I sent picture of the 'Grass Chopper' to several of my friends and family-members from my age-bracket and disposition (aka. my brother and cousins).
As a, reasonably minor, joke I captioned it; 'Gas, Grass, or More Grass! Nobody Rides For Free!!!' as an omage to the 'Gas, Grass, or Ass...' slogan.
Someone forwarded it to my father and my mom also saw the message. My mom then looked up the conventional slogan and just called me to tell me how 'horrible' I am for referring to a slogan that is; "so demeaning to women"...
Old jokes are often the worst as we live in more enlightened times. I shudder at the 'jokes' I use to tell as a kid in the 70's.
It is a joke, but it is also demeaning. Wrapping something up in humour does not take away from the message.
Yes, most people will see it as such, but you can't disregard those who feel belittled by it, especially when they have been downtrodden all their lives and don't want to see a return to that.
