Here in Canada, the price of even basic groceries has become unbearable. Christ, I was shopping the other day, and a large jar of Kraft peanut butter was $15. I can't even imagine buying food for wamming purposes right now!
I make my own stuff. Cake batter, pudding (though chocolate has dropped significantly), pie crusts made from baked tortillas and recycled tins, it all takes a big bite out of the price. Also teaming up with a second person helps a lot.
I still do the same scale of messy sessions....but possibly slightly less often. I but foods stuff regularly when I go shopping and keep it all aside for a session. Some of the food may well go off but if its used for wamming then it doesn't really matter. The gross smells actually add to the experience
Between inflation and AirBnB becoming what it did, it very much has. I used to meet up with one of the girls in my albums to shoot a video for me in an Airbnb where it was private. Between paying her for her time, paying for the inflated AirBnB cost ($250 to book plus a ridiculous $200 cleaning fee), and paying for all the supplies, it just isn't viable anymore.
I don't like getting messy myself, so it hasn't changed anything there, but it's definitely pushed me to buy videos from producers more or commission a video online rather than shoot one in person, which is always more fun.
It has definitely effected us. Just the general increase in the cost of living has left us with fewer dollars in the "fun jar." And when we do splosh, supplies have just gotten a lot pricier. I am noticing a lack of generic alternatives where we live. Walmart used to sell their own ready to bake pie crusts, now they only have a name brand pie crust for 3 times the price...

Dollar Tree has crusts more often than anywhere else I've seen. They're 1.25 each now because everything else has gone up too
I kinda just stopped getting messy solo at home just due to the fact I don't live alone anymore. I have my own bathtub so there's nothing stopping me I guess, and I've always resorted to buying things that are cheep even in bulk (shaving cream for days). But inflation has certainly been on the mind when it comes to how I spend my money on things for fun and I've come to the point where I would rather put my "for fun" budget towards things like movies, records, and games that I can enjoy over and over again rather than a single messy night.
Of course, me finally trying the whole mud/quicksand/sinking thing for the first time last summer helped me realize there's ways to get plenty messy FOR FREE if you know the right places to go to. The mud and quicksand side of the WAM community have a bit of an unfair buff in that they typically don't need to spend a dime! Well... except for the cost of gasoline.
All this cake, there must be a princess somewhere.
