these days.

Out of interest, how did you find this out? Is there a button that tells you are are you clicking on everyone's profile and using excel for what it was always designed for?
Ah good old dial-up. Saved me the trauma of CSJ's junk as my computer wouldn't load up the pictures very quickly. I also remember often clicking on links, then having to format the computer after I got sent to another dodgy site uploading lots of spamware. Back then it only took about 20 mins to reinstall windows.
Interesting that this is by far my most used site as I'm asexual and have low libido! Must be the people. xx.
Count me in the "profile says 12 years, but been on this site since the beginning" camp! Before that in the mid-90s I remember finding the Wamtec site, MessyFun, Shokolada's Mess. Every .gif, .jpeg and .bmp was a revelation to a teenage wammer! Stories were much more important to me back then (Shokolada being very important on this one). Obviously they're still an important part of WAM, but back then, with so few pics and videos, I thrilled to each unfolding paragraph (even in unformatted Courier in .TXT files!).
The gradual growth of UMD was really a miracle for the development of this kink, just in terms of being a clearinghouse for so much content. Hard to imagine that we'd have anything remotely like the quality and quantity of WAM photos and videos we have now if not for this space. (Just go check any of the general sex/kink clip sale sites and go to their messy categories (if they even have them!)) You'll find some stuff.... maybe even some good stuff.... but it's not even remotely comparable to what shows up here on a daily basis. And the community aspect... amazing.

Likewise, I met Rob on Compuserve in 95 and he said the most common thing anyone said was "so I'm not alone?" Realising I wasn't the only person on the planet who hot turned on watching fully clothed women get soaked or messy really changed the world for me.
And LOL at all the Chainsaw John memories, didn't he have the penis pic as his avatar at one point, or was that someone else? And yes, I remember the "combatative" days too. Woe betide anyone who posted anything someone else didn't like, all hell and then some would break loose. MM's tireless work has really turned things round. So adding to the chorus of thanks.
I'm one of the original members of the UMD and have been coming here every week since it started. I was into seeing women pied long before the UMD (or even the internet) existed, and actually, I wouldn't want anything to change that.
My profile says 24 years, but I definitely remember signing up in 2003 or 2004 (I recall being in my college dorm room at the time). I lurked before that though.

That's exactly what it was like. The Splosh! Forum was a lot more friendly at that time and welcomed the more unconventional.
Messmaster was always a groovy guy, don't get me wrong, but the board itself was dominated for a time by a small number of frequently very aggressive self-appointed arbiters of 'taste'. I don't think Derek ever wanted heavy moderation but latterly, as UMDs content broadened, he recognised it was time to crack down on bullies.

Yes - MM has done a fine job at keeping everything going. The loss of the likes of Rob Blaine and Bill Shipton should be a lesson to us all regarding what happens after we've gone. Without Derek at the helm, I wonder how the WAM community would stay together? We never know when we're going to fall under the proverbial bus!
I should just warn that scammers managed to grab the original Splosh website (splosh dot co dot uk - I don't want to make it a clickable link!) the day the registration expired and before we (DungeonMasterOne, MikeNoMic, MuckyPup and me) could re-register it to protect it. There is a false name and address of 'Lara Price' on the front page and much of Bill's material is still on the site, along with fake pages purporting to sell Bill's material. They're presumably working on the premise that anyone caught out by this and losing money would be too embarrassed to report it.
Last time I looked (carefully!), I managed to trace the scammers through another of their websites using what looked like (but wasn't) a legitimate company (can't remember what it was now - something like an estate agent, I think) and eventually to an address in Australia where the trail went cold as the (physical) address of that website's owner had just been sold.
However, we did manage to rescue the Splosh forum pages, which are still extant with a slightly modified URL (the addition of UK after the word Splosh) at http://www.sploshuk.co.uk/forum/ as MuckyPup had been administering that separately for Bill, so was able to just move it over to its new home. It doesn't really get any traffic these days without Bill there to 'keep the wheel spinning' but remains for historical reference. The hope had been to keep it going but there was such a long delay while Bill's parents were dealing with the estate and then further delays with them after that, that it had effectively already stopped and would have required vast amounts of work to resurrect. (Not much point without Bill and with UMD here.)
I have been around for longer than 24 years. Before I was known as Vlad. But as this was my online handle elsewhere I changed it to what it is now. When did I change it? I changed it when M.M. did an upgrade about 24 years ago, remember? When he did, everyone had to make a new account. When that happened I used it as an opportunity to change my handle as did a few others. It was a growing pain thing of the site and 24 years ago migrating to new platforms wasn't easy.
I don't post often, but I used to hang out in the chat room back in the day. The site has changed a lot. It was more aggressive back in they day. I am glad its more welcoming now.
The one thing I would like to see is an area for resources. Like how to make gunge tanks and plans for them. Things like that. I am sure many of us have created messy devices.
I started lurking in 2002 when a high school friend showed me UMD, from there she really got me into this place. She's no longer here I can see plus we haven't talked in many years now.
Wasn't until recent years I chose to stop being a lurker and come on with an account, and very glad I did.

I remember following MM over here when he started it after WallowWorld went (underage) teats up and he wanted to do better than that clusterfuck that went down.
I think I can safely say he succeeded at this point. And yeah; I'm old. 57. It's not the age; it's the mileage. On the bright side, I now can check off all three boxes:
