and 5 lbs of kaolin powder...

anyway, i need to make an indoor mud deal kinda like this pictured like messygirls set up.
I may not need as much...and I may do a different color. idk. this color is cool too

I have done indoor mud stuff but I have gotten clay slip from blick which is expensive and sometimes can be a little more runny than I would like.

does anyone know how much I would need to make a set up like this? and what clay would work best? so its soft but not runny...and how would I make it? I have a ton of mud outside my house that is red dover clay which I will probably add to it...but I wanted to get some purchased clay as well.

i just found some morrocon ( i cant spell) clay powder on bulk apothecary and its like 89 bucks per 5 lbs. it doesnt tell how to mix...and I dont know how many pounds of actual powder I would need or if i need to get this in bricks like I have before....hmmm....

That sounds way too expensive. I usually buy Kaolin or red art clay around 15-20$cad for a 50lbs bag. I think the mix we see in this picture is probably a mix of those two clays. Not sure the proportions as it looks more thick and maybe has a larger red art proportion than the other outdoor mud pool MG or Phil are using. I have the same pool as in this picture. To have it fill at that depth with clay the consistency MG has in their outdoor mud pool my guess would be around 2x50lbs bags of clay. To have it thick like in the picture you are sharing.. my guestimate is more around 3x50lbs bags (kaolin +2red art).
I think with the amount of clay you have on hand you can probably mix it on one bucket and apply it by hand, but quite short to fill a pool with 3-4in of thick clay.

** you have 10lbs of Bentonite.. this volume will go 5x-10x its volume if you soak it over a day.. however texture is more runny and wont have that smooth MG feeling.

Hi ma'am,
I use bulk red and plain bentonite powder (I can send you the link if you are interested) that comes in 25lb bags. Typically I make the clay in 5 gallon buckets, filling the bucket 3/4 full with water, and then adding the bentonite clay powder as I mix it all with a power drill & mixing bit. I get roughly 75lbs of THICK clay out of a 25lb bag of powder.

To fill the GLAM ring, which is roughly 7' x 7' (with an approx 3" mud depth for shoots), I use 9 full buckets. At roughly 40lbs per bucket x 9 = 360lbs of clay. pics below. I hope that helps.

We have used various types of mud/clay over the years. The latest version was actually clay blocks that were cut into smaller bits and thrown into the inflatable mat. I added water and had the first girls to shoot in it mix it with their feet, and when it was soft enough, they got into it with their bodies. This mixed it well, and then the following shoots the mud got mixed even more. We got about 6 or 7 shoots out of it. I stored the mud in large containers and added bleach to kill any bacteria growth. I'll add more clay bits to mix into it to make up for the clay that went down the drain from it collecting on the girls.

how many clay blocks did you use? and did you soak them in water first before putting them in? did you use any kaolin or bentonite? or just the red clay blocks? bc i will have to store it as well, afterwards. we have a mud spot being built this year about 2 hours away...so? when im not searching for mud or dont have someone with me to do so (after the robbery last year) I have purchased a large tent for out back at my house to do mud in whenever I want! Which will be fun. If the weather gets better before we shoot on the 12th? we will probably set up the back yard deal in the tent to shoot in. So i dont have mud on my ceilings...since? I still have mud on my walls and ceilings of my garage from wrestling and stuff in some more watery-but very coating mud we did years ago...I loved that mud but? It was very splashy! I could use it outdoors. I do like to be able to dive into it...I think I spent like 400 dollars on the mud but? It was bc I had a friend bring it and didnt have to pay shipping. the shipping was insane!
and? I would want more of this stuff if I used it. It is actually from a place here in kentucky. It came in bags inside of boxes and you just dumped it into the pool and it looked exactly the same! Pretty cool stuff. I would have to check pricing on it again...but it would be fun to use this again but a lot more. maybe with some clay blocks in it too. or clay blocks with a little bit of this! The coverage was awesome! The white stuff was a white clay they sent me for free so? I tried it out poured over me once I was coated. It looked so rad with the swirls of clay!

I would add C&C Ball clay. It will make your red clay more clingy and spreadable with great texture. It's less expensive also.
