My wife and I have three kids (oldest is 8 and youngest is 3) and it's already getting tougher and tougher to plan, prep, and execute a big messy session.
For any other parents out there, how much harder does it get as they get older and more inquisitive and start snooping more? Anyone been found out? Or worse- caught in the act? I'm really dreading the steps I feel like I'm going to have to take to keep this under wraps.
I rented a whole extra house just for wam for a few years when my daughters school hours became less predictable in 6th form
Never got caught, I got very good at fast prep and thorough clean up
I have a guide to hotel wam on my spotless sploshing website (listed in my sites below) which might be an easier way. You just need a massive wheelie suitcase, all your kit and that guide. And a babysitter!
Not that many options.. either you have then babysit and you go for a special night that includes hotel and you have your fun there. Or if you want to have a larger session that requires doing it at home you would have to send the kids to your relatives for a night..
My kid is moving out to college next summer.. so might setup a more permanent wam room .. so gotta be careful till you reach that milestone
I don't have any advice because I don't have kids, but made me think of a genuine question- do any of you guys get turned on/have to hide getting turned on when you're in a situation in public that involves getting wet fully clothed? Like say- a water ride at a theme park?
This post also gave me a totally new fantasy- my wife being in a floor length maxi dress at our theoretical kids graduation cookout at our backyard pool and bear hugging her and jumping on the pool with her.
First time I ever got messy, I put the kids to sleep, waited for 20 mins or so to make sure they were down, got myself all ready in the bath, poured one jug over myself and then heard my daughter at the door "I need the toilet" AHHHH!! Quickly got changed, wiped my head with a towel, hid all the shenanigans behind the shower curtain, sorted her out and back to bed and then returned to put my half gunged clothes back on to carry on.
Haven't been caught in the act, and have been able to pass off the cupboard full of desserts as just some stores. I don't think the children have suspected anything. Ironically, if they actually suspected the truth there's no way they'd risk mentioning it, the danger comes from the innocent question!
Probably the biggest challenge has been opportunity. Neither of us feel comfortable setting up even a very minor session in the evening, knowing there's at least a theoretical chance that a teenager might walk in on us. Luckily we've been able to arrange to have a weekday morning off work together, at least some weeks, and that gives a fun opportunity together, with the added bonus compared to the evenings that we're both wide awake too!

No lie, I have considered this. We live in Orlando so it's a very touristy city. Strongly considering talking my wife into buying a property that we can rent out, but also use it as our own getaway for stuff like this.

I buy pudding by the case (6 large cans in a case), and keep them in our closet in the box. Might be easier to explain the pudding cups in my nightstand as easy late night snacking. But the giant cans of pudding? Not so easy.

Absolutely do it if you can afford it. It's so nice to have somewhere to just leave all your kit and substances etc
I did just fine when school hours were regular, but I only had one. With 3 of them your chances of needing to go and bring one of them home because they got ill etc is well... three times as likely.
Or, use a combination of booking a hotel in the daytime while they are at school, then if you get called out one of you can stay behind at the hotel to clean up and take your time rather than frantically cleaning your own house.
You'll need to book 2 nights so one of you can go and prepare and the other joins you once the coast is clear
Otherwise you have to wait for a midday to 2pm check in time and the day is already gone. Saves needing a sitter though.
Well we, the wife and I had gave up on the Wam sessions . So I took up my old hobby of model railways . Then the wife left , so no Wam and the model railway went to.
My wife isn't into wam like I am, but when we have done small sessions, it's been with the bedroom/ bathroom door locked.
Two other times when we've played in the mud pit, a few months ago, there was nothing sexual about it. It was just tug of war and muddying each other up. Even our youngest daughter who is sixteen came out and played in the mud with us.
I think discretion is key if you want that alone time with each other.
I'm a single parent of a 6 and 4 year old so it can be a bit of a challenge. Sure there's a 50lb bag of cake flour in the pantry but they know I cook a lot. I need to containerize more flour/sugar batches of cake batter (making the giant bag less giant) but that's just me being lazy. They go visit their mother and grandma on weekends so that's a nice big block of fun time that's always available.
Gunge tank I'm working on looks fairly innocent in the garage since it breaks down into smaller subassemblies. The bunch of 5 gallon buckets and paddle mixer for the drill aren't sus either since they're used for all sorts of other tasks from washing the car to making thinset (I enjoy stone and tile work).
There are lots of other things in my closet that would make me sus but that room is beyond the bedroom and bathroom doors. That's something I'm sure there will be a long conversation about when they're much bigger.

Beware the surprise weekend visit home.
True, intent is to use a spare storage room downstairs that has a drain and water fausset. I will add a lock on that door and pretend its random boxes behind it.. I think it will be pretty safe from noisy visitors..
Pretty much all of the photos on my profile come from sessions we've done with the kids between the ages of 6/7 and 17/18.
There are some advantages that come with older kids. The major one being that they're way more independent and don't need constant monitoring in the same way toddlers or babies do. They're attention spans are longer so if they're playing video games or watching a tv or a movie they're way more likely to stay there for an extended period of time. In fact, they're unlikely to want to disturb mom and dad because if they do there's a risk they'll be told they have to get off the Xbox and do some chores/homework or go to bed!
Teenagers also like to spend most of their time in their room, particularly if they have a phone and/or games to enjoy their personal space. The one place they absolutely don't want to go if they can help it is into their parents bedroom.
So everything we would use is in our closet. We have a bathroom attached to our bedroom so that's really helpful, but we made it work in the apartment we used to live in as well. Just needed a little more creativity.
One thing we definitely did was switch from food based mess to pies and slosh primarily made from shaving foam with food coloring to add variety. Poster paints work as well. You can get really messy, really quickly and the clean up is really quick. Just turn the shower on and wash as normal. Then when she's clean she can go out and distract the kids or resolve any conflicts while I clean up what's all over the bathroom.
