The cost of food overall has rocketed exponentially since the all time lows of the mid 1990s (remember Asda's 1p baked beans?) Unless you can access a catering supplier via a large buying account, the supermarkets are definitely the cheapest.
Incidentally, I get those 7.5kilo cans of Lyle's black treacle from Amazon Prime of all places - £12. That quantity anywhere else is pushing £30-40!
When you say large quantities how much are you talking ?
I have around 700kg of Carboxy Methyl cellulose gunge to clear. I can do you a good silly price on 25kg sacks if you want to collect. Its not as easy to mix as HEC / Natrosol but does mix with an electric mixer. Alternatively I have Xanthan Gum Gunge on ebay at £4.99 per KG
GungeLover123 said: Preferable custard, gunge, or similar, what is the cheapest way/place to acquire large quantities of mess (In the UK)?
Custard: buy the large tins of custard powder and use boiling water to mix, then cold to thicken. You can get about 2/3 of a bucket from 1 tin and they only cost about £1.
Gunge: I would use messy supplies as they have lots of different types to choose from. They also do discounts on large quantities of some things. There are a few ebay stores that sell them, prices are about the same though.
omg.....all i can say on this thread is that HOLY SHIT...i am filling this tub for the mystery substance and i have already spent HUNDREDS AND HUNDREDS of dollars and now, i am seeing that i have to order EVEN MORE SHIT!! OMG!!! i even had someone donate a little over 100 bucks and someone donate a big bag of batter....AND I AM STILL SHORT!!
and OMGOSH, THE BLACK TREACLE!! i have been wanting the lyles in bulk forever and the price is CRAZY!!
honest to goodness, the best way to get large amounts of stuff....um....save up?? lol. its hard either way you go! i have tried to buy cake batter in bulk and its more expensive than buying the small boxes...but you have to collect them when they are available. best thign to do? get your deals when you can and save up supplies for a big wam session! i wish i had been saving up when i found deals a few years ago for this venture. but, messy supplies has some really easy to make gunge that makes a lot PER bag. it makes a pretty substantial amount of mess. cake batter is also a cheap way to make a lot, you can buy it in bulk from the us...just dont rush order it and you can get it for cheap.
Whichever is least "value" added will be cheapest. Buy ingredients rather than ready-made or ready-mixed whatever. Custard powder and a couple of hours in the kitchen. Other than that it is pretty similar cost:- 30 cans of shaving foam, 200 cans of beans, 2kg of natrasol, 20kg of flour = £30 to £50 regardless

2kg Xantham for less than a tenner makes around 140 litres of gunge. For Bulk, as said I've a huge quantity of Carboxy Methyl Cellulose to clear, 25kg sacks make well over 1000 litres if Gunge 123 is really looking for bulk. Collected price is just £100 / 25kg sack.
