I'll throw in an actual answer, a good top will regularly communicate with their bottom. Ask how they're doing, what color are they if you do the red/yellow/green system, it you're working them up to a number what level are they, stuff like that.
Even as a top you'll sometimes need a second, like if you're doing impact and get asked for an 8/10. It'll take a while to get them there and some people's 8s can be pretty tiring to get them to.
